    Estuaries are dynamic environments with respect to metal speciation, as many of the physicochemical parameters that affect metal equilibria are subject to change as fresh and marine waters mix. pH, hardness, dissolved organic matter concentration, and ionic strength will all significantly affect the partitioning of copper within and between solid and solution phases. Heavy metals have been present in nature for many years, but their toxicity is increasing as a result of anthropogenic activities. There is an increase in heavy metal contamination in many inland waters as well as estuarine ecosystems nowadays. The aim of the present study is to evaluate seasonal variation in some selected heavy metal concentrations in the Nandalar estuary on the east coast of Tamil Nadu, India, during the 2020 to 2021 period. The monsoon season saw the highest appearance of followed the order of Cu (0.043mg/L) > Cr (0.027mg/L) > Zn (0.024mg/L) > Pb (0.023mg/L) > Ni (0.012mg/L) > Cd (0.007mg/L) > Hg (>0.00001mg/L) metals compared with the pre and post monsoon seasons, while present metals were higher than the Fisheries and aquatic life standard reference value. Overall, the metal of Cu (0.032 to 0.043 mg/L) was the higher concentration found to be in the Nandalar estuary.     Effect of onion and garlic peel mix fertilizer on growth and yield of lettuce (lactuca sativa)

    The study was carried out at Agriculture research station, Seetha Eliya, from February to May 2022 to find the effect of red onion peel and garlic peel fertilizer mixture on the growth and yield performance of lettuce. The pot experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with nine treatment and four replicates. Powder forms of onion and garlic peel fertilizer were used in the 1:1 weight ratio. Nine different powder mixture; T1 (control) – only ½ recommended compost, T2 – ½ recommended compost + 2g powder, T3- ½ recommended compost + 4g powder, T4 – ½ recommended compost + 6g powder, T5 – ½ recommended compost + 8g powder, T6 – only 2g powder, T7 – only 4g powder, T8 – only 6g powder, T9 – only 8g powder were used. Powder form was applied as basal and after 1st and 3rd weeks from transplanting. Plant growth parameters; leaf length, width, plant height, number of plant and yield were measured. Data were analyzed in ANOVA one way method using Minitab software. Among all nine treatments, T2 was showed significantly better fresh weight (324.79±14.03) and number of leaves (24.00±1.00) than others. T3, T4, T5 were showed good growth and yield performance. Therefore, onion garlic peel fertilizer improved lettuce yield. The use of organic onion garlic peel fertilizer mixture used as a plant growth booster is inexpensive, environmentally safe, and low-cost technology to improve the yields of small farmers

    El municipio de Samacá (Boyacá) constituye una importante zona en la extracción de carbón y producción de coque en Colombia. Un estudio realizado por la Universidad Santo Tomás Tunja, mediante un sistema de monitoreo continuo, ha identificado durante un periodo anual la presencia de concentraciones elevadas de metales pesados (arsénico, aluminio, hierro y cadmio) en aguas residuales de la región. Las concentraciones encontradas superan los limiten máximos permisibles establecidos por la Resolución 2115 de 2007, lo que representa un riesgo ambiental y sanitario considerable. Esta investigación propone el desarrollo de membranas filtrantes de alto rendimiento fabricadas mediante la técnica de electrohilado, utilizando una matriz compuesta de PVDF/PLA funcionalizada con oxido de grafeno. La integración de la nanopartícula de óxido de grafeno en la estructura polimérica confiere propiedades fisicoquímicas superiores, incluyendo una arquitectura microporosa optimizada y una distribución homogénea de grupos funcionales oxigenados con alta afinidad hacia iones metálicos. La membrana diseñada presenta características estructurales optimizadas (alta porosidad, superficie especifica elevada y distribución uniforme de sitios de adsorción) que facilitan la interacción entre los grupos funcionales oxigenados del OG y los cationes férricos, mediante mecanismos de adsorción superficial.This research proposes an alternative for water filtration through the design of a polymeric membrane elaborated with the electrospinning technique and using polymers polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and poly (lactic acid) (PLA) functionalized with graphene oxide (GO) to adsorb iron cations. It is expected to obtain a polymeric membrane with high porosity, contact surface area and electrostatic interaction between the oxygenated functional groups of the OG and the metal ion, properties that allow obtaining a high percentage of iron adsorption. This proposal arises from the need to decontaminate industrial wastewater, which has a negative impact on the environment. The municipality of Samacá (Boyacá) is an important coal and coke production area. A study carried out by the Universidad Santo Tomás Tunja through a community platform for monitoring water quality in this region reported for one consecutive year the presence of heavy metals such as arsenic, aluminum, iron and cadmium in wastewater. The amounts reported are higher than the permissible limit according to Resolution 2115 of 2007.
