Rubus doyonensis Handel-Mazzetti 1933
20. Rubus doyonensis Handel-Mazzetti (1933: 487) Type (lectotype designated here):— CHINA. [Image available at https://wu.jacq.org/ WU0059387]. Note:— In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1933) cited three gathering (Handel-Mazzetti 8992, Handel-Mazzetti 8287 and Forreest 7383)” and selected “ Handel-Mazzetti 8992 ” as the type, without indicating the herbarium where the specimen was deposited. We located 5 duplicate specimens, which have been deposited in A (barcode A00040568), E (barcode E00010585), M (barcode M0214184) and WU (barcode 0059386 & 0059387). All these collections should be regarded as syntypes (Arts. 9.6, and 40 Note 1 of ICN), and the name R.doyonensis needs lectotypification (Art. 9.12 of ICN). According to Stafleu and Cowan (1979), Handel-Mazzetti’ original type material was deposited in W and WU. Hence, the specimen of “ Handel-Mazzetti 8992 ” in WU (barcode 0059387) is a perfect match to the description given in the protologue, thus, this blooming specimen selected here as the lectotype.Published as part of Idrees, Muhammad & Zhang, Zhiyong, 2022, Lectotypification of 16 names in Rubus subg. 2.4. Circaea glabrescens (Pampanini 1910: 677) Handel-Mazzetti (1933: 604). ≡ Circaea cordata Royle var. glabrescens Pamp. Lectotype (designated by Handel-Mazzetti 1933):— CHINA. Hubei: Jingmen, Tcinscian-sien (Jingshan Xian), elev. ca. 700 m, 1906, Silvestri 1571 (FI014613 digital image). Distribution: —S Hengduan, N Hengduan. Note: —This species has been misidentified as the hybrids between Circaea cordata and C. erubescens (Boufford 1982), but can be distinguish by its inconspicuous nectary.Published as part of Luo, Yike & Xie, Lei, 2023, A checklist of Onagraceae in the Pan-Himalaya region, pp. 245-268 in Phytotaxa 597 (4) on page 252, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.597.4.1, http://zenodo.org/record/795860
Rubus hemithyrsus Handel-Mazzetti 1933
24. Rubus hemithyrsus Handel-Mazzetti (1933: 488) Type (lectotype designated here):— CHINA.W-Yünnan:Auf und zwischen Sträuchern in Gebüschen der Nmaikasalwin-Kette, 26°40’, 2750-3000 m, VIII. 1919, Forrest 18348 (barcode W0131823!, isolectotype: E00010601!). [Image available at https://w.jacq.org/ W0131823]. Note:—In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1933) provided the following locality information when describing Rubus hemithyrsus: “W-Yünnan:Auf und zwischen Sträuchern in Gebüschen der Nmaika-salwin-Kette, 26°40’, 2750- 3000 m, VIII. 1919 (Forrest 18348)”.We located 4 duplicate specimens, which have been deposited in A (barcode 00040608), E (barcode 00010601), K (barcode 000737847), and W (barcode 0131823). All these collections should be regarded as syntypes (Art. 9.6 of ICN). However, the specimen of “ Forrest 18348 ” in A and K, cannot be select as lectotype, because the sheet bear the dated “1917”, but in the original protologue cited the dated “ VIII. 1919 ”. According to Stafleu and Cowan (1979), Handel-Mazzetti’ original type material was deposited in W and WU. We located original material at W and E, both of them matching the locality and date mentioned above. We designate the blooming specimen of “ Forrest 18348 ” at W (barcode 0131823), where Handel-Mazzetti worked as the lectotype, since it is morphological complete with the presence of stem, leaves, and flowers that fully correspond with the protologue.Published as part of Idrees, Muhammad & Zhang, Zhiyong, 2022, Lectotypification of 16 names in Rubus subg. Lepistemon glaber Handel-Mazzetti 1934
Lepistemon glaber Handel-Mazzetti (1934: 7). Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]: Baise [Poseh], (?Napo Xian), Baisheng Town [Bako Sha], elev. ca. 360 m, 11 September 1928, R. C. Ching 7344 (lectotype designated here, PE00029558; isolectotypes A00054665, CQNM0020751, IBSC0004740, NAS00072342, NAS00211192). = Merremia hederacea (N.L.Burman 1768: 77) H.Hallier (1893: 118). Note: —In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1934) cited a single gathering R. C. Ching 7344, but he did not specify the herbarium where the type specimen is deposited. In searching for the type material in various herbaria, six duplicates were traced from A (00054665), CQNM (0020751), IBSC (0004740), NAS (00072342), NAS (00211192) and PE (00029558). All of them are syntypes since no holotype was designated under Art. 9.6 (Turland et al. 2018). Both the duplicates at A and PE bear the field label of “Herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Academia Sinica, Nanking, China ”, which was the original title of Ching’s collection in 1928. The duplicate PE00029558 bears additional typewritten annotation “ Lepistemon chingianus Hand. -Mzt., sp. nov.” determined by Handel-Mazzetti in 1933 and seal of “type” while others stamped “isotype”. Furthermore, it is the only one bearing the identification label implying that Handel-Mazzetti has seen it before the name published. It is presumed that Handel-Mazzetti changed the specific epithet to “ glabra ” when he published the species. Therefore, the duplicate PE00029558 is here chosen as lectotype for the name.Published as part of Chen, Feng & He, Hai, 2022, The historical relics in Chongqing Natural History Museum: An annotated checklist of original materials for 37 names of Chinese seed plants, pp. 38-52 in Phytotaxa 530 (1) on page 39, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.530.1.3, http://zenodo.org/record/582393

