THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN INTERNATIONAL NEGOTIATION: THE JORDANIAN-ISRAELI PEACE NEGOTIATION AS A CASE-STUDY
No full textDegree awarded: M.A. School of International Service. American UniversityThe world is becoming more interdependent. Governments and diplomats negotiate across cultures every day. Some argue that negotiators are professionals and share the common diplomatic culture, therefore their cultural backgrounds are irrelevant to international negotiation and in result culture has no significant influence on the process. The author argues that culture does matter and it could influence the different negotiation elements: individuals, process, and outcome - the larger the cultural gap between the parties, the larger the cultural influence. To substantiate his argument, the author uses a case-study analysis of the Jordanian-Israeli peace negotiation that led to the 1994 peace treaty. The author conducted eight semi-structured interviews with negotiators from the two countries who actively participated in the negotiation - including the heads of the two delegations. From this work, the author concludes that culture in the Jordanian-Israeli negotiation was manifested, and influenced the negotiators, the process, and the outcome in six different ways - culture was an enabler.Made available in DSpace on 2015-01-15T21:01:04Z (GMT). No full textPerekrutan mahasiswa menjadi asisten laboratorium atau laboran pada laboratorium komputer di Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Manajemen Informatika dan Komputer Sepuluh Nopember Jayapura adalah suatu kegiatan yang rutin dilakukan oleh pihak laboratorium pada setiap semester berjalan. Hal ini dilakukan untuk menjaga dan meningkatkan perawatan fasilitas serta pelayanan laboratorium, dan sekaligus meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa di bidang teknologi informasi lewat aktifitas yang dilakukan selama menjadi laboran. Dalam rekrutmen perlu sekali untuk dilakukan proses seleksi dengan menggunakan sistem pendukung keputusan, sehingga sistem ini dapat membantu kepala laboratorium untuk mengambil keputusan yang tepat dalam menerima laboran baru. Pada penelitian ini akan membahas perancangan dan pengembangan sistem untuk keperluan seleksi laboran menggunakan metode weighted product dengan menerapkan beberapa kriteria terhadap sejumlah alternatif (calon laboran), dimana jenis attribut kriteria yang digunakan adalah cost dan benefit. Adapun kriteria yang digunakan adalah nilai matakuliah praktikum, indeks prestasi komulatif, kehadiran pada matakuliah praktikum, kemampuan komunikasi, dan penguasaan nilai praktek. High-resolution ultramicroscopy of the developing and adult nervous system in optically cleared Drosophila melanogaster
No full textThe fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is an important experimental model to address central questions in neuroscience at an organismic level. However, imaging of neural circuits in intact fruit flies is limited due to structural properties of the cuticle. Here we present a novel approach combining tissue clearing, ultramicroscopy, and data analysis that enables the visualisation of neuronal networks with single-cell resolution from the larval stage up to the adult Drosophila. FlyClear, the signal preserving clearing technique we developed, stabilises tissue integrity and fluorescence signal intensity for over a month and efficiently removes the overall pigmentation. An aspheric ultramicroscope set-up utilising an improved light-sheet generator allows us to visualise long-range connections of peripheral sensory and central neurons in the visual and olfactory system. High-resolution 3D reconstructions with isotropic resolution from entire GFP-expressing flies are obtained by applying image fusion from orthogonal directions. This methodological integration of novel chemical, optical, and computational techniques allows a major advance in the analysis of global neural circuit organisation.© The Author(s) 201
