Epigrafia della pila di anfore della Bottega del garum di Pompei (I 12, 8)
The contribution illustrates preliminary results of an interdisciplinary project of conservation and analysis of an exceptional group of Dressel 21-22 found by A. Maiuri in 1960 in the so called “Garum Shop” (I, 12, 8) at Pompeii and left in situ since then. About 81 vessels were pile up in three overlapping layers. All amphorae were manufactured in central and southern Italy: interestingly the majority of them (85, 2%) can be attributed to Botte Type 2, originating in the Calabria region. Several vessels still retained visible archaeozoological traces of their content (mainly Engraulis encrasicolus) and tituli picti. The latter offer a whole set of information regarding their content, its quality and quantity, together with names of agents involved in the trading process and network. Information are painted in rubrum and organized according to a standard format, comprising seven different sections (A-G). Each section is analysed and discussed with a particular focus on content and trade agents
Ad Novas-Cesenatico from Roman road to Late Antique wooden structures. An interim report on the evaluation test pits and excavation at Cà Bufalini, 2006
This paper presents the preliminary data from excavations undertaken at Cà Bufalini in Cesenatico in April 2006. This was the
pilot fieldwork from which developed the Ad Novas-Cesenatico Project 2008-13 organised by Denis Sami and Neil Christie from
the University of Leicester. During the 2006 season four test trenches were opened. This paper outlines the evidence retrieved
both of late antique (fifth - sixth century AD) wooden structures as well as of a substantial paved Roman road. Potentially, the
Cà Bufalini site may relate to the likely statio of Ad Novas depicted on the Tabula Peutingeriana
Immagini in potenza, immagini di potenza: la battaglia di Til Tuba e la narrazione continua
This paper proposes a translation of ancient artwork characterized by untemporalized and fixed slab images into a motion picture video. The video, which is visible on the Web, shows a guided vision of the reliefs from Ninive commemorating the battle of Til Tuba and the triumph of Ashurbanipal over the Elamites. Pictures of these slabs have been placed into chronological sequence following the historical order of the represented episodes, including an audio commentary based on ancient inscriptions. The first part of the article analyses the slabs, while the second outlines the video editing. The aim of the project is to show analogies and differences between past and modern visual languages and to highlight the unexpressed potentials of these reliefs, connected to the attempt of narrating the events in their temporal and spatial development. Furthermore, some considerations are given about the role and functioning of visual language as a communication tool
