    Sealing and loss of prime agricultural soils by urban and industrial development have been found to be among the main physical soil degradation processes in Sardinia where, due to limited soil resource, this phenomenon is of great concern. Since urban and industrial development are planned within the frame of Municipal Urban Plans, the purpose of this study is to bring a methodological contribution to make sound geopedological studies and to define the criteria to be followed for the sound choice of soil uses in the mentioned Plans. The proposed methodology foresees: a soil survey for making the Pedolandscapes Map, 1:10.000 scale, and the application of the Land Capability Classification system; a soil use survey for making the Soil Use Map at 1:10.000 scale; the application of the Land Suitability Evaluation system to evaluate the level of suitability of soils to the different possible uses. This methodology has been applied to the municipal territory of Monastir (southern Sardinia). The Authors believe that the proposed methodology may direct municipal urban planning towards a rational land use

    In this work, we describe a fast standardized molecular method for DNA sequencing assisted by capillary electrophoresis with a particular emphasis on bioinformatic approaches to avoid sequencing errors due to complex DNA regions. In this case, the method was applied on the human vascular adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM1) gene. VCAM1 sequence, in fact, shows many thermodynamically critical parameters such as very low GC content (30-40%), many nucleotide stack areas, i.e. hairpins, self-complementary regions. With a traditional primer design approach it was difficult to design correct PCR oligonucleotides, thus sometimes, the chromatogram showed an illegible profile. By a strategy involving various bioinformatic tools (Mfold, Oligo, Highter), we investigated the role of the DNA-folding analysis in the assistance of primer design for the DNA sequencing of fragments with high -ΔG stem-loop regions. This new approach allowed us to sequence nine different VCAM1 regions each containing the respective exon.     E' stato valutato l ́effetto dell ́integrazione di rosmarino nella dieta di pecore da latte sulla stabilità ossidativa ed il potere antiossidante del formaggio Pecorino. La somministrazione di rosmarino si è dimostrata in grado di influenzare lo stato ossidativo dei formaggi. I TBARs (Fig. 1) hanno fatto registrare valori inferiori nel gruppo R rispetto al gruppo CTR a partire da 30 giorni fino alla fine del periodo di stagionatura. Per quanto riguarda la capacità antiossidante del formaggio anch’essa è aumentata nel corso della stagionatura ed è risultata influenzata dal trattamento alimentare fin dal primo giorno

    From individual to equimolar binary transition metal diborides: The case of (Nb0.5M0.5)B2, M=Ti, Hf

    (Nb0.5Ti0.5)B2 and (Nb0.5Hf0.5)B2 in bulk form were produced by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) from powders obtained by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis. The carbothermal reduction of oxide contaminants with graphite promoted the conversion of secondary phases into equimolar diborides, and improved samples densification, particularly for (Nb0.5Hf0.5)B2 (from 89.7 % to 97.4 %). A single-phase solid solution was obtained for both systems at 2050 °C by SPS, while longer holding times (40 instead of 20 min) were needed for the Hf-containing ceramic. The latter system showed Vickers hardness (18.47 GPa) and Young's modulus (586 GPa) slightly better than HfB2. NbB2 and (Nb0.5Hf0.5)B2 were the most sensitive systems to the oxidation environment, with the formed oxide scales detached from samples at 600 and 800 °C, respectively, due to volume changes accompanying phase transitions in the generated niobium oxides. Conversely, the formation of a stable mixed oxide (TiNb2O7) made (Nb0.5Ti0.5)B2 more resistant to oxidation, compared to TiB2 and NbB2
