    The more you know, the better you act? Institutional communication in Covid-19 crisis management

    The plurality of communication channels and the spread of fake news are widespread phenomena in today's society. Those constituted a serious risk during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis management, increasing the confusion among the population. This research aims at assessing the effectiveness of institutional communication amid the management of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis in Italy. We first assessed the phenomenon by building a structured theoretical background stressing the concepts of risk communication, community engagement, and health literacy, highlighting the dynamic and continuously changing scenario of communication strategies, also due to the spread of social media and the mutation of conventional media outlets. We sent a questionnaire to a sample of citizens to assess the impact of three predictors, i.e., the perceived communication, the perceived knowledge, and the perceived information. Based on answers, we built an ordered logit model assigning continuous intervals as values for the dependent variables. The observed results enhanced the crucial role of the phenomenon of health literacy and the impact of asymmetric information on the effectiveness of institutional communication. Education played a fundamental role in understanding communication pillars and building an individual consciousness about health risks prevention

    Short communication: improvements to INRIM Johnson noise thermometer

    This paper presents a progress report for the Johnson noise thermometry experiment which is under development at the Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica. In order to aim at an uncertainty level better than 10−5 and to reduce the measurement time, a new setup has been developed. In particular, several modifications have been applied to the experiment described by Callegaro et al. (Metrologia 46: 409, 2009) to improve the traceability to voltage, resistance and frequency standards, and new amplifiers have been designed in order to expand the working frequency range up to 20 kHz, with a sensing resistor of 1 kohm, while maintaining amplifier induced systematic errors to an acceptable level

    Showcasing green: how culture influences sustainable behavior in food eco-labeling

    Purpose: The aim of this study is to verify, through Hofstede's 6-D model, the impact of national culture on the implementation of eco-labeling activities on the supplier side, in order to provide consumers information about the sustainable behavior adopted by firms. Design/methodology/approach: The authors tested the impact of culture dimensions through an econometric model, on a sample composed by several countries of the world, in which at least a food certification is in force. Findings: Interesting results have been obtained and discussed, proving the existence of a relationship between culture and corporate sustainability showcasing. Cultural heritage has a deep influence on sustainable consumption demand. Firms need to put more effort to showcase their green behavior. Economic indicators have a role in fostering sustainable behavior. Originality/value: Food labeling is little explored, despite its growing importance for consumers. This research is a window in green marketing issues, specifically in global branding strategies
