No full textSi tratta della prima edizione commentata dei Frammenti di opere di Antichità arcadiche dopo la raccolta di Jacoby. Il commento è ampio e si sviluppa tanto sulle linee della storia evenemenziale delle poleis dell’Arcadia, nel contesto delle dinamiche regionali da un lato e panelleniche dall’altro, quanto in relazione all’esame delle tradizioni locali, a carattere mitologico, cultuale e comunitario. Nello studio si mette a fuoco, inoltre (in modo costante nella trattazione e per nuclei in uno degli Addenda), il rapporto fra gli storici locali, cui sono attribuiti i frammenti analizzati, e l’unica opera sull’Arcadia a noi trasmessa integralmente, ossia il libro VIII della Periegesi di Pausania

No full textBy analysing a selection of passages from the Histories this paper examines the interest that
Polybius - as both an Arcadian and an Achaean – displays about Arcadia of the past. The
study shows to what extent earlier events and traditions, dated to a time long before that of
Polybius’ own narration, have been incorporated into his work. I shall therefore propose
some reflections on how Polybius (as a historian with a ‘joint’ identity) has described the Arcadian
people; on the selection of historical and cultural elements from archaic and classical
Arcadia in his narrative; and on the comparison with Pausanias regarding traditions concerning
the monarchic phase of the regio

No full textLa première partie de cette contribution est consacrée à l’exégèse du contexte théorique dans lequel est discutée la chute des oligarchies: la compétition (φιλονεικία, V 6 1305b 22-38) et l’impudence (ἀσέλγεια, V 6 1305b 39-1306a 9) des notables constituent l’objet d’une analyse visant à définir la signification de l’une et de l’autre, ainsi que les effets concrets qu’elles produisent dans le contexte social. La seconde partie se concentre sur les données historiques relatives à Pharsale, évoquée en tant que paradigme isolé d’une cité où les notables au pouvoir ont réussi à maintenir un régime stable à travers l’exercice de la concorde: puisque le philosophe n’offre pas, dans ce cas, d’éléments susceptibles de fournir des indications utiles à un encadrement chronologique de l’exemple, nous avons pris en considération l’histoire de Pharsale à partir de 457 av. J.-C. jusqu’à l’époque d’Aristote, surtout pour ce qui est de la politique de Philippe II en faveur d’elle
