Morphological and molecular characteristics of Kudoa scomberomori (Myxosporea: Kudoidae) firstly foundfrom the muscles of info-pacific king mackerel Scomberomorus guttatus in Quang Binh province, Vietnam
The genus Kudoa includes about 100 described species. In Vietnam, so far, only one species, Kudoa monodactyli, has been reported. During servey for parasites of marine fish in Quang Binh province, Vietnam in 2017, we found Myxozoan samples in 8 out of 15 Indo-Pacific king mackerel (Scomberomorus guttatus). They are identified as K. scomberomori based on the results of morphological and molecular analyses. A great number of individual spores form white pseudocysts with thin membrane within the muscle fibre. The pseudocysts were 0.1-0.3 × 0.4-0.7 mm. The shape of fresh spore like a flower petal. The spore of K. scomberomori was 6.65 ± 0.09 (6.53-6.76) µm in length, 7.42 ± 0.13 (7.29-7.58) µm in width and 6.55 ± 0.11 (6.40-6.65) µm in thickness. Each spore has six shell valves with same size. Each shell valve contained one polar capsule measuring 3.42 ± 0.09 (3.32-3.48) µm in length and 1.30 ± 0.14 (1.14-1.46) µm in width. This is the first report of K. scomberomori in Vietnam and Indo-Pacific king mackerel is recorded as a new host for this species. H3 Acetylation-Induced Basal Progenitor Generation and Neocortex Expansion Depends on the Transcription Factor Pax6
Enrichment of basal progenitors (BPs) in the developing neocortex is a central driver of cortical enlargement. The transcription factor Pax6 is known as an essential regulator in generation of BPs. H3 lysine 9 acetylation (H3K9ac) has emerged as a crucial epigenetic mechanism that activates the gene expression program required for BP pool amplification. In this current work, we applied immunohistochemistry, RNA sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing, and the yeast two-hybrid assay to reveal that the BP-genic effect of H3 acetylation is dependent on Pax6 functionality in the developing mouse cortex. In the presence of Pax6, increased H3 acetylation caused BP pool expansion, leading to enhanced neurogenesis, which evoked expansion and quasi-convolution of the mouse neocortex. Interestingly, H3 acetylation activation exacerbates the BP depletion and corticogenesis reduction effect of Pax6 ablation in cortex-specific Pax6 mutants. Furthermore, we found that H3K9 acetyltransferase KAT2A/GCN5 interacts with Pax6 and potentiates Pax6-dependent transcriptional activity. This explains a genome-wide lack of H3K9ac, especially in the promoter regions of BP-genic genes, in the Pax6 mutant cortex. Together, these findings reveal a mechanistic coupling of H3 acetylation and Pax6 in orchestrating BP production and cortical expansion through the promotion of a BP gene expression program during cortical development

All patients underwent preoperative 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging examinations with conventional and DTI sequences. Data on preoperative imaging and pre- and postoperative clinical characteristics of patients were retrospectively collected. Univariate and multivariate linear regressions were applied to analyze the relationships between preoperative parameters and pre- and postoperative muscle strength and the Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) score.Results: Fourteen patients had low-grade gliomas and 29 had high-grade gliomas. Although the corticospinal tract (CST) score did not differ significantly between tumor grades, edema and deviation were common in low-grade gliomas (64.3%), while destroyed and infiltrated lesions were common in high-grade gliomas (58.6%). Muscle strength improved after surgery in the deviated tract group (40%) more than in the infiltrated tract group (33.3%). Two independent indices, preoperative muscle strength (p = 0.000) and glioma-to-CST distance (p = 0.001), were linearly related to postoperative muscle strength. The preoperative KPS score was the only indicator that affected the postoperative KPS score (p = 0.000).Conclusion: DTI should be considered in surgical management of supratentorial gliomas in the motor function area to determine the appropriate surgical strategy and predict the nature of the tumor and postoperative motor function.Keywords: diffusion tensor imaging, supratentorial glioma, preoperative planning, surgical outcomes, motor corte
Understanding the transmission dynamics of a large-scale measles outbreak in Southern Vietnam
OBJECTIVES: Southern Vietnam experienced a large measles outbreak of over 26,000 cases during 2018-2020. We aimed to understand and quantify the measles spread in space-time dependence and the transmissibility during the outbreak. METHODS: Measles surveillance reported cases between January 2018 and June 2020, vaccination coverage, and population data at provinicial level were used. To illustrate the spatio-temporal pattern of disease spread, we employed the endemic-epidemic multivariate time series model decomposing measles risk additively into autoregressive, spatio-temporal, and endemic components. Likelihood-based estimation procedures were performed to determine the time-varying reproductive number Re of measles. RESULTS: Our analysis showed that the incidence of measles was associated with vaccination coverage heterogeneity and spatial interaction between provincial units. The risk of infections was dominated by between-province transmission (36.1% to 78.8%), followed by local endogenous transmission (4.1% to 61.5%). In contrast, the endemic behavior had a relatively small contribution (2.4% to 33.4%) across provinces. In the exponential phase of the epidemic, Re was above the threshold with a maximum value of 2.34 (95% CI: 2.20-2.46). CONCLUSION: Local vaccination coverage and human mobility are important factors contributing to the measles dynamics in Southern Vietnam, and the high risk of inter-provincial transmission is of most concern. Within the family archives of Marcelino Truong, renowned illustrator and author of graphic novels, we have found the letters that his maternal grandmother, Madame Denise Horel, received from Pham Duy Khiem concerning the preparation of the novel Nam et Sylvie, in addition to two typed versions of this story. We propose to study this genetic file of Nam et Sylvie and to analyze the final stages in Pham Duy Khiem’s writing process in taking into account the 120 letters the writer sent to his friend and the two typed versions that she saved
