A Subband-Selective Broadband GSC with Cosine-Modulated Blocking Matrix
Full text linkIn this paper, a novel subband-selective generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) for partially adaptive broadband beamforming is proposed. The columns of the blocking matrix are derived from a prototype vector by cosine-modulation, and the broadside constraint is incorporated by imposing zeros on the prototype vector appropriately. These columns constitute a series of bandpass filters, which select signals with specific angles of arrival and frequencies. This results in highpass-type bandlimited spectra of the blocking matrix outputs, which is further exploited by subbands decomposition and suitably discarding the low-pass subbands prior to running independent unconstrained adaptive filters in each non-redundant subband. By these steps, the computational complexity of a GSC implementation is greatly reduced compared to fully adaptive GSC schemes, while performance is comparable or even enhanced due to subband decorrelation in both spatial and temporal domains

1, 2-H shift in benzylchlorocarbene: isotope effect and influence of the solvent
No full textLaser flash photolysis of 3-chloro-3-benzyldiazirine and 3-chloro-3-(phenyldideuteriomethyl)diazirine in isooctane over the 60 to -80-degrees-C temperature range gives rise to curved Arrhenius plots for both 1,2-H and 1,2-D migration in benzylchlorcarbene. The k(H)/k(D) values increase smoothly from 0.87 to 2.62 when the temperature increases from -60 to +30-degrees-C. The k(H)/k(D) value is approximately 4 for most of the temperatures studied if a solvent correction is applied. No full textIzabella Łabędzka, JERZY GROTOWSKI’S ACTOR TRAINING AND ITS IMPACT ON THE TAIWANESE SEARCHING THEATRE. THE CASE OF LIU JINGMIN’S EARLY EXPERIMENTS. “PORÓWNANIA” 1 (24), 2019. Vol. XXIV, P. 175-194. ISSN 1733-165X. The paper is a result of several years’ research conducted in Taiwan. It presents the early years of one of the most interesting theatre groups from Taipei, You Juchang/U-Theatre/Youren Shengu, which was established in 1988 by Liu Jingmin (Liu Ruoyu). Liu Jingmin was much inspired by Jerzy Grotowski’s idea of actor’s training presented by him in Irvine (California) in the mid-eighties. The article shows how Liu Jingmin started from imitating Grotowski’s physical exercises and later she focused on understanding her native culture. She rethought many Chinese and Taiwanese forms of theatre, meditation and breathing techniques, music and dance traditions, culture of masks andreligious rituals. The aim of this paper is to describe how Liu Jingmin for more than three decades had been working on a comprehensive development of the actor through perfecting his technical skills along with their spirit. Niniejszy artykuł jest efektem wieloletnich badań terenowych prowadzonych na Tajwanie. Przedstawia on jedną z bardziej interesujących grup teatralnych w Tajpej, You Juchang/U-Theatre/Youren Shengu, która została założona w 1988 r. przez Liu Jingmin (Liu Ruoyu). Liu Jingmin zainspirowała idea treningu aktorskiego zaprezentowana przez Jerzego Grotowskiego w Irvine, w Kalifornii, w połowie lat osiemdziesiątych XX w. Artykuł pokazuje, jak Liu Jingmin, zrazu zainspirowana ćwiczeniami aktorskimi Grotowskiego, w późniejszym okresie działalności skupiła się na głębszym poznaniu własnej kultury. Przemyślała i przestudiowała wiele chińskich i tajwańskich form teatru, technik oddechowych i medytacyjnych, tradycji muzycznych i tanecznych, bogatą kulturę maski i rytuałów religijnych. Celem tego artykułu jest przedstawienie, jak przez ponad trzy dekady Liu Jingmin pracowała nad wszechstronnym rozwojem aktora przez doskonalenie jego umiejętności technicznych i jego ducha. Jej celem było wewnętrzne, duchowe oraz zewnętrzne, fizyczne przekształcenie performera, a ostatecznie stworzenie pięknego człowieka
Difference based Ridge and Liu type Estimators in Semiparametric Regression Models
Full text linkWe consider a difference based ridge regression estimator and a Liu type estimator of the regression parameters in the partial linear semiparametric regression model, y = Xβ + f + ε. Both estimators are analysed and compared in the sense of mean-squared error. We consider the case of independent errors with equal variance and give conditions under which the proposed estimators are superior to the unbiased difference based estimation technique. We extend the results to account for heteroscedasticity and autocovariance in the error terms.
