MTPJ Motion and Lower Limb Loadings during Ballet Jump Landings
Introduction: Overuse injuries are an issue within ballet dance, where plantar fasciitis is one. However, research of the biomechanical risk factors, which can cause plantar fasciitis during ballet jump landings, is sparse. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to 1) investigate the MTPJ motion and lower limb loadings during different ballet jump landings and 2) suggest alternative implementations during ballet jump landings to prevent the occurrence of plantar fasciitis. Methods: Four ballet dancers participated in the present study. The dancers performed multiple Sautés in First Position, Relevés Sur le Cou-de-Pied Derriere, Grand Jeté, and Grand Pas de Chat jump landings on a force platform. The participants wore foot thongs, while a three-segment kinematic model of the foot and shank was used to provide a more detailed understanding of the metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) and ankle joint postures during landings. Results: The results indicate high vertical ground reaction force (vGRF) peaks during the Grand Jeté and Grand Pas de Chat landings. The highest negative ankle power peaks are registered during the Grand Pas de Chat landings, while the Grand Jeté landings illustrate larger MTPJ dorsiflexion angle at vGRF peak compared with the Grand Pas de Chat landings. Furthermore, Participant 2 demonstrates much higher MTPJ angles and MTPJ negative angular velocities at vGRF peaks during the Grand Jeté and Grand Pas de Chat landings compared with Participant 1.Conclusion: Sprung floors, additional shoe cushioning, and eccentric muscle training programs may reduce the ankle joint and MTPJ loadings during ballet jump landings, and thereby reduce the risk for developing plantar fasciitis
Spraino reduces impact coefficient of friction and inversion moment during mechanical simulations of the initial contact of a lateral ankle sprain injury in badminton
Lateral ankle sprains, a common injury in badminton, have recently been demonstrated preventable to some extent via the use of a new injury preventive device—Spraino (Lysdal et al., Citation2020). Spraino is designed to minimize lateral edge shoe surface friction, and thus reducing the inversion moment by bringing the ground reaction force vector closer to the ankle joint centre, in case of a landing with an initially inverted foot (Lysdal et al., Citation2022).Testing the effect of preventive devices is a challenging task, however, as it is unethical to intentionally harm or risk the health of volunteering participants in the reproduction of injury scenarios
Spraino:A New Strategy for Lateral Ankle Sprain Injury Prevention
The lateral ankle sprain is among the most common musculoskeletal injuries and prevention is pertinent. Until recently, effective strategies have mainly sought to prevent injury through functional joint support (i.e., brace or tape) and exercise therapy (i.e., coordination, strength, and balance training). The lateral ankle sprain isthe typical result following an excessive inversion moment, which is directly affected by the position, magnitude and orientation of the ground reaction force vector – in relation to the ankle joint center. A viable strategy would therefore be to simply reduce this moment of force. ‘Spraino’ (“no” + “sprain”) is the new preventive strategy designed with this specific purpose. Spraino works by minimizing friction between the surface and the lateral shoe outsole, effectively changing the orientation of the ground reaction force, and thereby the external joint moment, when facing a potential injury situation. In a recent 510-athlete randomized controlled trial, allocation to Spraino resulted in a 53% reduction of severe ankle sprain injuries. This talk will seek to establish a link between excessive shoe-surface friction and the mechanism with which lateral ankle sprain injuries occur, and ultimately present how minimizing lateral edge shoe-surface friction can be a viable and effective injury preventive strategy with potential future implications

Vinter-OL associeres sjældent med det klassiske begreb 'kontaktsport'. Det er dog langtfra den klassiske definition af kontaktsport, vi har i fokus her
