No full textThis volume collects the proceedings of the 8th Italian Conference on Scandinavian Studies, held on 11th-13th November 2009 at the University of Milan. In the section The use of history in Nordic literatures, eighteen papers study the rewrite of history in Scandinavian literatures, from Romantic “nation-building” through historical dramas and novels down to Modernist and Postmodernist narratives scrutinizing the relation between facts and their written account as well as the individual’s position in history. In the section The Nordic languages between past and present nine articles analyse the relationships between the Scandinavian languages and their context, also considering language teaching issues. Sociolinguistic aspects and language policy show how the discourse on language gives a society the chance to reflect and debate on the “self” and on its own cultural system

No full textInizialmente il saggio contestualizza la produzione letteraria, saggistica e giornalistica di Cordelia Edvardson, autrice svedese di origine tedesca nata nel 1929. La “letteratura della Shoah” ha riguardato e riguarda sempre più la Svezia e la Scandinavia, specialmente grazie a voci femminili, sebbene le tragedie del secondo conflitto mondiale e la “soluzione finale” abbiano toccato più marginalmente i paesi nordici. L’analisi testuale specifica è dedicata al capolavoro di Edvardson, l’autobiografia Bränt barn söker sig till elden (Bambina bruciata cerca il fuoco; ed. it. La principessa delle ombre) del 1984. Il doloroso recupero della memoria rimossa e indicibile – l’essere finita ad Auschwitz, l’essere stata scritturale di Mengele, nella “zona grigia” descritta da Primo Levi, l’essere infine sopravvissuta e avere trovato la salvezza in Svezia – si arricchisce di una lacerante dimensione privata e, anche, meta-letteraria. Cordelia è infatti figlia della scrittrice tedesca Elisabeth Langgässer, che si salvò dalla soluzione finale in quanto ebrea “solo” per metà e sposata con un tedesco “ariano”, mentre la figlia, nata da una precedente relazione con un compagno ebreo, dovette partire per i campi di sterminio. La Langgässer chiuse gli occhi dinanzi all’ascesa del nazismo e non poté fare nulla per salvare la figlia. Oltraggio peggiore, usò le esperienze della figlia sopravvissuta nella sua rielaborazione letteraria postbellica degli orrori razziali, letti alla luce di una teodicea cristiana ormai inaccettabile per la figlia. La narrazione dolorosamente frammentaria è, comunque, anche un processo di oggettivazione e “integrazione” del trauma concentrazionario – un modo per ricomporre l’unità del soggetto e ribadire il legame affettivo inscindibile con la problematica figura materna
