Assessment of permeability and injection depth at the Atasu dam site (Turkey) based on experimental and numerical analyses

    No full text
This study was performed in order to evaluate the permeability of the basalts and pyroclastics and the maximum depth of grout injection at the Atasu dam site, Turkey, using the equations of Kiraly and Hoek and Bray based on values obtained from Lugeon tests. In order to evaluate maximum discharge values and depth of injection, seepage analyses were performed using the finite element technique for each 10 m up to 100 m. The results indicate that to establish an impermeable zone at the dam site, the depth of injection should be taken as 50 m for the left and right slopes and 40 m for the river bed.WOS:0003057074000032-s2.0-8485910855

The effects of land use type on soil erodibilty indices in Galyan-Atasu Dam Watershed, Trabzon, N.E. Turkey

Erodibility indices together with other soil properties of Atasu Dam watershed in Trabzon, Turkey, were analyzed according to land use regimes (grassland, cultivated land, coniferous forest land and broadleaf forest land) and the granite parent material from which the soil develops. The findings could be applied to future management plans with the aim of enhancing the ability of Atasu Dam to supply water for drinking, domestic use and irrigation to the region. Forty sample plots having the same northern aspect were selected from bordering lands. Cross-section soil samples from depth levels of 0-10 cm and 10-30 cm were gathered from the selected sites. Particle size distribution, soil organic matter (SOM), dispersion ratio (DR), erosion ratio (ER), colloid-moisture equivalent ratio (C-MER), structural stability index (SSI), water dispersible clay (WDC), clay dispersion ratio (CDR), clay flocculation index (CFI), exchangeable cations, exchangeable sodium ratio (ESR), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and soil reaction (pH) analyses were performed. A variance analysis was carried out in order to determine if the obtained results varied according to land use type. Soil samples from a variety of sites in areas with granite as parent material were applied to erodibility indices and the sites were found to be susceptible to erosion. Some other characteristics were also found to be effective on the erodibility indices, including the relationship of soil organics, which was also considered to be to a factor of interest in this study. Soils that were developed from granite parent material in areas covered by forest were observed to be more susceptible to erosion. These results were fairly significant in the context of the study area of the Galyan-Atasu Dam watershed. This study suggests that incorporating these findings in planning and management-related activities can potentially lead to improvement of the basin and contribute to the economic life of the dam.2-s2.0-8493015025

“The project of a century” was called a construction in 2005 of the main pipeline of Atasu-Alashankou. The Kazakhstan-Chinese pipeline was founded by JSC KazTransOil and CNPC became the customer and the owner of the pipeline. Extent of the oil pipeline of Atasu-Alashankou made about 962,2 km. From them 960 km in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 2,2 km in the territory of the People’s Republic of China. For today, considering successful experience of construction of the oil pipeline of Atasu-Alashankou, Kazakhstan and China intend to work and realize new breakthrough projects. Demonstration of intentions of long-term cooperation of both countries is signing “Agreements on the basic principles of construction of the second stage of the oil pipeline Kazakhstan-China between JSC Oil Company KazMunaiGas and the Chinese National Oil Company”. This document showed sharp interest of Astana and Beijing in activization of bilateral energy cooperation.Kazakhstan party plans construction Kenkiyak-Kumkol that becomes touch-up in connection of already existing oil pipelines of Kenkiyak-Atyrau, Kumkol-Atasu, Atasu-Alashankou, and creation of an uniform power transport corridor which will allow to transport oil from fields of the western and central Kazakhstan in the direction in the People’s Republic of China

Dermatoglyphic findings in dental caries: a preliminary report

    No full text
The dermatoglyphs of caries-free students and the students with dental caries in 10 or more teeth were compared. The caries-free students had an increased frequency of ulnar loops on all fingers. In contrast, the students with dental caries had an increased frequency of whorls on all fingers

Bilateral absence of maxillary and mandibular second premolars: a clinical, genetic and dermatoglyphic study

    No full text
In the report presented here the mode of inheritance pattern of absence of maxillary and mandibular second premolars will be investigated by pedigree analyses and dermatoglyphic studies of a patient who showed the trait and his family members. An 11-year-old male patient with caries with bilateral absence of maxillary and mandibular second premolars was observed. Most of the dermatoglyphic traits observed in the patient were also found in the father and the sister of the patient
