The aim of this thesis is to present the specific notion of feminism and mythopoetics in the selected works of Angela Carter and demonstrate them on two selected works of Carter's, namely on the collection of re-visited traditional fairy tales The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories and the novel Nights at the Circus. The thesis also deals with chosen features of postmodernism these two works contain. In the first, theoretical part the author and her oeuvre is introduced, followed by the concept of postmodernism and its selected features. The second, practical part is focused on both books' analysis which attempts to establish whether and how the selected works show the features of postmodernism and to which extent it is possible to trace the notions of Carter's feminism and mythopoetics in them.Katedra anglického jazyka a literaturyFaculty of EducationPedagogická fakult

This work proposes a research-creation methodology that intertwines acousmatics with dramaturgy, establishing a multidisciplinary dialogue based on various areas of knowledge. Throughout the research, the author collects and analyzes a considerable set of stories that illustrate childhood memories in the context of the armed conflict in Colombia, addressing violence from a poetic and critical perspective. The state of the art of this work is based on interactions with multiple authors and expressive materials, highlighting the artistic references that make up the work. The author emphasizes the importance of creating memory in a context where art becomes a mechanism of symbolic reparation, giving visibility to children affected by violence and institutional abandonment. Her analysis focuses on the relationship between sounds and memories, highlighting how the violence of the territory masks intra-family violence. The research-creation methodology in this work, called acousmatic dramaturgy, is distinguished by the transformation of artistic interpretations into dramaturgical mechanisms that construct narratives through sound, masking a reality of the Colombian peasantry. The author confronts academic tradition by incorporating an epistolary writing format that reflects her theoretical inquiries in an unconventional way. Through concepts such as the "sound fossil" and the "cocktail party effect", her proposal contributes to the dialogue on contemporary dramaturgical creation by transcending autofiction and self-referentiality, directing attention towards the construction of a story that transcends the individual and becomes collective. Faced with the reality of the post-agreement in Colombia, the work not only documents a lacerating portrait of everyday life in contexts of conflict, but also encourages reflection on the pain of affected generations. In conclusion, the author's methodological proposal represents a contribution to the field of creative writing, challenging traditional norms and opening up new possibilities for exploration in art and the production of knowledge.

Avšak ako vyplýva z analýzy obsiahnutej v...in English language: The statement of Angela Merkel from November 2014 that she would rather see the UK out of the EU than compromise the free movement in the EU (which as at the date of the submission of this dissertation materialized in potential Brexit) was one of the reasons which encouraged the author to analyse the reach of free movement rules, more specifically the horizontal direct effect of the Treaty freedoms, in this dissertation. The author focuses on the issues stemming mainly from the broader topic of the legitimacy of market integration which the author translated into the concept of separation of the regulatory competences between the EU and the Member States and related separation between the Treaty provisions' addressees, namely the Member States and the private entities. This dissertation focuses on the following research question: To what extent has the CJEU advanced the European market integration through the development of the principle of horizontal direct effect of the Treaty freedoms? The starting point after the establishment of the EEC was that the sole addressees of the Treaty freedoms were the Member States whereas the Treaty rules on competition only applied to private entities. However, as is demonstrated throughout this dissertation, it is nowadays generally accepted...Department of European LawKatedra evropského právaPrávnická fakultaFaculty of La

Assessing Tolerability with the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Item GP5: Psychometric Evidence from LIBRETTO-531, a Phase 3 Trial of Selpercatinib in Medullary Thyroid Cancer

