An historical instance of urban unsustainability that astounds to this day
The aim of the paper is to present how the interaction between the micro behaviours of individual families and the collective macro behaviour of the city of Pavia produced a unique historical phenomenon that, on the one hand, has amazed Italy and the whole world for its striking number of towers and on the other represents a clear example of urban housing unsustainability in the Middle Ages. In the paper, using a simulation software, the micro and macro effects of the accumulation of towers in the city of Pavia are shown. The study of the behaviour of collectivities has been a very complex subject of analysis and for this reason, a fascinating and interesting one as well. To understand, explain and, to a certain extent, control collective phenomena, the Theory of Combinatory Systems was recently formalized. This theory describes, interprets and simulates the most relevant collective phenomena and their observable effects. With the aid of a simple probabilistic combinatory automaton, we have simulated the dynamics of the formation of the towered town of Pavia, Italy, which is unique in all the world, as can be observed in the historical descriptions or by a visit to this ancient Italian town
Ethical behaviour integrated in csr: how to create and maintain the corporate reputation.
The objective of this study is to point out how the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Ethical Behavior are linked and represent the conditions of existence for the corporate system, understood as a long-lasting organization of individuals or institutions which produces outcomes for the external stakeholders. We think that ethical behaviors are pivotal in determining the success or failure of an organization. They affect a company’s reputation and help to define a business model that will thrive even in adversity. Organizations can consider ethical behavior a way to differentiate themselves through the relationships that they create with stakeholders. This study aims to describe ways of identifying the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility that allow a more meaningful understanding of the Ethical behavior of modern corporations. The interest in the researches in all areas of ethical behavior and CSR is growing. Ethical behavior and CSR drive the activities of an organization and the value systems that underlie their business activities. We have studied CSR through the framework of the stakeholder theory of the organizations and posit that CSR, as practiced today, is connected with ethical behavior with other dimensions of an overall reputation framework still uncovered. The analysis of the international literature will be accompanied by the case study of the company L’Oréal. The L’Oréal company's behavior is as important as its economic performance or the quality of its products. In these regards, L’Oréal’s ambition is to be an exemplary company worldwide and integrates ethics into the very heart of its business practices. In 2017, the group was recognized for the eighth time by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies”. The values of L’Oréal and ethical principles guide the company in the every- day actions. L’Oréal is also in 1st place of France’s CAC 40 companies ranks for the Observatory on corporate reputation
The Capitalistic Firm as a System that Produces Economic and Social Values
The aim of the paper is to analyse the capitalistic firm, not only as systems for the creation of economic and financial value for their shareholders, but also that is evaluated for the social values. The financial performance and the value of capital, is measured by a coherent system of monetary values. Nevertheless, if we do not limit our view to simply the shareholders but consider instead the stakeholders, we must then also broaden our notion of the production of sustainable value to include both the social and the environmental values. This implies an intense social action based on transparency, reputation and the dialogue with the stakeholders that need to be communicates. The sustainability report is the instrument to inform the stakeholders how the firm, by pursuing its own prevailing interests, contributes to improving the quality of life of the members of the society in which it operates and that can, in all respects, represent a means for the creation of sustainable value
