    Optimization of blending parameters and fiber size of kenaf-bast-fiber-reinforced the thermoplastic polyurethane composites by Taguchi method.

    “Kenaf-fibers- (KF-)” reinforced “thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)” composites were prepared by the melt-blending method followed by compression molding. Composite specimens were cut from the sheets that were prepared by compression molding. The criteria of optimization were testing the specimens by tensile test and comparing the ultimate tensile strength. The aim of this study is to optimize processing parameters (e.g., processing temperature, time, and speed) and fiber size using the Taguchi approach. These four parameters were investigated in three levels each. The L9 orthogonal array was used based on the number of parameters and levels that has been selected. Furthermore, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the significance of different parameters. The results showed that the optimum values were 180°C, 50 rpm, 13 min, and 125–300 micron for processing temperature, processing speed, processing time, and fiber size, respectively. Using ANOVA, processing temperature showed the highest significance value followed by fiber size. Processing time and speed did not show any significance on the optimization of TPU/KF

    Processability of wood fibre-filled thermoplastic composite thin-walled parts using injection moulding

    A review of research on injection-moulded wood fibre-filled thermoplastic composites is presented in this chapter. Brief description of injection-moulding compounding process (including drying and mixing and extrusion) as well as injection-moulding process itself is als presented. A review on wood fibre- reinforced thermoplastic composites is also reported. An in-depth discussion is presented on thin-part moulding and the formation of residual stresses, volumetric shrinkage and warpage using injection moulding for composite products. Simulation work and statistical analysis related to the topic are also reviewed. Finally, some ideas about further research on wood-filled thermoplastic composite are proposed

    Numerical Simulation Analysis of Unfilled and Filled Reinforced Polypropylene on Thin-Walled Parts Formed Using the Injection-Moulding Process

    Thin-walled moulding technology has attracted increasing attention, particularly in electronic packing applications. The injection moulding of shallow, thin-walled parts with a thickness of 0.7 mm was performed using three types of materials from polypropylene, PP (PP, PP + 50 wt% wood composite, and PP + 10 wt% glass fibre composite). The highest deflection resulting from PP + 50 wt% wood does not occur in the critical area of the thin-walled part compared with PP + 10 wt% glass fibre. In addition, the results revealed that the warpage at the midpoint of the part surface injected using PP + 50 wt% wood is 0.04 mm lower than the value of 0.08 mm obtained when injected using PP + 10 wt% glass fibre. The warpage was hypothesised to result from the residual stress caused by nonuniform volumetric shrinkages formed during the solidification phase

    Energy behavior assessment of rice husk fibres reinforced polymer composite

    Natural fibre composites, possess characteristics that are beneficial towards the environment and ecosystem, completely biodegradable, renewable, offer strength and reliability of the material properties, and enhance economic development because of its ability in replacing synthetic composites. One of them refers to rice husk, which is a non-timber source that is easily available from agricultural wastes. Hence, rice husk fibres were selected as fibre-reinforced composites, while polypropylene as matrices in this research. Rice husk composite (RHC) specimens were produced via injection molding process. The composite composition was fixed at 35% of fibre content. The cycle tests were conducted to obtain cyclic properties by adhering to specifications outlined in ASTM D3479. Servo-hydraulic machines were used for five different stresses with constant amplitudes of R = 0.1, R = 0.3, and R = 0.5 of S75, S80, S85, S90, and S95 to determine the stress effects on energy dissipation and fatigue life of the material. The results indicated that there was increment in energy loss for the increasing fatigue life in every cycle. This shows that with the addition of natural fibres in composites, the material exhibited viscoelastic behaviour, in which energy loss was represented by matrix cracks and broken fibres

    Automation of order costing analysis by using Visual Basic for applications in Microsoft Excel

    [EN] In the modern world of technologies (sciences of arts), optimum operation time is the prime consideration. Technologies with greater operation time are needed to be modified or replaced as per the requirement of the current scenario. In small and medium enterprises of developing countries, almost all the reporting activities are conducted in Microsoft Excel. The manual operation in Microsoft Excel takes a long time (17.37 minutes, only if there was one order of only one article with one color) of the users; furthermore, there can also be a greater chance of error in the report. In the same way, the order costing report at the ABC footwear company of Lahore is prepared manually in Microsoft Excel which used to take a long time to be prepared along with the greater probability of errors in the report. Because of the above-mentioned reasons, the order costing report was decided to be automated with the help of visual basic for applications (VBA) in Microsoft Excel. The manual procedure including all the activities was collected from the planning and costing department of ABC Company. Moreover, all the activities were listed down and their time study was conducted. VBA macros were programmed with the objectives of automating all the manual tasks of the order costing report in Microsoft Excel and eliminating the chance of error (calculation error made by the employee). Macros, were programmed by the use of conditional statements, (i.e. if and else conditions) and various types of loops, (i.e. Do while loop and for loop). Automated decisions were made with the help of conditional statements during the operation and the conditional statements were circulated with the help of loops across the whole worksheet. Two userforms were designed for the execution of macros by the click of command buttons (having macros at their back). Total eight worksheets were incorporated into the automated template. All the programmed VBA macros were explained with the help of flowcharts made in the Microsoft Visio. After the report was automated, a time study of operations performed after each click was conducted with the help of stop watch. The data obtained by the time study was entered into Microsoft Excel so that the time of old and suggested methods could be compared. Comparison of both methods indicated that the suggested method took 85.92% less time as compared to the old method of preparing the order costing report.     Automation of Post-Order Costing Analysis by Using Visual Basic for Applications In Microsoft Excel: a Case Study

    [EN] Microsoft Excel is used to carry out reporting tasks in small and medium companies across the globe. Most people make reports manually in Microsoft Excel and the manual work takes a tremendous amount of time. The manual work can be easily automated with some effort in Microsoft Excel. This research is about the automation of report that was used to be made manually in Microsoft Excel.The present research is an extension of the previously conducted research (Kalwar, Shahzad, et al., 2022). The manual process to make the post-order costing analysis report in MS excel requires a lot of user time (22.80 minutes, just if there is a single order of only one article with one color), with the greater possibility of human error. Employees in an anonymous footwear company in Lahore used to generate the post-order costing report manually in Excel.Due to the above-mentioned reasons, it was proposedto automate the report using visual basic for applications (VBA) in Microsoft Excel.The planning and costing departmentof the company provided every single step required to make the report manually. A time study was conducted for each step of report preparation using the stopwatch. VBA macros were programmed for automating all manual report-related processes in Excel and the accuracy of the report was also verified. After the report was automated, the time study was again conducted to measure the execution time after each click.
