Essential oil composition and in vivo volatiles emission by different parts of Coleostephus myconis capitula

    No full text
The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the flowering capitula of Coleostephus myconis (syn. Chrysanthemum myconis) was constituted almost exclusively of oxygenated sesquiterpenes (85.8%). The main constituent was T-cadinol (66.2%), followed by valeranone (8.2%), germacrene D (6.0%) and α-cadinol (4.6%). By mean of the SPME technique, the volatiles emitted in vivo by the whole capitula and by tubular and ligulate florets have been identified. Many differences were evidenced among the different organs and with respect to the essential oi

Composition of the essential oil of Daucus gingidium L. ssp. gingidium

The essential oils obtained from leaves and fruits of Daucus gingidium ssp. gingidium have been studied. The main constituents of the essential oil from the leaves were sabinene (26.8%), α-pinene (10.8%), germacrene D (6.9%) and limonene (5.7%). Sabinene (60.6%) was the main compound identified in the essential oil of the fruits, followed by α-pinene (12.2%) and 4-terpineol (5.4%). Furthermore, qualitative and quantitative considerations about differences with literature data on Daucus carota have been made in order to confirm the species status of D. gingidiu

Informations are given about some Pteridophytes contained in an unpublished manuscript by Vincenzo Carmignani, a XIXth century scientist from Pisa. He describes 17 cryptogamic vascular plants of the province of Pisa and he reports their medicinal and common uses. The manuscript is preserved at the Botanical Museum of Pisa

Lectotypification of two Origanum names (Lamiaceae) described by Gaetano Savi

Origanum confertum Savi and O. fortuitum Savi are typified on herbarium specimens kept in PI. These taxa are identifiable, as heterotypic synonyms, with O. majorana L. and O. xpaniculatum W.D.J.Koch, respectively

The Origanum Collection of Gaetano Savi (1769-1844) in the Herbarium Horti Pisani (PI). The collection of exsiccata of the genus Origanum, studied by Gaetano Savi and kept in the Herbarium Horti Pisani (PI) represents a valuable document of Savi's work as a taxonomist. It provides useful news for researchers of systematics and history of botany. The collection is enriched by some original drawings and includes the lectotypes of Origanum confertum Savi and O. fortuitum Savi

Survival in different habitats: Extreme ultramafic and calcareous soils affect Stachys recta essential oils composition

    No full text
Two populations of Stachys recta growing in Italy on ultramafic and calcareous soils have been studied for their essential oils. Although the yields were comparable, the composition of the essential oils differed significantly. Plants growing on ultramafic soil produced mainly non-terpene derivatives (55.7%), of which the most abundant ones were 1-octen-3-ol (38.2%) and (E)-3-hexen-1-ol (5.9%); the terpenes α-cadinol (6.1%) and δ-cadinene (5.6%) were also significantly represented. In contrast, the populations living on calcareous soil produced an essential oil dominated by terpenes (93.8%), with germacrene D (18.8%), β-caryophyllene (17.7%), 1,8-cineole (15.9%) and α-pinene (14.2%) among the main components
