Characteristics of the Jinwuwei and Its Relationship to the Xingjun System
This article analyzes the relationship between the Jinwuwei 金吾衛, which was one of the twelve central guards (Shierwei 十二衛), and the system of the army in the field (Xingjun 行軍), through an examination of Tang period tactical manuals, like Taibaiyin-jing 太白陰経, and the statutes concerning the duties of Jinwuwei contained in Tongdian (通典).The research to date argues that since the main duty of the Jinwuwei was to patrol the capital palace, it was more a security police force than an army regiment. This notion is based on Tangliudian 唐六典, by and large an explanation of various Tang institutions. However, according to Tongdian, the majority of the statutes concerning the duties of Jinwuwei was derived from the Xingjun system as described in the Tang tactical manuals.During the Beizhao 北朝 and Sui-Tang periods, whenever an army in the field was organized, a unit called yuhoujun 虞候軍 was usually formed within it to take charge of reconnaissance and sentry duties during military operations, the same duties entrusted to the Jinwuwei. In other words, the main purpose of the Jinwuwei was to guard the Emperor like a yuhoujun unit, whenever he journeyed away from the capital. The author concludes that the Jinwuwei should be considered essentially a yuhoujun unit within the Shierwei, the army in the field (Xingjun) under the direct command of the Emperor.journal articl
Discovery and validation of molecular patterns and immune characteristics in the peripheral blood of ischemic stroke patients

Background: Stroke is a disease with high morbidity, disability, and mortality. Immune factors play a crucial role in the occurrence of ischemic stroke (IS), but their exact mechanism is not clear. This study aims to identify possible immunological mechanisms by recognizing immune-related biomarkers and evaluating the infiltration pattern of immune cells.

Methods: We downloaded datasets of IS patients from GEO, applied R language to discover differentially expressed genes, and elucidated their biological functions using GO, KEGG analysis, and GSEA analysis. The hub genes were then obtained using two machine learning algorithms (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-REF)) and the immune cell infiltration pattern was revealed by CIBERSORT. Gene-drug target networks and mRNA-miRNA-lncRNA regulatory networks were constructed using Cytoscape. Finally, we used RT-qPCR to validate the hub genes and applied logistic regression methods to build diagnostic models validated with ROC curves.

Results: We screened 188 differentially expressed genes whose functional analysis was enriched to multiple immune-related pathways. Six hub genes (ANTXR2, BAZ2B, C5AR1, PDK4, PPIH, and STK3) were identified using LASSO and SVM-REF. ANTXR2, BAZ2B, C5AR1, PDK4, and STK3 were positively correlated with neutrophils and gamma delta T cells, and negatively correlated with T follicular helper cells and CD8, while PPIH showed the exact opposite trend. Immune infiltration indicated increased activity of monocytes, macrophages M0, neutrophils, and mast cells, and decreased infiltration of T follicular helper cells and CD8 in the IS group. The ceRNA network consisted of 306 miRNA-mRNA interacting pairs and 285 miRNA-lncRNA interacting pairs. RT-qPCR results indicated that the expression levels of BAZ2B, C5AR1, PDK4, and STK3 were significantly increased in patients with IS. Finally, we developed a diagnostic model based on these four genes. The AUC value of the model was verified to be 0.999 in the training set and 0.940 in the validation set.

Conclusion: Our research explored the immune-related gene expression modules and provided a specific basis for further study of immunomodulatory therapy of IS.

Fan and Ventilation Rate Monitoring of Cage-Free Layer Houses in California
Ventilation rates were continuously monitored in two cage-free layer houses located in California from March 1, 2012 to May 13, 2013. The average number of brown Lohmann laying hens in each house was 33,300. Temperature, relative humidity, static pressure, and running status of 48 ventilation fans were continuously monitored and recorded every minute. Regression models were developed to relate house temperature and ventilation rate to inlet air temperature, and to relate airflow rate to building static pressure (R2 = 0.98). Results showed that the daily mean ventilation rate per hen ranged from 1.91 to 8.72 m3 h-1 hen-1, averaging at 4.49 ±1.53 m3 h-1 hen-1. The standard uncertainty of daily mean ventilation rate was determined to be 3.7%. The 91-cm and 130-cm fans were found to perform at 82% and 63% of the manufacturer rated airflow rates, respectively. The minimum and maximum static pressure was 11.0 and 50.6 Pa, respectively, corresponding to 2 and 16 running tunnel fans. When the house temperature exceeded 30ºC, an evaporative cooling system was activated, which could reduce the inlet air temperature by 6.3ºC and concurrently increased the indoor air humidity ratio by 3.4 g per kg dry air. Cooling pad efficiency was 66%. The sidewall fans and tunnel fans were operated at 65% and 20% of the total time when layers occupied the houses. The new rational formula to calculate dry base ventilation rates was developed based upon the ratio of water vapor volume to moist air volume. The developed models and data collected in this research can be used to calculate the ventilation rates in cage-free layer houses so that it can be possible to assure healthy conditions needed for layers. They can also be used in the design of cage free houses and in the calculations of emissions of air pollutants from these houses. This article is published as Lin, Xingjun, Ruihong Zhang, Shumei Jiang, Hamed M. Twisted Verlinde formula for vertex operator algebras
For a rational and -cofinite vertex operator algebra with an
automorphism group of prime order, the fusion rules for twisted -modules
are studied, a twisted Verlinde formula which relates fusion rules for
-twisted modules to the -matrix in the orbifold theory is established. As
an application of the twisted Verlinde formula, a twisted analogue of the
Kac-Walton formula is proved, which gives fusion rules between twisted modules
of affine vertex operator algebras in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients
associated to the corresponding finite dimensional simple Lie algebras.Comment: 48 page

Photonic Integration Circuits in China
Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) technologies in China have made rapid progress in the past decade. In this paper, recent advances and future prospective of PICs in China are introduced and discussed, respectively. More than nine major projects in the field of PICs have been issued. Various material platforms and technologies have been developed to realize photonic integrated devices for many applications focusing on broadband communication, such as optical and wireless network, optical interconnects, and optical coherent communication. Many research achievements and breakthrough have been made under the support of these projects, such as silicon photonics transceiver, InP- based transceiver, and optical and microwave signal processing chips. It can be expected that the PICs technology will be continuously supported in the next five years, since it has been considered as one of the key enabling technologies for supporting several national major assignments and strategies, such as broadband communication, supercomputing and datacenter.National Natural Science Foundation of China [61321063, 61090390, 61522509, 61535012]; National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China [2011AA010303, 2011AA010305]; Thousand Young Talent ProgramSCI(E)[email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]
