Discrete time neural control of a nonholonomic mobile robot integrating stereo vision feedback
The tracking control of nonholonomic mobile robots has been an important class of control problems. This paper deals with the design and real-time implementation of a discrete-time super twisting control algorithm for nonholonomic wheeled mobile robots, without the previous knowledged of the plant model or its parameters. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller experimental results are included for a nonholonomic mobile robot Qbot® 3. A conceptual framework on the integration of solar energy systems in heritage sites and buildings
The integration between solar energy systems and building components is very critical in sensitive heritage contexts, especially for the protection of the aesthetical appearance and the historical values of the buildings and their preservation and it is not worthy simple to find useful spaces for a perfect integrationas well as the lack of useful spaces. The solar systems can be divided in photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal (ST) systems. Particularly, Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Building Integrated Solar Thermal (BIST) are PV or ST panels integrated into the building envelope, combining the energy generation with other functions, such as noise, weather protection, thermal insulation, sun shadow and so on. Nowadays, the dynamism of the market permits to design high compatible products that appear like other traditional architecture materials. This situation boosts the integration with heritage sites and BIPV and BIST systems, especially thanks to the use of advanced customization process, low reflecting and special glasses, innovative low-cost treatments. Limited studied analyses the application of these technologies in heritage contexts, due to the presence of architectonic, conservative, and cultural barriers. For this reason, the paper presents a comprehensive review of the current studies on solar energy technologies in heritage sites and buildings, in order to define a common framework for restores, conservators, and energy experts and to facilitate their diffusion and application in heritage contexts, preserving their cultural and natural values as well as reducing primary energy consumption, increasing comfort levels, minimizing environmental impacts, and improving technical quality and economical outlays. Thus, from this conceptual framework, the study provides several operative strategies for industries and academics, in other to encourage their diffusion and application in sensible contexts

Acceptance of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) in Heritage Buildings and Towns: potential, barriers and assessment criteria
The paper refers to the application of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) systems for the renovation of heritage buildings and urban landscapes, preserving their historic, material, aesthetic and natural values as well as lowering energy bills, increasing comfort, and improving their technical quality in terms of economic and environmental sustainability. Several criteria for the compatible use of BIPV systems in heritage context are proposed, also taking into account the perspective of architectural preservation, legislative framework, research projects, and the scientific literature. The research is structured in the following steps: (i) examination of existing criteria for acceptable use of BIPV on heritage sites; (ii) examination of the theory of architectural preservation and restoration; (iii) identification of a set of criteria for compatible insertion of BIPV; and (iv) assessment of these criteria on case studies. The study shows new opportunities of inserting new and emerging solar products in these contexts, especially thanks to the advanced customization possibilities to preserve their values by resembling other known building material

Intelligent visual servoing for nonholonomic mobile robots
In this work the authors present a visual servoing approach based on particle swarm optimization (PSO-PBVS). The PSO-PBVS algorithm overcomes the traditional PBVS approach by keeping the target features inside the image plane during the servoing. The PSO-PBVS approach allows to define the 3D trajectory in the task space, in the same way as the PBVS approach. In addition, an intelligent control is used to estimate the currents for each motor, and ensure that the motors provide the desired velocities. 2014 IEEE
Composed filter for attenuating bi-frequential noise on LCD-generated ronchigrams
In this paper a neural identification approach is used to estimate the parameters of a mobile robot with nonholonomic constraints. Then an inverse optimal control is designed for its control. In order to take in account the environment of the robot, a monocular visual sensor is mounted on the robot to estimate the velocities for the controller. Simulations results show the effectiveness of the proposed neural controller.