Oreocnide kwangsiensis Handel-Mazzetti 1931
Oreocnide kwangsiensis Handel-Mazzetti (1931a: 2). Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]: Lingyun Xian [Linyen], [Bing-loo], elev. ca. 860 m, 2 August 1928, R. C. Ching 6630 (lectotype designated here, PE00023269; isolectotypes CQNM0004988, IBSC0375020, NAS00070477, PE00023270). Note:—Handel-Mazzetti (1931a) did not specify the herbarium where the type specimen was deposited. Five duplicates were traced and all of them are thus syntypes under Art. 9.6 (Turland et al. 2018). Among of them, the duplicate at PE (00023269), which Lin & Yang (2015b) indicated as “ holotype ”, bears the printed identification label with the annotation “type” and is preserved in good condition. It is therefore selected as the lectotype here.Published as part of Chen, Feng & He, Hai, 2022, The historical relics in Chongqing Natural History Museum: An annotated checklist of original materials for 37 names of Chinese seed plants, pp. 38-52 in Phytotaxa 530 (1) on page 48, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.530.1.3, http://zenodo.org/record/582393
Prunus edentata Handel-Mazzetti 1932
Prunus edentata Handel-Mazzetti (1932b: 126). Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]: Lingyun Xian [Lin-yen], [Yeo Mar Shan], elev. ca. 1450 m, 27 August 1928, R. C. Ching 7174 (lectotype designated here, NAS00358543; isolectotypes CQNM0015765, M0214796, NAS00071268, NY00429945). = Laurocerasus phaeosticta (Hance 1870: 72) C.K.Schneider (1906: 649). Note:—In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1932b) cited a single gathering R. C. Ching 7174, but he did not specify the herbarium where the type is deposited. Five duplicates are traced and all are syntypes under Art. 9.6 (Turland et al. 2018). NAS00358543 is here selected as the lectotype for it with fruits attached in a paper bag and the typewritten annotation determined by Handel-Mazzetti.Published as part of Chen, Feng & He, Hai, 2022, The historical relics in Chongqing Natural History Museum: An annotated checklist of original materials for 37 names of Chinese seed plants, pp. 38-52 in Phytotaxa 530 (1) on page 45, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.530.1.3, http://zenodo.org/record/582393
Diplopanax stachyanthus Handel-Mazzetti 1933
Diplopanax stachyanthus Handel-Mazzetti (1933: 198). Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]: Luocheng Xian [Luchen], [Bin Long, Min Shan], elev. ca. 1200 m, 14 June 1928, R. C. Ching 5969 (lectotype designated here, NAS00071983; isolectotypes A00075389, CQNM0015719, NAS00071984, NY00169046, PE01432769). Note:— In the protologue, Handel-Mazzetti (1933) cited a single gathering R. C. Ching 5969 as the type, but he did not specify the herbarium where the type specimen is deposited. Li (1942) indicated that isotypes are deposited at LU (now in SYS) and NY, but he did not indicate the herbarium where the holotype is deposited. Because he did not accept any specimen as the lectotype using the term “type” or holotype or its equivalent, Li did not achieve to designate a lectotype for the name. In search of the duplicates in various herbaria, six duplicates were traced at A, CQNM, NAS, NY and PE. The Ching’s investigation to Guangxi 1928 was supported by the Herbarium of the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History, Nanking, China and labeled as such. Among of traced duplicates, two duplicates at NAS bear typewritten identification label and it is indicated that they were identified by Handel-Mazzetti. The duplicates at PE and NY do not bear the original identification label of Handel-Mazzetti. The duplicate at A was transferred for LU in 1954. Therefore, the duplicate NAS00071983 is designated here as the lectotype due to its better condition. The duplicate at LU might be transferred to SYS (Thiers 2021), but it is not traced by the present authors.Published as part of Chen, Feng & He, Hai, 2022, The historical relics in Chongqing Natural History Museum: An annotated checklist of original materials for 37 names of Chinese seed plants, pp. 38-52 in Phytotaxa 530 (1) on page 44, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.530.1.3, http://zenodo.org/record/582393
