    Ramendra Kumar (Ramen) is an award-winning writer, storyteller and inspirational speaker with 42 books to his name.  Ramen’s writings have been published by many of the leading publishers in the county and translated into 30 languages. They have found a place in several textbooks and anthologies. He has written across all genres ranging from picture books to adult fiction, satire, poetry, travelogues, biographies and on issues related to parenting and relationships. He has been invited to literary festivals held in Denmark, Greece, Sharjah, Sri Lanka as well Indian events including the prestigious Jaipur Litfest to conduct storytelling sessions and creative writing workshops. He has also been empanelled by Pearson India Education Services as well as several schools to conduct workshops. He was nominated as a Jury Member for the Best Children’s Author Category of The Times of India’s ‘Women AutHer’ Awards 2020.     Online Voting System using Ethereum in Blockchain Technology

    Abstract: Modern digital technology has enhanced the lives of several people. Unlike to the election system, it makes heavy use of printed paper. Elections using the traditional method risk the security aspects and openness. The institution that oversees general elections continues to adopt a centralized approach. With an organization having complete control over the database and system, it is feasible to tamper with the database of significant opportunities. This is one of the issues that might arise in traditional election systems. Because it adopts a decentralized structure and the full database is held by multiple people, blockchain technology has been one of the solutions. The methodology outlined in this work examines the usefulness of hashing algorithms, the construction and sealing of blocks, the accumulation of data, and the declaration of results using an adaptable blockchain approach. Electronic voting or e-voting has fundamental benefits over paper-based systems such as increased efficiency and reduced errors. The electronic voting system tends to maximize user participation, by allowing them to vote from anywhere and from any device that has an internet connection. The blockchain is an emerging, decentralized, and distributed technology with strong cryptographic foundations that promises to improve different aspects of many industries. Expanding e-voting into blockchain technology could be the solution to alleviate the present concerns in e-voting. Here we propose a blockchain-based voting system that will limit the voting fraud and make the voting process simple, secure and efficient.     Improving the Computational Effciency of Downscaling GCM data for Use in SWAT

    This project creates software tools to streamline the computational procedures to generate high-resolution weather parameters from low resolution Global Climate Models (GCM) to be input into the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) and to visualize GCM temperature and precipitation data as well as SWAT outputs of crop data. Data from GCMs have relatively low spatial resolution ( 100km x 100km), which needs to be downscaled to a higher resolution to match the resolution of the observed data so that both the data sets can be input into SWAT. We consider several decades of historical simulations from GCMs, and surface-based observations of historical temperature and precipitation data over the Missouri River Basin (MRB). The downscaling method involves two steps: i) bilinear interpolation to ll in values at higher resolution and ii) Linear or Tobit regression between the GCM and the observed data to accurately capture the features of observed data in the GCM temperature and precipitation at high resolution. This downscaled data is then used to generate forecasts, which are used as inputs for SWAT. Based on these statistical downscaling methods, the SWAT outputs are compared. Since the data is large, we focus on maximizing computational e ciency through parallelization of the data generation, model tting and forecasting. A graphical R interface is developed to facilitate the modeling and visualization components at each step. The interface allows climate models and SWAT outputs to be more easily compared for di erent scenarios, thus help assess climate variability and its impact on crop yields over MRB.These results were obtained as part of the REU Site: Interdisciplinary Program in High Performance Computing (www.umbc.edu/hpcreu) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in Summer 2014. Rankings reduce complex systems to ordered lists, reflecting the ability of their elements to perform relevant functions, and are being used from socioeconomic policy to knowledge extraction. A century of research has found regularities when temporal rank data is aggregated. Far less is known, however, about how rankings change in time. Here we explore the dynamics of 30 rankings in natural, social, economic, and infrastructural systems, comprising millions of elements and timescales from minutes to centuries. We find that the flux of new elements determines the stability of a ranking: for high flux only the top of the list is stable, otherwise top and bottom are equally stable. We show that two basic mechanisms — displacement and replacement of elements — capture empirical ranking dynamics. The model uncovers two regimes of behavior; fast and large rank changes, or slow diffusion. Our results indicate that the balance between robustness and adaptability in ranked systems might be governed by simple random processes irrespective of system details.Peer reviewe

    Data on road traffic incidents for Sydney greater metropolitan area

    A road network aims to facilitate the movement of commuters and goods in a safe, economical, and efficient way that contributes to growth in the economy. Road traffic incidents (RTIs), such as crashes, vehicle breakdowns, hazards, etc., are unexpected events that cause severe traffic congestion, unreliability, and pollution. The existing open-source RTI databases provide information on only a single type of incident, i.e., crashes that too focusing on the fatal ones. Other incidents, such as vehicle breakdowns, are underreported to the transport authorities as they are less severe than road traffic crashes. However, traffic congestion induced by on-road breakdowns is non-trivial, as reported by past studies. Furthermore, the existing RTI databases lack information on incident duration, a variable that indicates the time it takes for the authorities to clear the incident site and bring traffic operations back to normalcy. The increase in duration may reflect either the severity of the incident or/and the delay in emergency services and thus becomes a key indicator for traffic and safety management. Therefore, this paper aims to present the RTI data of the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area (GMA), Australia, which includes crashes and breakdowns, along with their duration, covering 5.5 years, starting from the 1st January 2017. The uniqueness of this data is that the RTI duration, i.e., the clearance time of every incident, is provided along with other details, such as vehicles involved, traffic conditions, advisories imposed, etc., over a larger area. Further, the secondary data corresponding to the road network, zonal information, socioeconomic attributes, and travel characteristics collected from various sources were also included.
