No full textL’autore sviluppa una versione critica del concetto di Governance: in particolare, focalizza l’attenzione sul nesso concettuale tra Stato e Governance da cui trarre indicazioni sui limiti del meccanismo della Governance. La dialettica Stato-Governance è applicata a due scenari specifici: lo scenario internazionale e lo scenario della teoria del potere. Nel primo, l’autore utilizza lo Stato-nazione come chiave concettuale privilegiata per comprendere i fallimenti della Governance globale; nel secondo, introducendo una versione bourdesiana di Stato, come detentore del potere simbolico, intende, da un lato, far emergere una prospettiva inedita del concetto di Stato, all’altro, fare della categoria di potere simbolico uno strumento in grado di svelare i rischi autoritari sottesi ai processi di Governance. L’autore conclude con una breve analisi dei rapporti tra la Governance e il concetto foucaultiano di Governamentalità, una prospettiva teorica utile nella misura in cui consente di chiarire la riorganizzazione e ricollocazione del potere nelle società complesse.The Author develops a critical perspective of the concept of Governance: in particular, focuses on the conceptual relationship between Nation State and Governance in order to show the limits of Governance processes. The dialectic of State Governance is applied to both the international scenario and the scenario of the theory of power. In the first, the Author utilizes the concept of Nation State as a key to understanding the failures of Global Governance. In the second scenario, introduces a Bourdieusian view of State as the holder of symbolic power, with the intention to bring out a new perspective on the concept of State and to make the concept of Symbolic Power a tool capable of revealing the authoritarian risks underlying the processes of Governance. The Author concludes with a brief analysis of the relationship between Governance and Foucault’s concept of Governmentality, the latter being useful in clarifying the reorganization and relocation of power in complex societies
A gluing formula for Reidemeister–Turaev torsion
No full textWe extend Turaev’s theory of Euler structures and torsion invariants on a 3-manifold M to the case of vector fields having generic behavior on ∂M. This allows to easily define gluings of Euler structures and to develop a completely general gluing formula for Reidemeister torsion of 3-manifolds. Lastly, we describe a combinatorial presentation of Euler structures via stream-spines, as a tool to effectively compute torsion
Cruise report: SICILY09
No full textIn this report we present all activities realised during the oceanographic cruise named SICILY09, carried out from October 30th November 23rd 2009, on board the R/V URANIA in the central and western Mediterranean basins. CTD, SADCP, LADCP, marine microbic microbiology and baxo corers have been carried on for the following objectives: 1. Water masses characteristics and biological structures from the definition of the main paths of the circulation and the physicalchemical-biological properties (temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, chlorophyll, phytoplankton, primary production, etc) of the water upper, intermediate and deep central (Sicily Strait) and western (Tyrrhenian sea, Sardinia Channel) Mediterranean water masses. Check of the diffusion of the new deep waters found during a cruise in 2005 in the same areas; 2. Validation of numerical models by measurements used to validate four numerical circulation models implemented at IAMC-CNR in Oristano (SCRM32, SCRM48, WMRM, BONIFACIO/LA MADDALENA) and at ISMAR-CNR in La Spezia (box model); 3. Methodological developments • Measurements of velocity profiles by Lowered ADCP; • Periodical maintenance of currentmeters moored in the Sicily Strait and Corsica Channel; • Comparison of different methods for the quantification of Chlorophyll and calibration of the fluorometer coupled with the multiparametric probe through several photochemical techniques