Properties and applications of epoxy-functional polyolefins synthesized by reactive extrusion
In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde die di-tert-Butylperoxid initiierte Epoxy-Funktionalisierung von High Density Polyethylen (HDPE) und Polypropylen (PP) mit Glycidylmethacrylat (GMA) durch Reaktivextrusion untersucht.Gepfropfte Proben wurden mit einem Miniextruder mit zwei gleichlaufenden Schnecken hergestellt. Pfropfgrad (PG) und Propfausbeute wurden mittels FT-IR Spektroskopie ermittelt. Der Einfluß der Prozessparameter, sowie der Monomer- und Initiatorkonzentrationen wurde untersucht.Als optimale Prozessparameter zum Pfropfen von GMA auf Polyolefine wurden folgende Daten ermittelt: Reaktionstemperatur 210 °C (HDPE) und 260 °C (PP), Schneckendrehzahl 90 min-1 (HDPE) und 80 min-1 (PP), und Reaktionszeit 5 min (HDPE, PP). Mit ansteigender Monomer- und Initatorkonzentration erhöhte sich der DG. Beim Pfropfen von GMA auf PP wurden im Vergleich zu HDPE niedrigere DG erhalten.Thermische Analysen, Zugversuche und Kontaktwinkelmessungen zeigten, dass das Pfropfen zu einem Anstieg der Bruchdehnung, einem Sinken der Kristallinität und einem Ansteigen der polaren Oberflächenenergie führte.GMA gepfropftes PP wurde als Kompatibilisierungsmittel für Blends aus PP und Ethylen-Vinylalkohol-Copolymer (EVOH) verwendet.Blends mit unterschiedlichen Verhältnissen von PP und EVOH wurden hergestellt. Proben mit 5 20 m% PP g GMA wurden durch reaktives Schmelzpfropfen hergestellt.Die Ringöffnung der Epoxidgruppe resultierte in einer kovalenten Bindung von PP g GMA auf EVOH und wurde durch FT-IR Analysen bestätigt. Die guten Kompatibilisierungs¬eigenschaften von PP g GMA zeigten sich in den thermischen, morphologischen und mechanischen Eigenschaften der Blends.Erste Expermiente zur stromlosen Metallisierung zeigten, dass Polyolefine ohne Vorbehandlung vernickelt werden konnten.In the present work, the epoxy-functionalization of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) with glycidylmethacrylate (GMA), initiated by di-tert-butyl-peroxide by "reactive polymer processing" was investigated. Grafted samples were prepared using a co-rotating mini extrusion equipment. FT-IR spectroscopy was applied to investigate the degree of grafting (DG) and grafting yields. The effect of processing parameters and the influence of monomer and initiator concentration were investigated. The optimal processing parameters for grafting of GMA onto the polyolefins were found to be as follows: reaction temperature 210°C (HDPE) and 260°C (PP), screw speed 90 rpm (HDPE) and 80 rpm (PP), and reaction time 5 min (HDPE, PP). DG increased with increasing monomer and initiator concentration. Compared to HDPE grafting of GMA onto PP resulted in lower degrees of grafting.Thermal analysis, tensile test and contact angle measurement showed that grafting resulted in an increase of elongation at break, a decrease of crystallinity and the increase of the polar part surface energy.GMA grafted PP was used as compatibilizer in polypropylene and ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) blends.Blends were produced with different aspect ratios between PP and EVOH.Samples combining 5-20 wt% PP-g-GMA were prepared by reactive melt blending. The epoxy ring opening reaction resulting in covalent bonding of PP-g-GMA to EVOH was proved by FTIR analysis. The good compatibilizing effect of PP-g-GMA was shown by thermal, morphology and mechanical properties of the blends. Preliminary electroless metallization experiments have been revealed and the epoxy-functional polyolefin could be nickel plated without any pre-treatment.<br /
An innovative and smart agriculture platform for improving the coffee value chain and supply chain
Vietnam is the world’s second biggest producer of coffee and has been an exporter for several decades. However, Vietnam has been facing many well-documented issues and challenges in the whole coffee supply chain such as climate change; low productivity, poor quality and high cost; excessive use of fertilizing products and irrigations; poor collection, processing and storage solution; low sustainability and limited value-added coffee products; and low applications of smart and sustainable agriculture solutions. This paper introduces an innovative and smart agriculture (INNSA) platform for the creation and operation of a sustainable coffee value chain, with the focus on enhanced quality and added values for key elements of the coffee supply chain in Vietnam. The platform is designed based on the foundations of the key enabling digital transformation and smart agriculture technologies: Smart devices and Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain and source traceability technologies, and sustainable design and manufacturing. The INNSA platform has the following key features: a smart database with real-time data inputs and updates, cost-effectiveness, and open-architectures for effective integrations of the enabling digital transformation and smart agriculture technologies. The smart platform and ecosystem of INNSA provides the information portal and open-access database for all key factors of coffee supply chain, enabling them to join and interact with each other to bring the coffee industry of Vietnam to a higher level, well-recognized in terms of values, branding and sustainability
