Information credibility modeling in cooperative networks: equilibrium and mechanism design

    No full text
In a cooperative network the user equipment (UE) share information with each other for cooperatively achieving a common goal. However, owing to the concerns of privacy or cost, UEs may be reluctant to share genuine information, which raises the information credibility problem addressed. Diverse techniques have been proposed for enhancing the information credibility in various scenarios. However, there is paucity of information on modeling the UEs' decision making behavior, namely as to whether they are willing/able to share genuine information, even though this directly affects the information credibility across the network. Hence, we propose a game theoretic framework for the associated information credibility modelling by taking into account the users’ information sharing strategies and utilities. This framework is investigated under both a homogeneous model and a heterogeneous model. The spontaneous information credibility equilibria of both models are derived and analyzed, including the closed-form analysis of the homogeneous model based on a sophisticated evolutionary game model and on the reinforcement learning based analysis of the heterogeneous model. Moreover, a credit mechanism is designed for encouraging the UEs to share genuine information. Experimental results relying on real-world data traces support our utility function formulation, while our simulation results verify the theoretical analysis and show that all UEs are encouraged by the proposed algorithm to share genuine information with a probability of one, when a credit mechanism is invoked. The proposed modelling techniques may be applied in diverse cooperative networks, including classic wireless networks, vehicular networks, as well as social networks

Downlink channel estimation for massive MIMO systems relying on vector approximate message passing

    No full text
To reduce the pilot overhead of downlink channel estimation in massive multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) systems, a sparse recovery algorithm relying on the vector approximate message passing (VAMP) technique is proposed. More specifically, an a-priori channel model characterized by a multivariate Bernoulli-Gaussian distribution is invoked for exploiting the common sparsity of massive MIMO channels, and the VAMP technique is used for jointly estimating the spatially correlated channels. Moreover, the hyperparameters of the a-priori model are learned by invoking the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. Our numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is capable of reducing the pilot overhead by 50% in massive MIMO systems

Strange Encounters on the Cantonese Frontier: Region and Gender in Kuang Lu's (1604-1650) Chiya

    No full text
This article analyzes Chiya, a short text produced in the 1630s that describes the southwestern province of Guangxi. In assessing the motivations of the author, Kuang Lu, this article takes a number of perspectives related to region and gender. Kuang was a pioneering Cantonese travel writer who visited Guangxi under unusual circumstances. He describes in exotic and fantastical terms an area largely inhabited by indigenous peoples that was nevertheless in the process of being incorporated into a Cantonese-centered regional economy. In passages on witches and a female warrior, however, Kuang entertains readers with gender, ethnic, and regional inversions. These inversions ultimately functioned as a means of constructing an image of masculine eccentricity

Mongol rule over Hu-kuang 湖廣 Province during the Yüan Dynasty

    No full text
Previous scholars have doubted whether the southern part of the Ch’ang-chiang 長江 was entirely under Mongol rule during the Yüan dynasty. How was Hu-kuang Province controlled under Yüan?Most of the cities in Hu-kuang Province surrendered to the Yüan army with the fall of the Sung dynasty, except for the cities inhabited by many non-Chinese minorities in this region. During the first twenty years after the beginning of Yüan rule the minorities rebelled on numerous occasions, so the Yüan dynasty had to maintain a structure of government geared to fighting the rebels until under the reign of Ch’eng- tsung 成宗, the second emperor of the Yüan dynasty, when these rebellions were finally suppressed. During the reign of Ch’eng-tsung the t’un-t’ien 屯田 system was introduced, and soldiers were stationed for defense. On the bases of this evidence the author concludes that it was after this that the Yüan extended its rule over the whole of Hu-kuang.From this time on the minorities came under Yüan rule. Most of the minority tribes that rebelled were not punished and their chiefs were given official rank and granted self-government, as t’u-ssu 土司. The Yüan government found it impossible to conduct a census of the minorities which meant that except for military service, the land and corvée taxes could not be imposed. This indicates that the Yüan dynasty did not have force enough to directly control them. But there was another reason for the establishment of the t’u-ssu system. The climatic and geographical position of this area was unsuitable for northern Chinese and Mongolians, and many people refused to serve as officials there.Although the Yüan dynasty did not directly rule all parts of Hu-kuang, we Should not overlook the part the minorities played in the Yüan military service and t'un-t'ion systems. It was also from this time onwards that the minorities came to increasingly adopt Chinese manners and customs.journal articl

    Tao-yen 道衍(Yao Kuang-hsiao 姚廣孝)'s Life

    No full text
T'ai tsung (太宗), the Second Emperor of the Ming (明), made his way to the throne by disloyal means, i.e. the Ching-nan (靖難) Rebellion. And the ringleader of this rebellion is asserted to be the Buddhist monk, Tao-yen, 1335-1418. Afterwards he was "graciously permitted" to return to secular life by the supreme commond of the emperor and then given the name of Yao Kuang-hsiao. But it is said he still continued to live the rigorous religious life. The author deals in this article with his activities as a monk, his works on Buddhism, especially on the doctrine of the Ching-t'u (淨土) sect, and his "Tao-yu-lu" (道餘錄) written against Confucian attacks on Buddhism. Finally, the author tries to make cIear his part in Buddhist affairs under the earIy Ming dynasty

Tendo como ponto de partida Fairclough (1995) e Tymockzo (2003) e a base teórica supracitada, é estabelecido um diálogo sobre as relações entre poder, língua e traduçãoUsing the approach of Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 1995), the present paper seeks to show how translation serves as a colonial instrument within the context of the novel Babel, or the need for violence: an arcane history of the Oxford translators' revolution (2022), by author R.F. Kuang, translated by Marina Vargas (Intrínseca, 2024). Based on the theoretical contributions of Said (1999), Grigoletto (2000), Ferreira (2015), Niranjana (1994) and Guo (2019; 2022), an analysis is made of selected passages from the novel, with the aim of establishing a discussion on the instrumentalization of translation and translators by the British Empire in the 19th century, the period in which the work is set. Using Fairclough (1995) and Tymockzo (2003) as a starting point, and the aforementioned theoretical basis, a dialogue is established on the relationships between power, language and translatio
