The Poems of MS Junius 11 Basic Readings
Taken from the same manuscript as Cynewulf, the Junius 11 poems-Genesis, Exodus, Daniel, and Christ and Satan-comprise a series of redacted Old English works that have been traditionally presented as the work of Bede's Caedmon. Medieval scholars have concluded that the four poems were composed by more than one author and later edited by Junius in 1655. All of the poems are notable for their Christian content. Power Line Inspection Tasks with Multi-Aerial Robot Systems Via Signal Temporal Logic Specifications
A framework for computing feasible and constrained trajectories for a fleet of quad-rotors leveraging on Signal Temporal Logic (STL) specifications for power line inspection tasks is proposed in this letter. The planner allows the formulation of complex missions that avoid obstacles and maintain a safe distance between drones while performing the planned mission. An optimization problem is set to generate optimal strategies that satisfy these specifications and also take vehicle constraints into account. Further, an event-triggered replanner is proposed to reply to unforeseen events and external disturbances. An energy minimization term is also considered to implicitly save quad-rotors battery life while carrying out the mission. Numerical simulations in MATLAB and experimental results show the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and demonstrate its applicability in real-world scenarios
Psychometric Characteristics of the Italian Version of the Revised Sociosexual Orientation Inventory
Sociosexuality refers to the tendency to engage in uncommitted sexual behavior and has been dissected into three domains: sociosexual behavior, attitudes, and desire (Penke & Asendorpf, 2008), which led to the revised Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (SOI-R), which was validated on a German sample. The current research aimed at translating and validating an Italian version (I-SOI-R), administered to three distinct Italian participant groups. In the first sample (N = 710, females = 521, age = 18-59 years), we found evidence for a bifactor model, articulated in a general sociosexuality factor and three specific factors (behavior, attitudes, desire). High internal consistency was established for total and subscale scores, alongside favorable test-retest reliability. A connection was found between relationship status and sociosexual desire, though not gender dependent. We found evidence for test-retest reliability in a second sample (N = 55, females = 37, age 20-58 years). In a third study (N = 305, females = 147, age = 19-60 years), the earlier findings were replicated, further confirming the I-SOI-R's construct, criterion, and nomological validity on an online sample. Combining data from the three studies revealed full configural, metric, and scalar invariance regarding gender. This allowed us to meaningfully compare the observed scores of women and men and replicated the finding that men display higher levels of unrestricted sociosexuality. In conclusion, the I-SOI-R may serve as a valuable tool to assess and enhance sexual health, albeit warranting future research on construct and criterion validity
Sensorimotor and interoceptive dimensions in concrete and abstract concepts
Recent theories propose that abstract concepts, compared to concrete ones, might activate to a larger extent interoceptive, social and linguistic experiences. At the same time, recent research has underlined the importance of investigating how different sub-kinds of abstract concepts are represented. We report a pre-registered experiment, preceded by a pilot study, in which we asked participants to evaluate the difficulty of 3 kinds of concrete concepts (natural objects, tools, and food concepts) and abstract concepts (Philosophical and Spiritual concepts, PS, Physical Space Time and Quantity concepts, PSTQ, and Emotional, Mental State and Social concepts, EMSS). While rating the words, participants were assigned to different conditions designed to interfere with conceptual processing: they were required to squeeze a ball (hand motor system activation), to chew gum (mouth motor system activation), to self-estimate their heartbeats (interoception), and to perform a motor articulatory task (inner speech involvement). In a control condition they simply rated the difficulty of words. A possible interference should result in the increase of the difficulty ratings. Bayesian analyses reveal that, compared to concrete ones, abstract concepts are more grounded in interoceptive experience and concrete concepts less in linguistic experience (mouth motor system involvement), and that the experience on which different kinds of abstract and concrete concepts differs widely. For example, within abstract concepts interoception plays a major role for EMSS and PS concepts, while the ball squeezing condition interferes more for PSTQ concepts, confirming that PSTQ are the most concrete among abstract concepts, and tap into sensorimotor manual experience. Implications of the results for current theories of conceptual representation are discussed
