No full textThe recent emergence of the discipline of literary animal studies regards literature in itself as constitutive element of a history of knowledge. The discipline has led not only to the expansion of the corpus of texts traditionally connected with animals, but also established new concepts and methods for revising conventional cultural dichotomies (subject and object, human and animal). The 10 essays collected in this volume are devoted to a wide range of case studies on the relationship between animality and poetics in German-speaking literature since the 18th century. They display a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches to a number of texts packed with references to animals, considered not primarily as objects of literature, but as agents endowed with an active role in the production of literature, and which have left repressed or forgotten traces in texts

No full textThe diagnosis of andropause, currently named partial androgen deficiency of the aging male (PADAM), by the International Society for the Study of Aging Male (ISSAM), is based on the presence of clinical symptoms together with a biochemical evidence of hypogonadism. Thus, the definition of specific diagnostic criteria, both as clinical manifestations and laboratory findings, is fundamental to identify those men for whom androgen replacement therapy should be warranted. Clinical manifestations suspected to be caused by androgen deficiency are numerous (decreased libido and erectile dysfunction, decreased muscle mass and strength, decreased bone mineral density, increased fat mass, depression, fatigue, irritability, etc) and, for these, the linkage to a real hypogonadal state must be confirmed on an individual basis. In this regard, the exact list of reproductive hormones to be evaluated, for screening or for diagnosis confirmation, together with eventual dynamic endocrine test (GnRH, hCG, clomiphene, etc) must be adjusted. Furthermore, the clinician must be aware of the methods and limits of androgen assays in order to be able to specifically select, where possible, those which are validated by comparison to a "gold standard" or accepted method of measurement

No full textThe paper focuses on the phenomenon of the violence in the context of the German-speaking culture, with particular attention to the novel of Ingeborg Bachmann and to her reading of the ‘case Lenz’ in the talk delivered when she was awarded the ‘Büchner-Preis’. Starting from her interpretation of Lenz’ psychological collapse as an ‘accident’, the article investigates some ‘topoi’ of the novel Der Fall Franza, dealing with the rape and with the suicide of the protagonist, intended as a collateral effect of a ‘damaged life’ (the phrase refers to the meaning Adorno gave to it). In the novel of Bachmann the violence assumes different forms: colonialist violence, gender violence, specist violence, psychological violence, individual and collective violence, and cultural violence
La questione estetica nella filosofia di Theodor Wiesengrund Adorno
Full text linkIl seguente lavoro si presenta come una indagine sulla relazione tra "negatività" e "possibilità" nella filosofia di Adorno, e a partire da essa. Sforzo della ricerca, è stato quello di rendere conto della radicale "inattualità" che accompagna il "possibile" come tale, seguendone il differenziato dispiegamento sul piano teoretico, estetico e linguistico. Soffermarsi e insistere sul carattere irresolubile della "potenza" e della "contingenza" significa cogliere in modo rigoroso il luogo denso di "paradossi" della "dialettica negativa" adorniana, tentando faticosamente di delineare, di volta in volta, lo spazio indeterminabile in cui si rende possibile l'elaborazione di nuove forme di appropriazione della vita e configurazione del senso. Come, per Adorno, l'opera d'arte palesa esemplarmente, il fare, il dire e l'agire umani non esauriscono mail il "possibile" che ovunque li attornia. Articolare questa impossibilità di compimento e traduzione esaustiva è uno dei tratti peculiari della riflessione adorniana e del ruolo protagonista che la dimensione estetica svolge in essa. A partire da tale "grammatica del possibile", l' "utopia" di questo esercizio di pensiero coincide con il tentativo indefesso di restituire questo duraturo "non-ancora" insito nel nostro fare e parlare, incuneato nella relazione negativo-differenziale che divide e articola a un tempo il linguaggio e il mondo, il dicibile e il sensibile, il divario incolmabile tra espressione linguistica e esperienza sensibile
