Taiwan’s democratic progressive party and its mainland china policy
Taiwan has successfully changed its political system from dictatorship into a democracy since the end of 1980s. Some people do not like 'Taiwan's democracy' -some candidates get elected by bribery in election, parliamentary fighting., but the majority of the Taiwanese people really enjoy their freedom in their homeland. They do know, at least, they have the right to oppose the government, no one would be shot by the national military force in a demonstration. The political systems are totally different between Taiwan and Mainland China, one is democracy, another is communism. Even the majority of the Taiwanese people are Chinese in ethnic origin, but their life experience are different over the past 50 years, it is difficult for any side to persuade the other side which one is better. Some Chinese Taiwanese people believe that they can have a better life, if their homeland—Taiwan can be really independent in the international community. Taiwan’s political opposition built Taiwan's first opposition party— Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) 13 years ago, and with the dream of establishing a new independent country on Taiwan. The establishment of the DPP is the result of the political opposition movement in Taiwan. Most of the members of the DPP have a strong Taiwanese identity, which is very different from the ruling KMT in Taiwan and the ruling CCP in China. The DPP gains more influence in Taiwan, the uncertainty across the Taiwan Straits increase at the same time. The DPP waited and saw between being the ruling party and establishing an independent country on Taiwan, finally it chose to complete the political aim of replacing the position of the KMT at present. The purpose of the study is to assess the DPP's policy-making in its Mainland China policy. I try to give a full picture of the policy-making process in the party. The most important factor in the formulation of the mainland China policy is the relationship between the factions within the DPP, therefore, I adopt the historical and document review approach on doing this study, and describe how the interaction between the factions worked and how they made the decisions on the policies? I found that the DPP will insist on its 'one Taiwan, one China' policy before becoming the ruling party in Taiwan. However, the DPP's insistence on the 'one China, one Taiwan' policy could bring conflicts across the Taiwan Straits and obstruct the possibility of replacing the ruling KMT's position. Hence the DPP tried to explain again the party's Taiwan independence platform, and to 'purify' the party’s ideology in order to achieve its present political aim. Because the cross-Straits relationship is still developing, the DPP's mainland policy would be affected by various factors across the Taiwan Straits. There is no final text of the DPP's mainland China policy at present. Therefore, I predict the future development of its China policy could tend in two ways. Firstly, if the cross-Straits exchanges increase, and Beijing reduces its hostility, the DPP's stand of 'one Taiwan, one China' will become more flexible, and it would keep on developing a more perfect China policy. Secondly, if the cross-Straits exchanges decrease, and Beijing increases the force of threatening to Taipei, the DPP's stand of 'one Taiwan, one China' policy will be more radical, even though it would not turn its back on the business affairs. At the end of this work, I suggest the DPP rethink its insistence on a Taiwanese independence position, this could not break Taiwan's isolation in international community, but could endanger Taiwan's security. As the factional fight has reduced the force of the DPP, to condense the powers of the party would be an important issue for the DPP
Application of the Symmetric Model to the Design Optimization of Fan Outlet Grills (SCI; 2017 JCR Science Edition; IF:2.143)Symmetry.
[[abstract]]In this study, different designs of the opening pattern of computer fan grills were investigated. The objective of this study was to propose a simulation analysis and compare it to the experimental results for a set of optimized fan designs. The FLUENT computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software was used to analyze the fan blade flow. The experimental results obtained by the simulation analysis of the optimized fan designs were analyzed and compared. The effect of different opening pattern designs on the resulting airflow rate was investigated. Six types of fans with different grills were analyzed. The airflow velocity distribution in the simulated flow channel indicated that the wind speed efficiency of the fan and its influence were comparable with the experimental model. The air was forced by the fan into the air duct. The flow path was separately measured by analog instruments. The three-dimensional flow field was determined by performing a wind speed comparison on nine planes containing the mainstream velocity vector. Moreover, the three-dimensional curved surface flow field at the outlet position and the highest fan rotation speed were investigated. The air velocity distribution at the inlet and the outlet of the fan indicated that among the air outlet opening designs, the honeycomb shaped air outlet displayed the optimal performance by investigating the fan characteristics and the estimated wind speed efficiency. These optimized designs were the most ideal configurations to compare these results. The air flow rate was evenly distributed at the fan inlet
Kingdom of Wealth— the Ink Painting Creation of Lin, Hung-Hsin
[[abstract]] The arguments, fights, and disintegration between the arts of traditional Chinese ink paintings and modern arts lead the two genres to borrow from each other, blend and reunite again. This phenomenon helps the nature of creation interpret traditional cultures in a variety of contemporary ways. This kind of creation is always personally favored by the author.
The author is hoping to integrate the perspectives of traditional Chinese ink paintings with the trend of modern arts in the study, blending the decoration, aesthetics, and design of traditional patterns into the structure and style of the author’s personal paintings. In this way, the author may bring new elements into his artworks, seek the cause in history and culture to free himself from the limitation of art genres and obtain new energy to interpret arts in a whole new way. New expressions and techniques may be borrowed from other genres of arts to increase the variety of ink paintings. Another technique is grafting, which farmers attach twigs or buds of the wanted living plant to the branches of other plants. This method enables ink paintings to have a new life, absorb various art styles and keep its characteristics alive. In this case, theories, perspectives, techniques, and forms of foreign arts may be greatly internalized to create ink artworks better conforming to the spirit of contemporary arts.
The work created in this study adopts these two methods. Firstly, “seeking the cause.” The study tries to create a new visionary artwork by utilizing and reuniting peonies, a symbol of wealth, and the patterns on royal clothing of Ching Dynasty, a symbol of power in Chinese traditional values. Secondly, “grafting.” The work is grafted onto the creative ideas of post-modernism. Contemporary trademarks or logos of popular products are placed in the work to give it a new meaning. The trademarks4 or logos may be blended into Chinese traditional patterns or be presented alone. The work is aimed at presenting the deconstruction, moral lessons, uncertainty, and irony of post-modernism by means of flat, decorative, and repetitive illustrations and pictures. In terms of exterior forms, the work is expected to be a successful combination of traditional ink painting spirit and contemporary messages in accordance with the demands of viewpoints.
Writing a Wikipedia Article on Cultural Competence in Health Care
This article describes how librarians created a Wikipedia article on cultural competence in health care to support the medical school’s curriculum. Wikipedia, often considered not as reliable as scholarly articles, continues to be popular. Rutgers librarians conducted a Wikipedia project to improve its content to benefit students. The importance of cultural competency in health care is widely recognized due to increasingly diverse patient populations. Medical schools integrate cultural competency in curricula to train students to be culturally competent. Therefore, this topic was chosen for the Wikipedia Project. It is hoped that health sciences librarians and educators will benefit from their experience
