Experimental study of the propellant gas load required for pellet injection with ITER-relevant operating parameters
An existing pipe gun test facility at ORNL was used for an experimental study of propellant gas loads required for ITER-relevant pellet injection, with the key objective of determining the minimal amount of gas required for optimal pellet speeds. Two pellet sizes were tested, with nominal 4.4 and 3.2 mm diameters comparable to pellets planned for fueling and ELM pacing in ITER, respectively. A novel scheme was used to freeze solid pellets from room temperature gas; this facilitated operations at higher temperatures (14.5 to 16.5 K, similar to those planned for extruder operations for ITER pellet injectors) and thus lower pellet breakaway pressures and gas loads. Most of the single-shot D2 pellet tests were carried out with a relatively low H2 propellant gas load of ∼0.0133 bar-L. Some limited testing was also carried out with a mixed propellant gas that consisted mostly of D2, which is more representative of the gas that will be used for ITER pellet injection. In testing it was found that this reference gas load resulted in pellet speeds in close proximity to a speed limit (∼300 m/s) previously determined in a series of tests with D2 pellets shot through a mock-up of the curved guide tubes planned for the ITER installation (for pellet fueling from the magnetic high-field side). The equipment, operations, and test results are presented and discussed, with emphasis on the relevance for ITER operations
Selectable flight tube design developments for ITER fueling, ELM pacing, and impurity pellets
ITER fueling and Edge Localized Mode (ELM) pacing pellets will be created by punching and chambering pellets with a solenoid operated cutter from an extrudate formed by a twin-screw extruder. The cut pellets are then accelerated down a flight tube by a fast pneumatic valve. The impurity pellets are formed in-situ with a pipe gun technique and accelerated down a flight tube with the same pneumatic valve design. © 2015 IEEE

Fuzzy Regression Models with Fuzzy Random Variables: Application in the Social and Economic Fields
The human capital stock of the firm, accumulated through educational and training activities, is one of the main factors of production and economic growth. From the firm’s perspective, the aim of the human capital investment is to increase productivity; instead, for the employees, the primary aims of the education and training are the effects on their wages and carriers. Our paper focuses on the analysis of the determinants that can affect the performance of employees in a training course. In particular, it is proposed a fuzzy regression model to analyze the dependence of the dependent variable "vote" by some independent fuzzy and crisp variables
Governance, Entrepreneurial Orientation and Performance in Italian SMEs
Abstract
Aim of the paper
The aim of the paper is to investigate the dynamic of the relationship between governance structure,
entrepreneurial orientation (EO), and performance in Italian small and medium-enterprises (SMEs).
Italian SMEs are characterized by governance structure in which ownership, board and top
management often overlap. Several studies highlight how these features affect the strategy, the
innovativeness, the risk-taking, and the financial and organizational performance. Governance
structure appears to be a key factor in influencing the entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and
consequently firm performance.
The contribution to the literature
Within the field of studies concerning the corporate governance of SMEs, the present work
underlines the possibility to consider also the EO in the investigation of the existing relations
between governance and performance of the enterprise. In the field of the literature on the
entrepreneurship, this research supports the affirmation that the relationship between the EO and the
performance is more complex than a simple direct relationship and underling the necessity to take
into consideration also the effects produced by the inside characteristics of the enterprise.
The methodology
We used a survey data from 89 SMEs. For each company were measured dimensions of governance
(GOV), entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and performance (PFR).
Structural model with latent variables was applied; both the measurement model and structural
model are simultaneously estimated by LISREL.
For each hypothesis we calculated path coefficients and test statistical significance, and the
resulting model’s goodness of fit indicated how model fit in the analysis.
The results and implication
The analysis of the results of the research highlight that the opening of the governance mechanisms
to the extraneous subjects to both the family and the company, together with effective delegation
processes of governance functions, constitutes a determinant key to the possible company results

The impact of M&A on bank's financial performance: evidence from emerging economy.
The proliferation of bank M&A has been a global phenomenon. In many emerging economies, bank M&A has often been driven by policies for restructuring the banking industry in the hope of improving stability in the financial system. The Pakistan M&A market is relatively new and is characterized by several unique features. In this regards, our study aim is to examine the impact of pre and post M&A on the bank’s financial performance in Pakistan during the period (2004-2015). Our results reveal that liquidity, profitability and investment ratios of the banks are positively and significantly increased the performance after M&A. Nevertheless, the solvency ratios indicate negative effects which are mainly based on the fact that after undergoing M&A the acquiring bank has to deal with the greater amount of debt burden as compared to pre-M&A. In light of these results, this study suggests implications for both theory and practice and also recommends ideas for future research

Diversity in the Social and Economic Science: Review and Application
Board diversity is an important mechanism of corporate governance in order to ensure the efficacy of the management and monitoring actions. A large number of empirical studies and the European Commission identify board diversity as an important indicator of success for international corporate practice. Although many indices have been proposed to evaluate diversity, no universally accepted measure has yet been established. Even in ecology, diversity, meant as bio-diversity, is a very important aspect in assessing the quality of the environment; for this reason, also in this field, numerous indices have been proposed. This paper aims to make a review and a comparison between the diversity indices proposed in the two areas and understand what are the limitations and advantages of the indices proposed in recent decades