The value of megaprostheses in non-oncological fractures in elderly patients: A short-term results
Introduction: The management of both hip and distal femur fractures as well as periprosthetic fractures can be challenging for orthopaedic surgeons. The use of megaprosthetic implants could provide substantial advantages in elderly population affected by complex fractures. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of megaprosthetic implants for treating hip and distal femur fractures as well as periprosthetic fractures in elderly. Material and Methods: From January 1st 2015 to December 31st 2019, patients treated for proximal or distal femoral fractures with severe bone loss or failure of previous surgery were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were divided into two group based on diagnosis: proximal femur fractures (group A) and distal femur fractures (group B). Subsequently, patients underwent hip (group A) or knee (group B) megaprosthesis. Self-assessed questionnaires were administered to all patients pre and postoperatively. Primary outcome was the Activity Daily Living. Secondary outcomes were: Instrumental Activity Daily Living, Short Form-12, Oxford knee or hip score, complications. Charlson score, Harris classification for hip or Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute score and complication were recorded. All patients underwent a radiological follow up to rule out implant loosening and mobilization. Pre and postoperative functional score comparisons in each group were undertaken. Significance was set p ≤ 0.05. Results: Twelve patients were finally included in the study. There were 6 male and 6 females, the mean age was 72,9 years old (± 7,4); the mean BMI was 29,8 points (± 4.5). The mean follow-up was 2.9 years (± 1.4). No differences could be found between pre and postoperative evaluation in each group. No aseptic loosening, dislocation, mobilization or radiolucency were recorded during the follow-up. In group A, two surgical site infections (2/6 patients) and one pneumonia (1/6 patients) were recorded. In group B, two surgical site infections occurred (2/6 patients). All patients were treated by antimicrobial oral therapy with complete regression. Conclusion: The use of hip and knee megaprosthetic implants in traumatology is a safe and viable option in elderly patients
Metacognition as a transdiagnostic factor across eating disorders: a latent profile analysis study
Background: Metacognition is a crucial aspect of understanding and attributing mental states, playing a key role in the psychopathology of eating disorders (EDs). This study aims to explore the diverse clinical profiles of metacognition among patients with EDs using latent profile analysis (LPA). Method: A total of 395 patients with a DSM-5 diagnosis of ED (116 AN-R, 30 AN/BP, 100 BN, 149 BED) participated in this study. They completed self-report measures assessing metacognition, eating psychopathology, depression, emotional dysregulation, personality traits, and childhood adversities. LPA and Welch ANOVAs were conducted to identify profiles based on metacognition scores and examine psychological differences between them. Logistic regression models were employed to explore associations between personal characteristics and different profiles. Results: A 3-class solution had a good fit to the data, revealing profiles of high functioning (HF), intermediate functioning (IF), and low functioning (LF) based on levels of metacognitive impairments. Participants in the IF group were older and had a higher BMI than those in the HF and LF groups. Individuals with BN were largely categorized into HF and LF profiles, whereas participants with BED were mainly included in the IF profile. Participants in the LF group reported an impaired psychological profile, with high levels of depression, emotional dysregulation, childhood adversity, and personality dysfunction. Multinomial logistic regression analyses showed significant associations between metacognitive profiles and emotional and neglect abuse, emotion dysregulation, and detachment. Conclusion: This exploratory study unveils distinct metacognitive profiles in EDs, providing a foundation for future research and targeted interventions. In this light, metacognitive interpersonal therapy could be a valid and effective treatment for EDs, as suggested by the initial promising results for these patients
Thermal expansion anomalies of R(Fe, M)(12) (R=Y, Nd; M=Mo and Si)
Structural and thermal-expansion anomaly studies on R(Fe,M)(12) (R=Nd and and Y, M=Mo and Si) compounds were performed by x-ray diffraction. Mo atoms occupy the 8i site. While Si atoms occupy the 8f and 8j sites but not the 8i site. Thermal-expansion anomaly shows only in ab plane in the Mo compounds, while becomes very weak and along with only the c axis in the Si compounds. The anomaly was attributed to the contribution of the interactions of short Fe-Fe distances similar to the previous explanation on other R-Fe intermetallics and that of other strongly positive interactions such as 8j-8j. A Unified Control Platform and Architecture for the Integration of Wind-Hydrogen Systems into the Grid
