AuTA: Automatic teaching assistant
Due to the dramatic increase in enrollments in the TU Delft Bachelor of ComputerScience, the workload for teaching assistants and instructors has skyrocketed. Toreduce this workload, automated tools can be used to make the grading process easier. This paper describes the development of AuTA (Automatic Teaching Assistant), a tool that will help instructors and teaching assistants analyze and grade programming assignments and provide useful feedback to the student.Labrado
Expression and function of striatal nAChRs differ in the flinders sensitive (FSL) and resistant (FRL) rat lines
Rats of Flinders Sensitive (FSL) and Flinders Resistant lines (FRL) differ in their susceptibility to physiological and associated behavioral responses elicited by nicotine. In the present study, we measured dopamine (DA) content in striatal dialysates to investigate the sensitivity of FSL and FRL rats to nicotine delivered locally through a microdialysis probe placed in the striatum. We also measured the expression density of striatal high-affinity nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs), and that of mRNAs encoding for alpha3, alpha4, alpha7 and beta2 nAChR subunits in both lines. The DA content of dialysates was measured before and after a 1-min perfusion of nicotine (6, 10 or 20 nmoles/min) and the resulting DA increase was taken as a measure of the alkaloid's intrinsic activity for nAChRs involved in the release of DA. The nicotine-induced increase of striatal DA release was greater in FSL than in FRL rats for all concentrations of nicotine, suggesting that the intrinsic activity of nicotine was greater in the FSL than in the FRL rats. This was further supported by our finding that the density of high-affinity nAChRs in the striatum of FSL rats was 44% greater than in the FRL rats, whereas affinity (K-D) was virtually the same in the two lines of rats. Also the expression of mRNAs encoding for alpha (4), alpha (7), and beta (2) subunits in the striatum was greater in FSL than in FRL rats (attomol/mug total RNA, alpha (4):98+/-10 vs 77+/-7; alpha (7):279+/-16 vs 184+/-16; beta (2):310+/-19 vs 201+/-12). We hypothesize that the difference in nicotine-induced DA release in the striatum of FSL and FRL rats depends on the difference in nAChR subunit expression in the striatum between the two lines. The Flinders rats could be used as a model for nicotine self-administration studies to evaluate the susceptibilities of FSL and FRL rats to nicotine dependence
A study of the works of Juan De Flores, with a critical edition of La Historia de Grisel y Mirabella
PhDMy thesis is intended to throw new light on the
biography of the late-fifteenth-century writer Juan de
Flores and to elucidate various aspects of his role in
the development of the Spanish sentimental romance. To
this end, I have prepared a critical edition of his
romance La hiatQri. a sie Gr i. Bel y Mirak-elle (ca. 1480) in
the three distinct versions in which it is known to have
circulated: (1) an original text (preserved in MS
5-3-20, Biblioteca Colombina, Seville, fos. 69r-86r),
(2) a revised version (preserved in MS 940, Biblioteca
Trivulziana, Milan, fos. 1r-76v), and (3) a second
revision, probably anonymous (preserved in the eight
extant printed editions, which range in date from ca.
1495 to 1562). The edition contains a full corpus of
variants for the printed witnesses, along with
linguistic, exegetical and textual notes. Accompanying
this edition is a textual study (Chapter 3) in which I
establish the relationship to one another of the
surviving witnesses and discuss in detail the work's
genesis. The remaining chapters concern the attribution
to Flores of two works hitherto regarded as anonymous.
