Reversible enzyme inhibition-based biosensors: Applications and analytical improvement through diagnostic inhibition
Oxygen concentration, nitrogenase activity and heterocyst frequency in the leaf cavities of Azolla filiculoides Lam
Oxygen concentration within the leaf cavities from the apex to the base of Azolla filiculoides Lam. was measured by an oxygen microprobe. The oxygen values in the leaf cavities were lower than in the aerated water and were within the range 0.157–0.183 atm. At 140 μE m−2 s−1 irradiance, oxygen decreased in the leaf cavities where acetylene reduction activity and heterocyst frequency were highest. Oxygen evolution and oxygen consumption inhibition by KCN strongly suggest that oxygen concentration changes, in the leaf cavities, are due to both photosynthesis of Azolla and Anabaena and to respiration of the whole system
An L-lactate sensor with immobilized enzyme for use in in vivo studies with an endocrine artificial pancreas
We report the features of a sensor for determining L-lactate. An oxygen sensor, coupled to a nylon net with chemically bound L-lactate oxidase (EC 1.1.3.2), is inserted into an artificial pancreas (Biostator, Miles) "downstream" from the glucose sensor. We used the sensor to continuously monitor the L-lactate concentration in blood after a "glucose clamp" experiment with a diabetic patient. L-Lactate determinations in blood drawn from the patient every 15 min agreed well with results obtained by use of the L-lactate sensor
