An empirical study of the relations between leadership, social support networks, task autonomy and emotions in a technical work environment

The world in which we live is hyper-dynamic with multiple inputs, outputs and expectations. As it relates to the fast pace of corporate America, customers want products and services within a tighter market window, with no defects and for lower costs. Stakeholders insist that managers do more with less human and financial resources yet more aggressive technological and sales goals. These realities translate into a more complex work environment in that the emotional toll of pending economic outcomes act to motivate or paralyze the very engine designed to produce the desired outcomes the employees. The body of work presented in this dissertation directly addresses the empirical relationship between the perceptions of the work context factors of leadership, task autonomy and social support networks with respect to the positive and negative emotions of the employees of the engineering firm that participated in this study. The empirical results from this research indicate that a positive and significant interrelationship does exist among the factors examined in this study. The employees studied included 249 middle to upper level managers of whom 78.7% were men and 21.3% were women. The range of years of experience for the participants varied from new hire to more than 20 years. Homogeneity of Variance tests confirms the validity of comparative analysis for the segmented data population. Multivariate statistics were used to address the four research questions. The strongest correlations occurred for the subgroups of women and non-managers with respect to the relationship of social support networks and positive emotions. Until now, there has been no empirical research linking the social support networks factor directly to emotions

    Little Millet

    No full text
Little millet (Panicum sumatrense) is an important crop of the Poaceae family, originating from India, and is predominantly cultivated in marginal soils with minimal input. This crop is highly nutritious and resilient to climate change, offering substantial potential to bolster food and nutrition security. Two cultivated races of little millet are nana and robusta. A considerable variability has been conserved in various gene banks. Utilizing this diversity is crucial for crop improvement. Improved little millet genotypes are developed through primary selection from landraces, while hybridization techniques are currently being explored for the new varieties development and release. Evaluating germplasm for different traits and employing genomic tools could expedite the development of improved cultivars that are high-yielding, nutrient-rich, and stress-tolerant. Phenotypic evaluation of landraces for various traits and use of genomic tools could accelerate the development of improved cultivars with high yield, nutrient density, and stress tolerance. Little millet may play a significant role in food security as the need for nutrient-dense and climate-adaptive crops grows globally. However, greater consumer awareness, regulatory support, and targeted breeding techniques are required for wider adoption. Highlight of this chapter is a comprehensive view on the significance of little millet as a nutritious food, along with its origin, history, genetic resources, breeding, genomics, cropping system, value addition, etc. Such insights will assist researchers in developing high-performing genotypes with enhanced tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, as well as in leveraging advanced genomic tools for this underutilized crop

Literature Review and Auto Ethnographic Research

The purpose of this article is to look at the academic achievement gap between black and white students. The author analyzed a school in the Ohio area that prides itself on the excellence of its school system however the black students that school \u27lag\u27 significantly behind that of their white peers. The author states that the so called liberal interpretation of is that this gap is the result of economic disparities between the two ethnic communities that can be traced back to the legacy of slavery and other forms of oppression. (p.10) The so called conservative view is that economic factors are NOT the cause of the gap because some Asians that are economically worse off than African Americans excel in school. (p.10) The author believes that this is a shallow analysis and the achievement gap is very serious and analyses like these cause more harm than good because they make people choose between two unsavory options. The author believes that the problem is not hopeless; researchers must start looking at the problem in new and deep ways and avoid the temptation to seek simplistic one-shot solutions
