Based on two long-term, hourly (10:30–11:30 and 13:10–14:10) meteorological over-lake observations and data from Shenxian meteorological station, nearby Dongping Lake, the Penman-Monteith equation and reference evaporation ratio algorithm were used to calculate lake evaporation in Dongping Lake, China, from 2003 to 2010. The variation trend of evaporation of Dongping Lake was analyzed, and the influences that caused changes in lake evaporation were also discussed. The results show that (1) the total annual evaporation in Dongping Lake increased at 18.24 mm/a during 2003–2010.The major climatic factors accounting for this increase are the rising net radiation and the rising air temperature; (2) the total annual evaporation in a particular hour (13:10–14:10) in Dongping Lake increased at 4.55 mm/a during 2003–2010—the major climate factors that accounted for this increase are rising net radiation, followed by air temperature, wind velocity, and air humidity; (3) against the background of global warming, the climate of Dongping Lake tended to be dry during 2003–2010; the largest contribution to this comes from air temperature, followed by wind velocity and relative humidity; and (4) the monthly evaporation in Dongping Lake has seasonal variability.Water ManagementCivil Engineering and Geoscience

Geochemical characteristics and origin of natural gas in the Dongping–Niudong areas, Qaidam Basin, China

The geochemical characteristics, origin, and source of natural gas in the Dongping–Niudong areas are researched based on the information of components and the stable carbon isotopes of natural gas. The main component of hydrocarbon gas is methane, and C2+ possesses a relatively low content that ranges from 0.5% to 6.5%. The dryness coefficient of the Dongping area is more than 0.97, which categorizes as dry gas. The dryness coefficient of the Niudong area ranges from 90.3% to 98.1%, whilst having the characteristics of dry gas coexisting with wet gas. The δ13C1 dryness coefficient varies from −17.58‰ to −36.4‰, and δ13C2 is greater than −29‰. The gas of the Dongping 3 block has the characteristics of an abiogenic gas such as the reversed carbon isotope series. The combination of the relationship between the component of CO2 and δCCO213 and the background of development of hydrocarbon-generating sag, suggests that it is coal-derived gas. The RO and fluid inclusion studies show that the gas in Niudong area is mainly derived from Early Jurassic coal-measure source rocks of Kunteyi Sag, and there are two periods of hydrocarbon fillings. The first filling is mainly oil, and the second is mainly high mature gas; gas in Dongping area is mainly derived from Early Jurassic coal-measure source rocks of Pingdong–Yiliping Sag, and there are four periods of high-over mature gas fillings. The phenomenon of reversed carbon isotope series in Dongping area resulted from the multiple gas charging

Mineral paragenesis and ore-forming processes of the Dongping Gold Deposit, Hebei Province, China

    No full text
The Dongping gold deposit is located near the center of the northern margin of the North China Craton. It is hosted in the Shuiquangou syenite and characterized by large amounts of tellurides. Numerous studies have addressed this deposit; the mineral paragenesis and ore-forming processes, however, are still poorly studied. In this contribution, a new mineral paragenesis has been evaluated to further understand ore formation, including sulfides (pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, molybdenite, and bornite), tellurides (altaite, calaverite, hessite, muthmannite, petzite, rucklidgeite, sylvanite, tellurobismuthite, tetradymite, and volynskite), and native elements (tellurium and gold). Molybdenite, muthmannite, rucklidgeite, and volynskite are reported for the first time in this deposit. We consider the Dongping gold deposit mainly formed in the Devonian, and the ore-forming processes and the physicochemical conditions for ore formation can be reconstructed based on our newly identified ore paragenesis, that is, iron oxides -> (CO₂ effervescence) -> sulfides -> (fTe₂/fS₂ ratio increase) -> Pb-Bi-tellurides -> (condensation of H₂Te vapor) -> Au-Ag-tellurides -> (mixing with oxidizing water) -> carbonate and microporous gold -> secondary minerals -> secondary minerals. The logfO₂ values increase from the early to late stages, while the fH₂S and logfS₂ values increase initially and then decrease. CO₂ effervescence is the main mechanism of sulfides precipitation; this sulfidation and condensation of H₂Te vapor lead to deposition of tellurides. The development of microporous gold indicates that the deposit might experience overprint after mineralization. The Dongping gold deposit has a close genetic relationship with the Shuiquangou syenite, and tellurium likely originated from Shuiquangou alkaline magmatic degassing
