CLEVER: A cloud middleware beyond the federation

    No full text
This chapter describes both the design and architecture of the CLEVER cloud middleware, pointing out the possibilities it offers towards enlarging the concept of federation in more directions. CLEVER is able to accomplish such an enlargement enabling the interaction among whatever type of electronic device connected to Internet, thus offering the opportunity of implementing the Internet of Things. Together with this type of perspective, CLEVER aims to “aggregate” heterogeneous computing infrastructure by putting together Cloud and Grid, as an example. The chapter starts with a description of the cloud projects related to CLEVER, followed by a discussion on the middleware components that mainly focuses on the innovative features they have, in particular the communication mechanisms adopted. The second part of the chapter presents a real use case that exploits the CLEVER features that allow easy creation of federated clouds’ infrastructures that can be also based on integration with existing Grids; it is demonstrated thanks to the “oneshot” CLEVER deploying mechanism. It is possible to scale dynamically the cloud resources by taking advantage of the existing Grid infrastructures, and minimizing the changes needed at the involved management middleware

    CLEVER: A cloud-enabled virtual environment

    No full text
A cloud-enabled virtual environment called CLEVER is proposed in this paper. CLEVER simplifies the access management of private/hybrid clouds and provides simple and easily accessible interfaces to interact with different “interconnected” clouds, deploy Virtual Machines and perform load balancing through migration. The concept of interface is also exploited for integrating security, contextualization, VM disk image management and federation functionalities made available from higher level software components. Due to its pluggable design, CLEVER is able to grant high scalability, modularity and flexibility in the middleware architecture, while fault tolerance requirements are also satisfied. A prototype version of CLEVER has been developed to implement and test its main features, as discussed in the final part the paper

CLEVER: A cloud cross-computing platform leveraging GRID resources

    No full text
Nowadays the Cloud is becoming an interesting distributed computing paradigm, able to strongly leverage the concept of Virtualization of physical resources. This paper deals with the opportunity to manage Virtualization Infrastructures in Federated scenarios exploiting GRID resources. In particular, the middleware we are introducing, named CLEVER, presents several features enabling an useful and easy management of private/hybrid clouds. In this scenario even GRID middle wares may benefit of CLEVER advanced features, thanks to its simple and easy accessible interfaces that enable to interact with different "interconnected" clouds. The integration of any GRID middleware with CLEVER allows administrators to easily setup a cloud infrastructure for a quick provisioning of IaaS Services on GRIDs

How to exploit grid infrastructures for federated cloud purposes with CLEVER

    No full text
Cloud computing is rapidly becoming a valuable computing infrastructure, strongly leveraging the concept of virtualisation of physical resources. This paper deals with virtualised infrastructures in federated scenarios, assuming grid resources. In particular, our CLEVER cloud middleware presents several features to easily manage private/hybrid clouds. Grid middleware may benefit from CLEVER advanced features as it offers simple and easy accessible interfaces to interact with different ‘interconnected’ computing infrastructures. The integration of any grid middleware with CLEVER enables administrators to easily setup a cloud infrastructure for a quick provisioning of IaaS on grid

Il Progetto IM-CLeVeR: Intrinsecally Motivated Cumulative Learning Versatile Robots

    No full text