    No full text
BACKGROUND: This psychometric analysis generated evidence to support the use of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy item GP5 (GP5) as a measure of tolerability and confirms the appropriateness of categorizing high side-effect burden using a rating of 3 or 4 (score ranges 0-4) in patients with advanced/metastatic RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). METHODOLOGY: Blinded, pooled interim data from the safety population (n=290) enrolled in the phase 3 LIBRETTO-531 trial (NCT04211337) were used. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were calculated for test-retest reliability using data from cycles 1-2 post-baseline. Construct validity was evaluated by examining the correlations of GP5 ratings with (a) symptomatic adverse events (AEs; measured by the PRO-CTCAE), and (b) functioning scores of EORTC QLQ-C30. The ability to detect change over time was examined by Cochrane-Mantel-Haenszel tests for GP5 ratings and PRO-CTCAE. The relationship of high side-effect burden categories with QLQ-C30 functioning scores was examined. RESULTS: ICCs for the GP5 ratings after cycle 1 ranged between 0.80 and 0.85, indicating good reliability. Correlations between GP5 and PRO-CTCAE items ranged from 0.18 to 0.62 and ranged from -0.37 to -0.50 for QLQ-C30 functioning scores, consistent with study assumptions. Post-baseline GP5 ratings showed significant associations with PRO-CTCAE scores (p CONCLUSIONS: This analysis generated evidence supportive of the psychometric properties of the GP5 as a fit-for-purpose measure to assess treatment tolerability in patients with advanced/metastatic MTC. The definition of high side-effect burden was associated with the clinical feature of tolerability

Abstract Background This psychometric analysis generated evidence to support the use of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy item GP5 (GP5) as a measure of tolerability and confirms the appropriateness of categorizing “high side-effect burden” using a rating of 3 or 4 (score ranges 0–4) in patients with advanced/metastatic RET-mutant medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Methodology Blinded, pooled interim data from the safety population (n=290) enrolled in the phase 3 LIBRETTO-531 trial (NCT04211337) were used. Post-baseline GP5 ratings showed significant associations with PRO-CTCAE scores (p<0.001). Participants with GP5 ratings of 3 or 4 had worse physical function than those with GP5 ratings of 0 to 2 (p<0.0001). Conclusions This analysis generated evidence supportive of the psychometric properties of the GP5 as a fit-for-purpose measure to assess treatment tolerability in patients with advanced/metastatic MTC. The definition of “high side-effect burden” was associated with the clinical feature of tolerability

This thesis focuses on the comparison of two short stories by Angela Carter with the fairy tale on which they are based. It attempts to discern to what extent the author preserved the structure of the fairy tale, as viewed from a linguistic point of view, in her short stories. The thesis also suggests an interpretation of the motivation and effect of the divergences of the structure of the short stories from that of the fairy tale. The three texts are analysed from three points of view: thematic progressions, discourse subjects and cohesive chains, and cohesive ties. Attention is payed first to the description of the individual texts, and then to the comparison of the three texts. The comparison puts emphasis on the distinction between the shorts stories on one hand and the fairy tale on the other hand. The comparison shows that the structure of the fairy tale is to a large extent retained in the short stories, as they share characteristics on all the three levels of analysis. The short stories were found to differ from the fairy tale in two main respects, connected to each other, which influence the differences in their structure: the age of the intended reader, and the context and setting of the story.Katedra anglického jazyka a literaturyPedagogická fakultaFaculty of Educatio

BACKGROUND: This study presents patient-reported outcomes (PROs) from the phase 1/2 BRUIN (NCT03740529) trial of pirtobrutinib monotherapy for the treatment of B-cell malignancies, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). METHODS: PROs were collected at each cycle using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire and item library (IL) sets for CLL/SLL- and MCL-related symptoms and an Expanded Fatigue measure. Prespecified analyses included descriptive change from baseline, time to worsening (TTW) using Kaplan-Meier method, and longitudinal analyses using a mixed model for repeated measures. RESULTS: A total of 263 patients with CLL/SLL and 124 with non-blastoid MCL who received pirtobrutinib monotherapy after prior BTKi were included in the final PRO analysis. The proportion of patients with CLL/SLL who improved or remained stable from baseline through Cycle 31 remained above 80% for physical function (PF), CLL/SLL-related symptoms, fatigue, and global health status/quality of life (GHS/QoL). The proportion of patients with MCL who improved or remained stable through Cycle 20 remained above 70% for PF, MCL-related symptoms, fatigue, and GHS/QoL. Median TTW was not reached in either CLL or MCL. Longitudinal analyses for PF, CLL/SLL-related symptoms, fatigue, and GHS/QoL consistently met statistically significant and clinically-meaningful improvement from baseline for CLL. PRO assessments remained stable over time for MCL. CONCLUSIONS: The final analysis from the BRUIN trial demonstrates stability in PROs throughout the duration of treatment with pirtobrutinib. Most patients with CLL/SLL and MCL reported stable or improved outcomes throughout the study