In Chapter 1, I argue that the known as La
==na-WQn da la zel a GTaniBla is modelled on GI, 1, Bgl y
Mirabelle, and I adduce stylistic and other
circumstantial evidence to show that Flores is probably
-2-
its author. Employing a similar methodology, I
demonstrate in Chapter 2 that Flores can be identified
as a royal chronicler to the Catholic Monarchs and
author of the GjQai-Qa i. nQQIp1at de 14a Ray! aa Qat4j
-Q4a"
Drawing on information in the chronicle, I provide a
plausible reconstruction of his life at the ducal court
of Alba and illustrate the importance of his
historiographic work for our understanding of his
fictional output. This thesis provides a revaluation of
Juan de Flores as a far more prolific, versatile and
influential author than has previously been recognized
Combating A36 mild steel corrosion in 1 M H2SO4 medium using watermelon seed oil inhibitor
Corrosion inhibitive performance of the extracted watermelon seed oil on A36 mild steel in 1 M H2SO4 medium, at 305 and 319 K corrosion reaction temperatures, was investigated. Weight loss and inhibition efficiency were determined using gravimetric method while corrosion rate and inhibitoion efficiency were evaluated using potentiodynamic tests. Gravimetric tests showed that watermelon seed oil inhibitor attained a better corrosion inhibition efficiency of 50% at the operating temperature of 305 K compared to an efficiency of 48% obtained at the operating temperature of 319 K. Electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization tests showed that 3 vol/vol% inhibitor concentration gave the most promising corrosion inhibiting results at the operating temperature of 305 K, while 4 vol/vol% inhibitor concentration gave the most reliable corrosion resisting one at the operating temperature of 319 K. Langmuir adsorption isotherm correctly predicted the adsorption behaviour of the watermelon seed oil on A36 mild steel surface in 1 M H2SO4 medium. the negative values of ΔGads revealed the spontaneous adsorption nature of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface and the electrochemical potentiodynamic polarization results showed that the watermelon seed oil acted as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor. The optical image analysis revealed both the potency level of watermelon seed oil as an inhibitor as well as the optimum inhibitor concentrations of 3 vol/vol% (at 305 K) and 4 vol/vol% (at 319 K)

Development and characterization of hydrocarbon adsorbent from nylon and used tyre
Raw materials obtained from a local market were used for the production of potential adsorbent. The materials were subjected to preliminary carbonization in a furnace at a controlled temperature in an inert atmosphere and chemical activation was carried out on the carbonized sample. Nylon and used tyre were characterized. Reference carbon was also used to compare the surface area of nylon and tyre. The surface areas of the experimental carbon were compared with that of commercial activated carbon of known surface area (1200m2/g). The surface area of the used tyre (954m2/g) has the bestadsorptive property which is very close to that of reference carbon. Keywords: Activated Carbon, Carbonization, Hydrocarbon adsorbent, Nylon, and Used tyre
Mapping of Road Marking and Localization of F1/10 Autonomous Car Using a Camera
Pomocı́ existujı́cı́ho řešenı́ 2D SLAMu (Cartographer; určené pro řešenı́ SLAMu s použitı́m LIDARu) náš systém vytvářı́ globálnı́ mapu z nahromaděných lokálnı́ch fragmentů a následně v nı́ lokalizuje aktuálnı́ pozici auta. 2D SLAM použı́vá modernı́ algoritmy párovánı́ skenů a uzavı́ránı́ smyček k tvorbě konzistentnı́ globálnı́ mapy. V této práci zkoumáme možné přı́činy těchto problémů a navrhujeme jejich řešenı́.This thesis focuses on building a navigation system for an autonomous vehicle in an unknown environment. We use a single monocular camera as a primary sensor input. We build a system for detection of road lane markings from individual camera images. We then use these detected markings as landmarks for building a map fragment of the currently perceived surroundings. To create a global map and localise within it, we use an existing 2D LIDAR-based SLAM solution (Cartographer), which employs modern scan matching and loop closure algorithms. We build the whole system for Robotic Operating System (ROS) and verify the solution on various experimental tracks using a scaled-down model of a car called F1/10. In the scenario with low speed and low track complexity, the localisation shows accurate results (mean position error of 0.14 m) and loop closure manages to build an accurate and consistent map. However, the results show that the performance quickly deteriorates with a higher speed and a higher track complexity. We suggest possible causes and solutions
