When to STAMP? A case study in aircraft ground handling services

    No full text
In this paper we show that safety analysis using the STAMP causation model is limited in the extent to which it appreciates complex dynamics of safety. When the STAMP is applied as management tool, controls may be introduced too soon in the analysis since it is necessary to understand emergent behaviour first. Emergent behaviour can be studied through organizational ethnography in parallel development with an agent-based model, as illustrated in a case study of airport ground handling services. Based on ethnographic research and theories from psychology and social sciences, we developed an agent model that showed why repeated attempts at managerial control to improve employees’ safety compliance were not durable. The insights obtained through the case study attained to move management ideas about what control means towards creating smarter design and communication processes that involve the work force.Control & OperationsAerospace Engineerin

    The Spiraling Food Stamp Program

    No full text
Observes how the Food Stamp Program has greatly expanded from a small program to dispose of agricultural surplus to an extremely large welfare program. The author claims that the program has grown as a result of the Senate’s Select Committee on Nutrition and Human needs focusing on hunger and nutrition. Nevertheless, the author thinks that the program’s growth will face public relations issues with taxpayers who may deem that not all recipients are eligible because of the loopholes. The author discusses the following issues: 1) the evolutionary stages of the program 2) the closing of participation and food income gaps and 3) the increase in participation and benefits in terms of costs

[[alternative]]A study on the application of the Chinese zodiac ink stamp and design creation take Chinese zodiac creation as example

[[abstract]]The Chinese image stamp also named animals symbolizing stamp, pictograph stamp, pattern stamp, picture stamp or sealing stamp. The image stamp can describe various of lively activities, such as hunting, battling with animal, fighting, feeding birds and beasts, farming, singing and dancing, even riding dragon or tiger is common. Every dynasty has various stamps and with difference characterisics. Since there are many theses research on "character" stamp, my study will stress the meaning of "image stamp" and its characteristic. Image stamp not only has pattern style but also has hieroglyph type. This kind of stamp combined aesthetics of painting, calligraphy and carving, its unique style developing the view for artist and designer to create their work. "The Chinese zodiac ink stamp " create two types of style for Chinese zodiac mark: 1.Using engraving skill and composition to design modern image tamp, in addition, article and picture present the interest of logotype. 2.Belending characters and simple line, the pattern of Chinesse zodiac can present traditional conception as well. Instead stone or wooe, the material of stamp is replacedy by transparent acrylic to show the new creation of the image stamp. Reserch Result: 1.The transformation of the Chinese zodiac ink stamp and modern design 2.The Chinese zodiac ink stamp blend composition adn carving method into beautiful state 3.The application of modern design that represent in space design

Gambling for Success: The Lottery Ticket Hypothesis in Deep Learning-Based Side-Channel Analysis

    No full text
Deep learning-based side-channel analysis (SCA) represents a strong approach for profiling attacks. Still, this does not mean it is trivial to find neural networks that perform well for any setting. Based on the developed neural network architectures, we can distinguish between small neural networks that are easier to tune and less prone to overfitting but could have insufficient capacity to model the data. On the other hand, large neural networks have sufficient capacity but can overfit and are more difficult to tune. This brings an interesting trade-off between simplicity and performance. This work proposes to use a pruning strategy and recently proposed Lottery Ticket Hypothesis (LTH) as an efficient method to tune deep neural networks for profiling SCA. Pruning provides a regularization effect on deep neural networks and reduces the overfitting posed by overparameterized models. We demonstrate that we can find pruned neural networks that perform on the level of larger networks, where we manage to reduce the number of weights by more than 90% on average. This way, pruning and LTH approaches become alternatives to costly and difficult hyperparameter tuning in profiling SCA. Our analysis is conducted over different masked AES datasets and for different neural network topologies. Our results indicate that pruning, and more specifically LTH, can result in competitive deep learning models.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Cyber Securit

A STAMP-based approach to quantitative resilience assessment of chemical process systems

    No full text
Chemical process systems (CPSs) involve complex dynamic processes. Besides, the emergent and uncertain hazards and disruptions cannot be identified entirely and prevented by conventional methods. In those situations, resilience for CPSs plays an essential role in absorbing, adapting to disruptions, and restoring from damages. Systemic modeling plays a vital role in assessing resilience. A system-based analysis model, system-theoretic accident model, and process (STAMP) can provide a robust framework. This paper develops a comprehensive methodology to systematically model and assess system resilience. The STAMP is employed to model and analyze the system safety of a process system. A new method of dynamic resilience assessment is then proposed to quantify the resilience of the system. The proposed method is applied to the diesel oil hydrogenation system. The results show that it quantifies the resilience of complex process systems considering human and organizational factors in a dynamic manner.Safety and Security Scienc

Provisions, Applicability and Recent Amendments To The Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958

    No full text
This paper deals with the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958 and the recent amendments related to the same. Stamp Duty is an important part of Land Law and the relevant provisions, application and relevant judgments of the same are discussed in the paper. Stamp duty is charges by the government levied on documents or instruments which have certain transactional nature which forms a part of the government exchequer. It is required to pay the adequate stamp duty as regards to the Maharashtra Stamp Act, which mentions the rate of stamp duty applicable on specific instruments such as transfer, agreement, conveyance, etc. Recent cases of stamp duty evasion have been rising in the State of Maharashtra which has led to certain amendments in the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958 which has also been discussed herein. The author has taken up the case law of Trustees of H.C. Dhanda Trust v. State of Madhya Pradesh and Ors of 2020, to analyze one such case of stamp duty evasion and has commented upon the judgment delivered therein. This paper duly encompasses all aspects of stamp duty in consonance with the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958 and discusses the measures which could bring about more clarity upon the current laws of stamp duty and consequence of evasion, in accordance with the stamp duty law in the state of Maharashtra

Two FDC envelopes celebrating the 12 Franc stamp

I had not been aware of this Florian stamp. He was born in Sauve in Gard in 1755. Poor Florian. Even this celebration of him includes, in the prose under his portrait: "Author of lovely pastorals and especially of numerous fables, which rank him as the follower, even if from a great distance, of our own good La Fontaine" (italics mine). Perhaps the easiest scene to recognize on the fable composite has the monkey lecturing with a magic lanterne. The stamp itself classifies him as "Fabuliste Romancier Autour Dramatique. Two FDC envelopes celebrating the 12 Franc stamp from 1955 featuring a portrait of Florian. Both have a postmark "Premier Jour Sauve - Florian - 2 Avril 1955." One envelope features a duochrome bust of Florian. The other presents a full-color collection of scenes from his fables. $4 each from Loic Marchat, Villeurbanne, France, through eBay, Oct. 11, 05
