Assessing building energy performance and energy policy impact through the combined analysis of EPC data – The Italian case study of SIAPE

    No full text
Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and EPC digital registers are key tools to evaluate different aspects of the building stock and its energy consumption. This paper presents several detailed energy performance evaluations on the Italian buildings based on a sample of over 2,000,000 EPCs extracted from the national EPC register (SIAPE), contributing to the definition of an updated energy performance baseline of the Italian building stock. This is the first work using the Italian EPC register to define such a baseline to the extent of the authors’ knowledge. Furthermore, combined analyses of EPC data were carried out to obtain information on the influence of the Italian energy regulations on building characteristics and on the effectiveness of energy strategy application for building renovation. This study underlines the relevance of EPC registers and how the combined analysis of EPC parameters can provide a large amount of useful information on several aspects of the building stock, allowing the monitoring of the impact of the Italian energy policy framework on buildings energy performance. Finally, based on these results, the paper supports public authorities and decision-makers in planning and developing future energy programs and identifying the best practices on the Italian territory

Osservatorio degli edifici a energia quasi zero (nZEB) in Italia – 2016-2018

    No full text

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Methodological Framework and Prototype Realisation of a WEB-Based LCA Tool for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises

The eLCA Project, coordinated by ENEA in cooperation with other European partners, has the general objective to realise 'Databases and WEB site for the adoption of Integrated Product Policy (IPP) by Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs)'. Since the knowledge and the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by SMEs is a strategic 'step' to introduce IPP policy, ENEA, in cooperation with FEBE EcoLogic, has developed a specific tool for the eLCA Web-site, based on a five years research experience about the adoption of LCA by SMEs. The new tool eVerdEE provides solid scientific bases according to pragmatic and meaningful simplification/adaptation of ISO 14040 requirements, user-friendly, well structured and guided procedures with low time and cost demand and pre-elaborated data/meta-data. After compiling predefined and simplified Goal and Scope Definition and Inventory forms, Impact Assessment results are automatically interpreted in matrix forms at different levels of visualization in order to identify the product life cycle critical points and the improvement solutions. A direct comparison of the environmental performances of different life cycle options of a product is allowed using a target-plot system. The whole procedure is supported by a matrix structured database containing environmental indicators of substances and processes for different impact categories. The software prototype has been tested on a sample of SMEs working in the Furniture and Wood sector and the main aspects for further development have been identified

IDIOPATIC LIVER RUPTURE: AN ITALIAN CASE REPORT

    No full text
The liver can be damaged from an impact (such as in a car accident) or from penetrating trauma (such as a stab or gunshot wound). Liver lesions range from relatively small collections of blood (hematomas) to large deep lacerations. Since the liver is supplied with many large blood vessels, the main problem following a liver injury is severe bleeding. Almost all bleeding from a liver injury occurs in the abdominal cavity. Spontaneous rupture of the liver is a rare occurrence. This is often associated with underlying pathological conditions (pregnant women with HELLP syndrome, liver pathologies such as adenoma, hepatic lymphoma, hepatocellular carcinoma HCC, macronodular cirrhosis, hemangioma, metastatic tumors and peliosis hepatis) or following traumatic insults. The authors report a rare case of spontaneous rupture of the liver that occurred in a 72-year-old man without underlying pathologies predisposing this condition, in the absence of evident traumatic lesions in the abdominal area and with a near-negative pathological history of trauma (falls, road accidents, etc.)

Adoption of Integrated Product Policy by SMEs: the eLCA Project

    No full text
The acceptance of IPP by Small and Medium sized Enterprises, SMEs, is a crucial issue for the entire policy. The eLCA Project, coordinated by ENEA in cooperation with other national and European partners has the general objective to realise 'Databases and WEB site for the adoption of Integrated Product Policy by SMEs'. eLCA is a cross sectorial project between IPP, SMEs and Information Society (IS), involving two aspects: Public Sector Information (PSI) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The information content of products based on Life Cycle Analysis and the exchange of information among the stakeholders of the product life cycle are key aspects of IPP. These issues have been analysed and integrated in 'eLCA Preparatory Action', aimed at defining the context and the technical and economic aspects of the WEB site

The issue of suicide has always been a very sensitive and important problem, that raises many questions in the society where it occurs, that is not always able to oppose an adequate response. Every scientist in the field agrees that this is an act provoked by multifaceted reasons, which include cultural, social and biographical motives. Therefore, this topic also poses ethical and civil problems, as well as epistemo-logic and research methodology issues, because of its complexity as a subject of study. The authors propose a case-by-case contribution, evaluating the judicial acts on 73 suicides made available by the Bari Public Prosecutor’s Office for the years 2014-2016.The authors believe collected and systematized data, and the ensuing considerations, can offer a contribution to the debate in the field of legal and socio-healthcare actors, who are often the first to deal with and confront this complex and tragic phenomenon.
