    Low-threshold diode-pumped CW passively mode-locked Nd:YVO4 lase

    No full text
A low-threshold passively continuous-wave (CW) mode-locked Nd:YVO4 solid-state laser was demonstrated by use of a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). The threshold for continuous-wave mode-locked is relatively low, about 2.15 W. The maximum average output power was 2.12 W and the optical to optical conversion efficiency was about 32%. The pulse width was about 15 ps with the repetition rate of 105 MHz. (C) 2008 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved

A new relevance feedback technique for iconic image retrieval based on spatial relationships

    No full text
[[abstract]]Due to the popularity of Internet and the growing demand of image access, the volume of image databases is exploding. Hence, we need a more efficient and effective image searching technology. Relevance feedback technique has been popularly used with content-based image retrieval (CBIR) to improve the precision performance, however, it has never been used with the retrieval systems based on spatial relationships. Hence, we propose a new relevance feedback framework to deal with spatial relationships represented by a specific data structure, called the 2D B(e)-string. The notions of relevance estimation and query reformulation are embodied in our method to exploit the relevance knowledge. The irrelevance information is collected in an irrelevant set to rule out undesired pictures and to expedite the convergence speed of relevance feedback. Our system not only handles picture-based relevance feedback, but also deals with region-based feedback mechanism, such that the efficacy and effectiveness of our retrieval system are both satisfactory. Cw ion lasers pumped by electron beams

We have obtained cw laser radiation from singly ionized Hg, I, Cd, Se, and As by exciting He metal-vapor mixtures with a dc electron beam. The beam is generated by glow discharge electron guns located apart from the active medium. This is the first time that cw ion laser action has been obtained using electron beam excitation

CW laser action in atomic fluorine

We have obtained CW laser action on four transitions in the doublet system of atomic fluorine for the first time. All previously reported laser action was on a pulsed basis only. CW laser radiation was obtained when F2 or AgF was used as a fluorine donor in an electron beam pumped helium plasma. A multiline output power of 200 mW was obtained
