Environmental information, social and institutional trust, and energy-saving behavior: Evidence from Italy.
This paper relies on data from an ADL-ISTAT survey and on a sample selection
probit model to study the link between environmental information, social
and institutional trust, and individual energy saving behavior. Results show
that (i) individuals who actively keep informed about environmental issues
save more energy than individuals who passively receive information; (iii)
individuals’ interest in environmental issues is driven by proxies of environmental
concerns and social activities in the selection equation; (iv) the
inverse Mills ratio enters in the energy saving equation with a statistically
negative sign, meaning that there is an overestimation of energy saving
behavior if the selectivity problem of individuals’ interest in environmental
issues is not accounted for

A Resilient LoRa-Based Solution to Support Pervasive Sensing
Today, billions of small devices that can sense things are connected, creating the Internet of Things (IoT). This major technological step has led to ideas like smart cities, smart factories, and smart countries. One important use of this technology is pervasive sensing, which could benefit from a network that covers a wide area but does not use much power. This paper looks closely at the advantages and disadvantages of using LoRa-a network technology that can reach long distances with limited energy use-in situations like this. To this aim, we have created a holistic solution to manage the considered network enabling synchronization, routing, and reliability. In particular, we have even developed an adaptive spreading factor mechanism, simple and effective in allowing the network to cope better when the connection is not very good

Supporting Smart Farming through Bandwidth Adaptation in Satellite Communications
Access to the Internet is a crucial enabler for many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Unfortunately, a significant part of the world's population is left behind due to the lack of access to a reliable and affordable Internet connection. Satellites have the potential to impact the current market of Internet services significantly. In particular, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites promise high-bandwidth without compromising latency. They can be employed in 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (e.g., IoT connectivity, connected autonomous driving, communication in rural areas, and more). Smart farming and precise agriculture (even remotely controlled), especially in underdeveloped areas, are compelling use cases for LEO satellites. In these scenarios, high bandwidth and low latency are required to facilitate both quick transmission of images/videos and prompt remote control of drones, tractors, actuators, etc. This study compares different TCP protocols based on the..
Smart Mobility Applications Supported by Non-Terrestrial Networks: Addressing the Need for Low Per-Packet Delays
Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites offer a promising solution for ubiquitous connectivity and can be utilized in 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) for applications like IoT, autonomous driving, and rural communication. They are particularly suited for smart mobility in urban environments, where fast data transmission and real-time control of vehicles and infrastructure are crucial. In this study, we compare TCP protocols for satellite communication in smart mobility scenarios and propose a solution that uses a limited buffer size to reduce per-packet delays without affecting the throughput

Leveraging 5G Technology to Investigate Energy Consumption and CPU Load at the Edge in Vehicular Networks
The convergence of vehicular communications, 5th generation mobile network (5G) technology, and edge computing marks a paradigm shift in intelligent transportation. Vehicular communication systems, including Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure, are integral to Intelligent Transportation Systems. The advent of 5G enhances connectivity, while edge computing brings computational processes closer to data sources. This synergy holds the potential to revolutionize transportation efficiency and safety. This research investigates vehicular communication and edge computing dynamics within a 5G network, considering varying distances between On Board Units and Roadside Units. Energy consumption patterns and CPU load at the RSU are analyzed through meticulous real-world experiments and simulations. Our results show stable energy consumption at shorter distances, with fluctuations increasing at greater ranges. CPU load correlates with communication distance, highlighting the need for adaptive algorithms. While experiments exhibit higher
variability, our simulations validate these findings, emphasizing the importance of considering transmission range in vehicular communication network design
Indicators of measurement and evaluation of the environmental performance of small and medium enterprises and their accounting implications:
The study aims at identifying the indicators of measuring and evaluating the environmental performance of the small and medium industrial establishments and their accounting implications, as it is considered one of the most important environmental issues for decision makers, whether internal or external parties, which always strive to achieve the environmental balance of the establishment. The study concluded that the non-measurement and analysis of environmental costs inaccurate analysis of the incorrect cost deviations and the adoption of operational decisions a Investment is incorrect, and should ensure that owners of establishments that small and medium-sized enterprises and their mission objectives is the focus of attention and the focus of the information system and reporting on environmental costs, so it do its work accessible to the fullest
