Do Expectations match Reality When Firms Consider the Risks of Offshoring?

    No full text
It is explored whether firms with previous offshoring experience access the risk of offshoring similar to those without previous experienc

    Sustainable procurement in social enterprises

    No full text
In this chapter we compare the case studies of two social enterprises, one from the context of a developing country in India and another from the context of a developed country in Scotland. Through these case studies we illustrate how social enterprises integrate triple bottom line (TBL) aspects into their procurement or help other organizations in achieving sustainability in their procurement. These case studies highlight the importance of the social sustainability dimension, which has received relatively less scholarly attention in comparison to the environmental and economic sustainability dimensions

Are we really doing the “right thing”? From sustainability imperialism in global supply chains to an inclusive emerging economy perspective

    No full text
There is a notable gap between the vast theoretical desires regarding supply chain sustainability and actual implementation in practice. The drawback situation exists in every part of the world with remarkable evidence of poor environmental and social practices in the emerging economies. This paper suggests a deficiency in the understanding of the complex realities in emerging economies. The paper draws on a discussion of existing literature, empirical insights in a developing country and the application of MaslowÕs hierarchy of needs. We suggest a multilevel and systemic view of the issue and articulate a number of propositions to guide future research

Evaluating supply chain networks by incorporating the triple dimensions of sustainability paradigm

    No full text
Considering that supply chain network operations have become increasingly competitive and globalized, a critical challenge for any group of organizations is to develop an integrated set of performance metrics that can be used to evaluate the sustainability of different supply chain designs. However, the interface of environmental, economic and social aspects in supply chain management is not yet well-covered in the current literature. In this chapter, we attempt to develop mathematical programming-based efficiency metrics, which are called “sustainable network operational efficiency” (SNOE), in order to assess supply chain performance and evaluate possible design configurations of a global supply chain. The SNOE metrics could also be used to detect the factors of unsustainability in a supply chain network. This chapter may be of interest to organizations that are planning to design new supply chain networks or evaluate its existing networks with an aim to allocate its resources efficiently and improve its overall supply chain efficiency

Purchasing Organization and Design: A Literature Review

    No full text
This paper presents the results of a comprehensive literature review of the organization of purchasing covering the period from 1967 to 2009. The review provides a structured overview of prior research topics and findings and identifies gaps in the existing literature that may be addressed in future research. The intention of the review is to a) synthesize prior research, b) provide researchers with a structural framework on which future research on the organization of purchasing may be oriented, and c) suggest promising areas for future research.purchasing, supply, procurement, organization, institutional structure, structure, institution, design, performance, literature review
