The Tyrosine Phosphatase CD148 is Excluded from the Immunologic Synapse and Down-regulates Prolonged T Cell Signaling
?? Joseph Lin and Arthur Weis, 2011. Originally published in The Journal of Cell Biology. doi: 10.1083/jcb.200303040.CD148 is a receptor-like protein tyrosine phosphatase\ud
up-regulated on T cells after T cell receptor\ud
(TCR) stimulation. To examine the physiologic role\ud
of CD148 in TCR signaling, we used an inducible CD148-\ud
expressing Jurkat T cell clone. Expression of CD148 inhibits\ud
NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells) activation induced\ud
by soluble anti-TCR antibody, but not by antigen-presenting\ud
cells (APCs) loaded with staphylococcal enterotoxin superantigen\ud
(SAg) or immobilized anti-TCR antibody. Immunofluorescence\ud
microscopy revealed that the extracellular\ud
C\ud
domain of CD148 mediates its exclusion from the immunologic\ud
synapse, sequestering it from potential substrates.\ud
Targeting of the CD148 phosphatase domain to the immunologic\ud
synapse potently inhibited NFAT activation by all\ud
means of triggering through the TCR. These data lead us to\ud
propose a model where CD148 function is regulated in\ud
part by exclusion from substrates in the immunologic synapse.\ud
Upon T cell???APC disengagement, CD148 can then\ud
access and dephosphorylate substrates to down-regulate\ud
prolongation of signaling. This work was supported in part by research funds from the state of California

Rathalos treecko Lin & Zhao & Koh & Li 2022, comb. nov.
Rathalos treecko (Lin & Li, 2021) comb. nov. Anyphaena treecko Lin & Li, In: Lin et al., 2021: 101, figs 9A–C, 10A–B, 14I–J. Material examined. Holotype ♂ (IZCAS-Ar42404), China: Hainan, Changjiang County, Bawangling, Dongsizhan (19.0495°N, 109.1157°E), 23 April 2009, G. Tang leg. (examined). Paratypes. 2♀ (IZCAS-Ar42405–Ar42406), same data as holotype (examined). Diagnosis. See Lin et al. (2021). Description. See Lin et al. (2021). Distribution. China (Hainan). Comments. The cymbial apophysis, the triangular epigyne and the straight copulatory duct indicate that this species belongs to Rathalos Lin & Li, gen. nov. Thus, we transfer it from Anyphaena to Rathalos Lin & Li, gen. nov.Published as part of Lin, Yejie, Zhao, Huifeng, Koh, Joseph K H & Li, Shuqiang, 2022, Taxonomy notes on twenty-eight spider species (Arachnida: Araneae) from Asia, pp. 198-270 in Zoological Systematics 47 (3) on page 201, DOI: 10.11865/zs.2022303, http://zenodo.org/record/717585
The c-SMAC: Sorting It All Out (or in)
?? Lin, Joseph, Mark Miller, and Andrey Shaw. 2005. Originally published in The Journal of Cell Biology. doi: 10.1083/jcb.200503032.T cells integrate and transduce the key signals necessary\ud
to mount an appropriate immune response. To do this,\ud
they rely on both secreted factors as well as physical cell???\ud
cell contact. Much attention has focused on the organization\ud
of proteins at the contact area between a T cell and an\ud
antigen-presenting cell, known as the immunological\ud
synapse. It has been shown in vitro that proteins segregate\ud
into two distinct regions within this contact area, a central\ud
area referred to as the c-SMAC, where the T cell receptor\ud
and associated signaling molecules are enriched, and a\ud
peripheral region called the p-SMAC containing LFA-1\ud
and the scaffolding protein talin. Whether or not these\ud
structures form in vivo and how they function in T cell\ud
activation remain issues of great interest. Here, we review\ud
recently published work and propose several possible\ud
functions for the role of the c-SMAC in T cell activation
Histoire Complete de Joseph
The Joseph story in Genesis was a subject of great interest to Syriac writers, and in this volume Bedjan presents the Syriac text (in vocalized East Syriac script) of a lengthy and highly praised poem on the subject, sometimes attributed to Ephrem, but more recently to the fifth-century author Balai. The poem consists of twelve homilies (memre) in the 7 + 7 meter, the subjects of which are: 1. On jealousy and the sale of Joseph, 2. Bringing his coat to his father, 3. Going down to Egypt and his sale to Potiphar, 4. His temptation, 5. His imprisonment, 6. His exaltation, 7. His brothers going down to Egypt, 8. Benjamin going down to Egypt, 9. Joseph revealing himself to his brothers, 10. News of Joseph reaching his father, 11. The death of Jacob, and 12. Joseph’s death. An appendix contains a poem on the translation of Joseph’s bones
