Liu Kang
Liu Kang: Essays on Art and Culture is a testament to the inexorable passion of an artist who knew no boundaries. This collection of essays, which Liu Kang wrote over 44 years, offers an insight into the artist’s myriad interests as well as his contributions as a first generation Nanyang artist and art educator. Translated into English for this volume, Liu Kang’s essays are accompanied by commentaries and photographs of the artist-author and his subjects
New Liu Estimators for the Poisson Regression Model: Method and Application
A new shrinkage estimator for the Poisson model is introduced in this paper. This method is a generalization of the Liu (1993) estimator originally developed for the linear regression model and will be generalised here to be used instead of the classical maximum likelihood (ML) method in the presence of multicollinearity since the mean squared error (MSE) of ML becomes inflated in that situation. Furthermore, this paper derives the optimal value of the shrinkage parameter and based on this value some methods of how the shrinkage parameter should be estimated are suggested. Using Monte Carlo simulation where the MSE and mean absolute error (MAE) are calculated it is shown that when the Liu estimator is applied with these proposed estimators of the shrinkage parameter it always outperforms the ML. Finally, an empirical application has been considered to illustrate the usefulness of the new Liu estimators.Estimation; MSE; MAE; Multicollinearity; Poisson; Liu; Simulation

A Climate Action Plan for LIU Post
To continue to advance LIU’s sustainability leadership, LIU needs clear policies
to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Using national planning tools,
we are constructing a greenhouse gas profile for LIU Post and developing a
range of actions that LIU can follow in future years to reduce emissions. A
Climate Action Plan is the best management platform for achieving tangible
results. Our plan calls for a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035. The
plan tracks emissions related to campus vehicles and heating systems,
electric consumption, commuting patterns, and solid waste. To derive our
carbon reduction plan, we will analyze similar plans at peer institutions, talk
with key university leaders, and examine regional and national trends in
renewable energy production, automobile efficiency standards, and growth
in the electric vehicle market. Research topics include: cultivating campus
stakeholders, assessing LIU’s future capital projects, proposing new campus
energy management practices, reviewing LIPA’s energy infrastructure,
understanding LIU Post’s campus energy generation, conducting a GIS
assessment of campus commuting patterns, analyzing campus solid waste,
recycling, and purchasing practices. In addition, we propose a series of campus
educational and green funding recommendations. It is our hope that LIU
Post will review and adopt this plan in 2017
Difference based Ridge and Liu type Estimators in Semiparametric Regression Models
We consider a difference based ridge regression estimator and a Liu type estimator of the regression parameters in the partial linear semiparametric regression model, y = Xβ + f + ε. Both estimators are analysed and compared in the sense of mean-squared error. We consider the case of independent errors with equal variance and give conditions under which the proposed estimators are superior to the unbiased difference based estimation technique. We extend the results to account for heteroscedasticity and autocovariance in the error terms. Finally, we illustrate the performance of these estimators with an application to the determinants of electricity consumption in Germany.Difference based estimator; Differencing estimator, Differencing matrix, Liu estimator, Liu type estimator, Multicollinearity, Ridge regression estimator, Semiparametric model
Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome Protein SBDS Maintains Human Telomeres by Regulating Telomerase Recruitment. Liu et al
Original data of main figures including Western blot, Southern blot, immunofluorescence and TBE PAGE results were provided in .tif format. Selected panels were boxed. The detail of each lane was labeled and described in our paper (see Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome Protein SBDS Maintains Human Telomeres by Regulating Telomerase Recruitment. Liu et al)
GreenTech LIU: A Roadmap for a Collaborative, SDG Campus
For universities, sustainability is an essential literacy for the 21st century. LIU Post’s Center for Sustainability wants faculty and students to have powerful and effective digital tools for bringing sustainability frameworks into classrooms, campus research, and learning experiences. GreenTech LIU (GTLIU) will provide an integrated digital platform for faculty and students to collaborate on global citizenship research and education projects. We believe that global citizenship education (GCE) serves as a center axis that can help to integrate sustainability activities across the LIU Post campus. Sustainability and global citizenship are essential skills for 21st century students, regardless of students’ academic majors
