Through the thousands of documents preserved in the Archivio di Lionello Venturi, active in the University of Rome from 1997, identify the guidelines characterizing the scientific, social and political, made up for about sixty years by critic and art historian Lionello Venturi (1885-1961). After a first publication (2001) and after a reorganization necessarily laborious due to additional acquisitions, we now make it known indexes the entire content archival, divided into thematic sections. This volume also makes use of both the biographies of Venturi and one of its major students (Nello Ponente), both of short presentations on topics outstanding
Coupled atmosphere ocean climate model simulations in the Mediterranean region: effect of a high-resolution marine model on cyclones and precipitation
In this study we investigate the importance of an eddy-permitting Mediterranean Sea circulation model on the simulation of atmospheric cyclones and precipitation in a climate model. This is done by analyzing results of two fully coupled GCM (general circulation models) simulations, differing only for the presence/absence of an interactive marine module, at very high-resolution (~ 1/16°), for the simulation of the 3-D circulation of the Mediterranean Sea. Cyclones are tracked by applying an objective Lagrangian algorithm to the MSLP (mean sea level pressure) field. On annual basis, we find a statistically significant difference in vast cyclogenesis regions (northern Adriatic, Sirte Gulf, Aegean Sea and southern Turkey) and in lifetime, giving evidence of the effect of both land–sea contrast and surface heat flux intensity and spatial distribution on cyclone characteristics. Moreover, annual mean convective precipitation changes significantly in the two model climatologies as a consequence of differences in both air–sea interaction strength and frequency of cyclogenesis in the two analyzed simulations
‘Seeing shit’: assessing the visibility of dung tempering in ancient pottery using an experimental approach
Widespread ethnographic evidence exists for the addition of animal dung to clay during the process of ceramic production. However, conclusive evidence of dung tempering in archaeological ceramics is relatively rare. The aim of this study is to ascertain whether, and under which conditions, dung tempering of pottery is identifiable. To answer these questions, we assessed whether a combination of micro-particle analysis in loose sediment and thin-section petrography can reveal the addition of dung to the clay paste by focusing on faecal spherulites, ash pseudomorphs, phytoliths and coprophilous fungal spores. We analysed several series of experimentally produced ceramic briquettes tempered with different types of dung and dung ash, which were fired at a range of increasing temperatures. Our study shows that the identification of dung tempering represents a challenge, and it depends on a number of different factors, among others the original presence of dung markers in the dung used, the manufacturing process, the firing temperatures and the firing atmosphere. Overall, through a multidisciplinary approach, our work clarifies a variety of issues connected to the identification of dung in ancient pottery, highlighting the role of faecal spherulites as the most promising proxy
Public goods as drivers of growth/development
This paper frames a broader reconstruction of the
evolution of our understanding of the dynamics
of an economy through the role assigned to a

outlinesthe convergence of two distinct, though
major theoretical traditions: the theories of
growth/development, on one side, and the
debate over role and efficiency of State/Vertical
