Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex Fr. nuovo patogeno di Ruscus hypoglossum L. in Italia
Attacks of Botrytis cinerea Pers. ex Fr. on Ruscus hypoglossum L. plants, grown in pots in greenhouses, were recorded for the first time in Italy. Affected cladodes showed circular necrotic spots, greyish in colour with a yellow halo; the lesions later became darker and in some cladodes the necrotic tissues gradually tore. Some stems also showed large necrotic lesions which did not girdle the stalk. Koch's postulates were fulfilled by inoculating Ruscus plants with the isolated fungus. Botrytis attacks had been probably favoured by greenhouse conditions, especially high relative humidity. Fungicides such as dicloran and dichlofuanid can significantly reduce disease development and new fungicides (cyprodinil, fludioxonil+cyprodinil) may also be effective for Botrytis control
