Comportamento a corrosione dell’acciaio in calcestruzzo “no-fines”
Cutaneous localization of plasmablastic multiple myeloma with heterotopic expression of CD3 and CD4: Skin involvement revealing systemic disease.
Plasmablastic multiple myeloma is an uncommon morphological variant of multiple myeloma with aggressive clinical course and poor outcome. Its differential diagnosis includes plasmablastic lymphoma, a variant of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with frequent extranodal presentation, which usually affects immunosuppressed patients and is virtually indistinguishable from plasmablastic multiple myeloma on the basis of histology solely. Differential diagnosis relies on close clinical-pathological correlation. Herein, the authors report a case of aggressive multiple myeloma occurring in a 48-year-old patient with pure plasmablastic morphology, expression of T-cell markers CD3 and CD4, and cutaneous involvement as first presenting sign. Heterotopic expression of T-cell markers has been described in literature for both plasmablastic multiple myeloma and plasmablastic lymphoma. The causative mechanisms underlying this aberrant phenotype have not yet been elucidated; nevertheless the possibility of this rare finding should be considered to avoid misinterpretations. Remarkably, despite occurring rarely, cutaneous involvement could be observed at an early stage or even be the first manifestation of disease in particularly aggressive forms of myeloma. As a consequence, the presence of cutaneous lesions should not favor a straightforward diagnosis of plasmablastic lymphoma. The importance of a correct differential diagnosis lies in its therapeutical implications
An approach for a rapid determination of the aging time of lime putty
A method for determining the effective and long aging time of lime putty, a feature which favors better quality of the corresponding lime mortar, is proposed. Different quicklime precursors were slaked under an excess of water for different times ranging from 3 to 66 months. Each of resulting lime putty was dehydrated by lyophilization and after characterized by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and surface area. Taking into account the impurity contents present in the starting quicklime, the mineralogical composition of each lime putty was determined from the weight loss related to the amount of adsorbed water and to the weight losses related to the decomposition of mineral phases present in the lime putty such as brucite, Mg(OH)2, portlandite, Ca(OH)2 and calcite, CaCO3, respectively. The total mineralogical composition of lime putties aged for a time higher than 12 months was close to the expected value of 100%, while such value resulted lower than 100% for lime putties aged for lower times. To justify such result, an incomplete hydration of the quicklime precursor must be considered for lime putties aged for lower times. The delayed hydration can be related to the presence of over burnt of some particles of lime present in the starting quicklime
Update on diagnostic criteria, on biopsy and surgical specimen: Preinvasive lesions, from epithelial cell hyperplasia to carcinoma in situ and invasive carcinoma - First-line immuno-phenotyping of prostate diseases
Prostate cancer (PCa) is the first most common malignant neoplasm among men in Western countries and the fifth cause of cancer worldwide. Up to date, there is no single tumor biomarker that accurately predicts patient's clinical outcome. On the basis of these considerations, an optimal characterization of patients with PCa represents an increasingly exciting challenge for surgical pathologists. The ability to discriminate between low and high aggressive PCa represents an highly debated issue, which is critical for the therapeutic choices. This chapter focuses on the recent findings about the prostate morphological and immunohistochemical findings, with a brief reference to recent development of molecular markers with diagnostic and/or prognostic relevance, in the hope of guiding the approach to the pathological interpretation of prostate bioptic and surgical tissue specimens
Intersubjectivity, Joint Action and Sociality
Intersubjectivity consists of the mutual coordination, incorporation and sharing of meaning and experience between people over time. The study of intersubjectivity raises difficult conceptual and methodological issues. Defined as a form of mutually coordinated experience, intersubjective processes are those that occur between rather than merely within persons. As such, the concept of intersubjectivity incorporates but extends beyond related concepts such as sociality, commonality, and perspective taking. To the extent that intersubjective processes are relational ones, their study requires the ability to analyze forms of engagement that occur between rather than merely within individual actors. We suggest that the most basic way to assess intersubjectivity involves recruiting the human capacity for intersubjective engagement itself as a primary method of psychological research. Toward this end, drawing on existing studies involving moment-by-moment observation of videotaped interaction, we track the developmental changes of different forms of intersubjective engagement as they occur between infants and their caregivers. Building on this work, we propose and illustrate methods for identifying moment-by-moment changes in sociality and intersubjective engagement as they occur in verbal and nonverbal joint action among adults
