Interview with Oliver Lumpkin
Sergeant Oliver Lumpkin was born in Richland, Georgia. He joined the Corps in 1946 and served with the 51st Defense Battalion in the Ellice Islands. After leaving the Corps, he attended Ft. Valley State College and taught at Savannah, Georgia. He obtained a master's degree from Tuskegee University and his doctorate from Ohio State University, after which he served on the faculty of Clemson University for fifteen years. He resides in Savannah, Georgia