Hydrogen is a promising energy vector for achieving renewable integration into the grid, thus fostering the decarbonization of the energy sector. This paper presents the control platform architecture of a real hydrogen-based energy production, storage, and re-electrification system (HESS) paired to a wind farm located in north Norway and connected to the main grid. The HESS consists of an electrolyser, a hydrogen tank, and a fuel cell. The control platform includes the management software, the control algorithms, and the automation technologies operating the HESS in order to address the three use cases (electricity storage, mini-grid, and fuel production) identified in the IEA-HIA Task24 final report, that promote the integration of wind energy into the main grid. The control algorithms have been already developed by the same authors in other papers using mixed-logical dynamical modeling, and implemented via a two-layer model predictive control scheme for each use case, and are quickly introduced in order to make evident their integration into the presented architecture. Simulation test runs with real equipment data, wind generation, load profiles, and market prices are also reported so as to highlight the control platform performances.Note to Practitioners-The paper develops the integration between the management platform of a HESS, paired to a real wind farm in northern Norway, and the control algorithms aimed at scheduling hydrogen production and re-electrification on the basis of several forecast streams about exogenous conditions and different possible operating modes of the wind-hydrogen system. The control algorithms address the three use cases identified by the IEA-HIA in the final report of Task 24 about the integration of wind energy into the grid, namely i) electricity storage, where the HESS is operated in order to enable the wind farm to power smoothing; ii) mini-grid, where the wind farm and the HESS form a mini-grid with a local load (small town) and the HESS is therefore operated in order to fulfill it without and with grid support (in this case buying and selling electricity to the market is also handled); and iii) fuel production, where the HESS is operated in order to fulfill a hydrogen demand (e.g., due to fuel cell vehicles). In addition to the specific objectives of each use case, the developed control algorithms also optimize the HESS operating costs and typically address two time-scale behaviors to appropriately handle corresponding long and short terms dynamics. The management platform of the HESS is arranged in three layers (physical, control, and supervision layers), and located in the cloud. The physical layer targets the physical components, sensors, and actuators. The automation layer includes all local controllers and modules used for measurement, and several servers for interactions between the higher and lower layers of the control architecture and databases. In the supervision layer, the execution of control algorithms and clients for remote diagnoses, monitoring, and top-management activities are located. Since each layer performs specific functionalities, a multi-Tier architecture is implemented and the communications among the layers occur through services and microservices

Measurement matters. Addressing the importance of measurement in olfactory research
In our talk, we will address one often-neglected aspect of the credibility crisis: the measurement crisis. To make valid conclusions and avoid what some authors have called questionable measurement practices (QMP, Flake, and Fried, 2019), we have to use precise and accurate measures of operational variables. Common QMPs are for example i) the use of sum scores without testing the assumptions that underlie the use of sum scores (McNeish & Wolf, 2020) and ii) differential item functioning (DIF) and measurement invariance, which may invalidate the results from group comparisons. Given the extraordinary attention that the COVID-19 pandemic has posed on smell abilities, here we focus on the assessment of the abovementioned common QMPs in chemosensory research, by investigating the psychometric properties of a widely used test aimed to measure olfactory function, the Sniffin’ Sticks Test (Hummel et al., 1997). We investigated i) whether the Sniffin’ Sticks score (TDI), calculated as the sum of the scores of its three subtests (Threshold, Discrimination, Identification), is justified; and ii) whether items from the identification test showed some differential item functioning. With the caveat of a relatively small sample size, preliminary results from the ongoing data collection suggest that some, but not all, of the assumptions appear to be tenable. This suggests a promising validity and reliability of the Italian version of the Sniffin’ Sticks
