Thermomechanical properties of ABS/PA AND ABS/PC blends
Full text linkThe significant increase of Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) has led to an important research in upgrading recycled engineering plastics by means of a blending technique. Classical twin-screw extrusion is compared to a new blending technique, where two polymers are combined together and then flow in several static mixers. This technique allows to obtain different morphologies of compatibilized ABS/PA or ABS/PC blends and the aim of this work is to evaluate the corresponding thermomechanical properties. Experimental results demonstrate in particular that fibrilar morphology is obtained with the new blending technique (only with ABS/PA blends), which could lead to a mechanical enhancement if the adhesion between ABS and PA is optimized

Since Lenovo bought IBM's PC business in 2004, Liu gradually left the center of power. After the merger, cooperation among the top management had been a great challenge: this became more prominent in the aftermath of the 2007 financial crisis and it was made even worse by Lenovo’s losses beginning in the third quarter of 2008. At this critical moment, in order to strengthen the confidence of the board of directors, Liu Chuanzhi, who had handed power over to Yang Yuanqing, had to return. A PC parallel port button box provides millisecond response time accuracy under Linux
Full text linkFor psychologists, it is sometimes necessary to measure people's reaction times to the nearest millisecond. This article describes how to use the PC parallel port to receive signals from a button box to achieve millisecond response time accuracy. The workings of the parallel port, the corresponding port addresses, and a simple Linux program for controlling the port are described. A test of the speed and reliability of button box signal detection is reported. If the reader is moderately familiar with Linux, this article should provide sufficient instruction for him or her to build and test his or her own parallel port button box. This article also describes how the parallel port could be used to control an external apparatus

A Usability Study on LIU Library Front Page
Full text linkThe Post Campus Library website was newly redesigned last year, receiving
mixed reviews. The library front page offers a search engine to locate
resources for a variety of tasks such as class assignments, final papers,
and research projects. Due to the inconsistency of feedback, this project
was designed to evaluate the LIU Library front page based on both cognitive
walkthroughs and heuristic principles. For cognitive walkthrough
evaluations, three personae were chosen from the target groups believed
most likely to use the webpage: undergraduates, graduates, and faculty. For
heuristic principles, four requirements were chosen on which to judge the
webpage: match between real world and system, flexibility and efficiency of
use, aesthetic and minimalist design, and structure of information. Overall
the front page for the Post Campus Library has a streamlined, uncluttered,
functional layout. The redesign of the library webpage successfully incorporates
the most essential functions for most targeted user groups: getting
help and performing a search. In addition, for all levels of users, there is a
tailored user experience. However, several shortcomings emerged. These
included platform (Mac, PC, and mobile phone) inconsistencies, functional
deficiencies related to the primary search capability, and layout design that
causes unnecessary scrolling and disrupts the logical flow of information. A
future study of a survey to reach a broader set of users would reinforce the
findings of this study
