Painter Filippo Naldi (II)
Ovom prigodom pripisuje mu se sedam slika u crkvama Dalmatinske zagore i u Poljicima (Zavojane kraj Vrgorca, Dobranje kraj Imotskoga, Kostanje u Poljicima, Čaporice kraj Trilja i Franjevački samostan u Sinju). Autor analizira odlike
Naldijeva slikarstva i njegovo značenje u dalmatinskoj umjetnosti i društvu 18. stoljeća.According to his own testimony, the painter Filippo Naldi was of Florentine origin. He lived and worked in Dalmatia in the mid-eighteenth century while serving in the Venetian army. He was mentioned in records as a port manager at Opuzen. In the wider Dalmatian area, Naldi painted a large number of religious works and several portraits. This paper attributes to him seven paintings in churches situated in the Dalmatian hinterland and the region of Poljica (at Zavojane near Vrgorac, Dobranje near Imotski, Kostanje at Poljica, Čaporice near Trilj and in the Franciscan monastery at Sinj). The author analyzes the characteristics of Naldi’s painting and his significance in eighteenth-century Dalmatian art and society
Andrea Ferrucci a Pistoia. Una cornice per il "Crocifisso" di Giovanni Pisano in Santa Maria a Ripalta, poi in Sant’Andrea
This article discusses the marble tabernacle made to contain a wooden Crucifix by Giovanni Pisano, originally in the church of Santa Maria in Ripalta in Pistoia and now in Sant’Andrea. The richly-crafted Carrara marble frame, overlooked by scholarship, is studied as regards both style and typology and is here presented as an important work by Andrea Ferrucci during his period of activity in Pistoia, between 1497 and 1499. The author traces the complex and occasionally tumultuous vicissitudes of the venerated Crucifix and its tabernacle through its liturgical use and displacement, reflecting on the significant and close relationship between the work of art, devotion and history of taste. The lively religious and social dynamics of the city of Pistoia between mediaeval and modern times offer a context for how theory and practice have shaped twentieth-century conservation in Sant’Andrea, resulting in the current placement of the Crucifix and its marble frame
Two notes on Piero Sraffa and Antonio Gramsci
The relationship between Piero Sraffa andAntonioGramsciwas complex anddeep and included involvement in the activity of the Italian Communist Party. This note is focused on two particular aspects of Sraffa's activity aimed at helping Gramsci during the years of the latter's detention. First, it considers the way Sraffa was involved in the structure of the Italian Communist Party at the time when he volunteered to cooperate in its efforts in support of Gramsci. Second, it considers a particular episode, which offers aninsight into the relationship that Sraffa hadwith foreign-basedmembers of that party and suggests hemay either have had a role in the management of the party's funds or could have had ready access to information concerning those funds. © The Author 2011. An Agent Based Model on scale-free networks for Personal Finance Decisions
Personal finance decisions emerge from a complex
network of human connections, where the nodes or agents —
banks, investors, financial advisors — take their choices on the
basis of a variety of factors. All these agents form a society,
which we modeled as an Agent-Based Model (ABM) on a scalefree
network. In this paper, we will consider: honest agents,
regular agents, insincere agents, stubborn agents and skilled (or
unskilled) agents. Honest agents report truthfully their opinion
while insincere agents state an opinion which is different from
their internal belief. Regular agents are characterized by the
same propensity to listen, contrary to what stubborn agents do
because these agents evaluate the counterpart’s opinion but never
approaches to it. Skilled and unskilled agents are the result
of influence of the competence in the evolution of decisions in
multi-agent systems. We perform a social simulation to show
that, in particular, consensus, polarization, extremism or the
emergence of a disordered regime are possible outcomes, even
without explicit introduction of stubborn agents
A New Nonlocal Nonlinear Diffusion Equation for Data Analysis
In this paper we introduce and study a new feature-preserving nonlinear nonlocal diffusion equation for denoising signals. The proposed partial differential equation is based on a novel diffusivity coefficient that uses a nonlocal automatically detected parameter related to the local bounded variation and the local oscillating pattern of the noisy input signal. We provide a mathematical analysis of the existence of the solution in the two dimensional case, but easily extensible to the one-dimensional model. Finally, we show some numerical experiments, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approac

Performance of Synthetic Extracellular Volume Fraction in Different Cardiac Phenotypes From a Prospective Cohort of Patients Referred for Cardiac Magnetic Resonance
Background A synthetic myocardial extracellular volume fraction (sECV) can be obtained without blood hematocrit (Hct) by using the linear relationship between Hct and the longitudinal relaxation time of blood. Concerns have been raised about the widespread clinical application of this approach. Purpose To assess the relationship between measured ECV (m-ECV) and sECV, using both a published model and a locally derived one. Study Type Single-center, prospective. Field Strength/Sequence A 1.5 T/modified Look Locker (MOLLI) sequence. Subjects Fifty-two healthy subjects and 113 patients (76 with and 37 without a hypertrophic cardiac phenotype). Assessment Three ECV values were obtained for each patient: 1) measured ECV (m-ECV), using Hct from a venous blood sample; 2) Fent-synthetic ECV (F-sECV), using the equation proposed by Fent et al; and 3) Local-synthetic ECV (L-sECV), using the equation obtained from a local derivation cohort comprising 83 subjects. Statistical Tests Shapiro-Wilk test, analysis of variance, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson correlation, Bland-Altman analysis, univariate and multivariable regression analysis. Results In the validation cohort (N = 82), Bland-Altmann analysis revealed an excellent agreement between m-ECV and L-sECV with a statistically insignificant bias (-0.1%, limits of agreement: -2.8% and 2.6%; P = 0.528), while in the overall population (N = 165), the mean bias between m-ECV and F-sECV was small but significant (1.2%, limits of agreement: -1.5% and 3.9%, P < 0.05). F-sECV bias was significantly higher for measured Hct (m-Hct) values <0.372 (2.3% vs. 1.0%, P < 0.05). Among the phenotype subgroups, amyloidotic patients showed a higher bias compared to others, both with F-sECV and L-sECV (2.3% vs. 1.1%, P < 0.05 and 1.1% vs. 0.2%, P < 0.05, respectively). Data Conclusion Although synthetic ECV performs well in an external cohort, the use of a local formula further improves the accuracy of ECV estimate over a broad spectrum of cardiac phenotypes. Local sECV performs better for a wider range of Hct values, compared to the published model. Amyloidosis is the only group associated with a lower accuracy.
