Data for Looking Under the Hood: How Research is Utilized in 2020 Presidential Postsecondary Education Campaign Platforms

    No full text
Beginning in January 2020, we tracked the front-running democratic presidential candidates’ (Biden, Sanders, Warren) campaign platforms related to higher education to examine how academic research is used to frame prospective postsecondary education policies in presidential elections in the United States. This is a multi-level dataset of the gray literature cited on Biden, Sanders, and Warren's 2020 presidential campaign websites’ postsecondary education subpages. Level One of dataset: All sources cited by Biden, Sanders, and Warren's postsecondary education subpage on their campaign website. The metadata for each source included the URLs hyperlinked in the body of the text, sponsoring organization, the first and last names of the first six authors and whether the first author was affiliated with an institution of higher education at the time of publication. Level Two of dataset: reference information for each Level One reference. Reference information included the Level Two reference’s sponsoring organization, its type and subtype, and the first and last name of the first author and whether the first author was affiliated with an institution of higher education at the time of publication

Symptomatic Severe Tricuspid Insufficiency as a Late Complication of Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty Symptomatic Severe Tricuspid Insufficiency as a Late Complication of Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty

Abstract: The authors describe an unusual case of a young adult patient with symptomatic tricuspid valve insufficiency as a late consequence of pulmonary valve balloon dilatation in childhood. Patient was successfully treated by tricuspid valve repair with neo-chordae implantation and a ring plasty. Two years after the operation the patient, an active sportsman, is asymptomatic with trace tricuspid regurgitation on the echo examination. Mailing Address: Vilém Rohn, MD., PhD., Charles University in Prague, First Faculty of Medicine and General University Hospital, Second Department of Surgery -Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, U Nemocnice 2, 128 00 Prague 2, Czech Republic; Phone: +420 224 962 797; Fax: +420 224 922 695; e-mail: [email protected] Prague Medical Report / Vol. 111 (2010) No. 3, p. 235-238 Rohn V.; Šlais M.; Vondráček V. 236) Introduction The most common presentation of tricuspid valve regurgitation (TR) in the adult patient is secondary to cardiac valvular pathology (mostly mitral valve disease) on the left side of the heart. Hemodynamically significant TR as a late complication of percutaneous procedures in childhood is rare. Dilatation of pulmonary valve by percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty due to congenital stenosis is a safe and effective procedure, significantly reducing gradient across the affected valve and right ventricular systolic pressure The authors report the case of a 22-year-old man whom successful balloon valvuloplasty was performed in childhood. Due to chordal rupture he developed symptomatic tricuspid valve insufficiency which was treated by valve repair

Ressourceneffizienzpotenziale durch Technologien, Produkte und Strategien

    No full text

Application of the MIPS method for assessing the sustainability of production-consumption systems of food

    No full text
The article estimates the natural resource consumption due to nutrition from the supply and demand sides. Using the MIPS (Material Input per Service Unit) methodology, we analyzed the use of natural resources along the supply chains of three Italian foodstuffs: wheat, rice and orange-based products. These figures were then applied for evaluating the sustainability of diets in 13 European countries. The results outline which phases in food production are more natural resource demanding than others. We also observed different levels of sustainability in the European diets and the effect of different foodstuffs in the materials, water and air consumption. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
