THE SELF-REFLECTION OF EMIGRANT IN AYN RAND’S ART WORKS
The article is devoted to the research of exile elements in Ayn Rand’s art works (the American
writer and philosopher from Russia Alissa Rozenbaum). The hypothesis of the survey is in the fact that Ayn
Rand in the texts takes the self-reflection as an emigrant. The author formulated two stages of Ayn Rand’s
reflection as an emigrant in the art works. The first stage encompasses the period when Ayn Rand freshly
emigrated in the USA and the trauma of the October revolution was actual. As a reflection of this emotions she wrote the novel We The Living (1936) that (as the author of the article demonstrates gradually) fits
organically in the exile literature of the first wave (M. Aldanov, I. Shmelev). The author concentrated on the
more detail comparative analysis of Ayn Rand’s first novel and the novel The Sun of Deads (1923) by another
Russian emigrant writer I. Shmelev. The author discovered the familiarity of the art images in these texts that reflected the pain of both
emigrants. Having different ideological opinions, Rand and Shmelev nevertheless are close to each other in the traumatic experience
of the October revolution. The second stage of Ayn Rand’s emigrant self-reflection is the period of “American novels” that (as it is believed) have no common with Russian reality. But in the novels The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) the layer of exile subtext
is evolved. It contains the allusion on the Soviet reality comprehended by the writer as the warning to the American capitalism. As the
result the author made the conclusion that Ayn Rand’s art texts ate the complicated mix of two mentalities (Russian and American ones)
that generates a new art model and is perspective for the research as an exile literature too. The results of the research can be used in
the practice of teaching at higher school education, on the special courses about the literature of Russian abroad. The methods of the
research are caused by its tasks and contains such traditional for the literary studies methods as biographical, cultural-historical, sociological, comparative-historical

Ayn Rand's Companions
Abstract
This essay reviews a recent book in the Blackwell Companions to Philosophy series: A Companion to Ayn Rand, edited by Gregory Salmieri and the late Allan Gotthelf. The author expresses his discontent with the volume's exclusion of many contributors who are not affiliated with the Ayn Rand Institute. He is displeased, as well, by the lack of any essays of a critical nature, which is a hallmark of other Companion-type works. His review focuses on six (out of eighteen) key essays in this volume: (1) Gregory Salmieri on both values and epistemology; (2) John David Lewis and Salmieri's discussion of Rand's political and cultural commentary; (3) Allan Gotthelf on the morality of life; (4) Harry Binswanger on aesthetics; (5) Jason Rheins on the Objectivist metaphysics; and (6) James Lennox on Rand's view of the history of philosophy.</jats:p
Start trip: (short feature film)
This short feature entitled Start trip was accomplished by Ayn Ledina, Bianca Lim and Daniel Solis, and submitted to De La Salle University\u27s Communication Department. The film Start trip is a 15-20 minute short-feature film surrounding a driver and three passengers blindsided by their own ambitions as they face unexpected dilemma together during a carpool service. This film is relevant because it is centered around the idea of our many human desires and aspirations something that we, as humans, naturally and continually worry about. Though a narrative of characters whom audiences can personally identify with, by the end of this film, viewers should be able to reflect on the value of companionship and selflessness in dealing with one\u27s burdens and, in turn, helping others deal with their own
A companion to Ayn Rand /
After an informative introduction and a brief biography of the Russian émigrée who went on to celebrate and defend her vision of the American way of life, each chapter of this Companion focuses on a different aspect of the philosophy she developed, or on a selection of her writings. Several chapters tackle her views on ethics and the metaphysical and epistemological foundations of her philosophy. Others examine Rand's thoughts on political theory, her approach to literature (as both theorist and author), and her acute analysis of contemporary events. Taken together, the chapters provide insight into Rand's distinctive worldview, offering a holistic approach to her body of work in relation to the fields she influenced. This publication provides a thorough, scholarly grounding in Rand's varied and highly original work, offering the most wide-ranging and up-to-date survey available. -- from back cover.Includes bibliographical references (pages 463-469) and index.Part I: Context -- An introduction to the study of Ayn Rand / Gregory Salmieri -- The life of Ayn Rand: Writing, reading, and related life events / Shoshana Milgram -- Part II: Ethics and human nature -- The act of valuing (and the objectivity of values) / Gregory Salmieri -- The morality of life / Allan Gotthelf (completed by Gregory Salmieri) -- A being of self-made soul / Onkar Ghate -- Egoism and altruism: Selfishness and sacrifice / Gregory Salmieri -- Part III: Society -- "A human society": Rand's social philosophy / Darryl Wright -- Political theory: A radical for capitalism / Fred D. Ayn Rand, Female Misogynist: A Study of Androgyny in Atlas Shrugged
Ayn Rand, renowned author of such titles as Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, based many of her heroines on her androgynist views derived from her upbringing and lifestyle. Parker balances her research mostly between Rand’s life and her female protagonist in Atlas Shrugged, Dagny Taggart. Taggart possesses some disdain for a few female characters in the novel, which reflects some of Rand’s lack of female friends due to anti-feministic opinions, the most notable identifying her own sex as weak and submissive. Ayn herself said that she based all of her characters off of a male hero in a children’s comic books series. Her negative experiences with trying to form these female friendships lead her to create these masculine heroines to escape from the overwhelming feminism she was experiencing. According to Parker, this explains why Ayn in fact did favor male dominance over females, which explains why many of her characters possess masculine character traits

Tästä huolimatta Rand lienee kuitenkin etenkin Yhdysvaltojen ulkopuolella eräs sellaisista ajattelijoista, joista monilla on mielipide, mutta jonka teoksia harva lopulta on lukenut.
This research introduces Ayn Rand's (1905-1982) life and career in a way that gives the reader a general understanding of Rand as a person, author and philosopher, while also providing an overview of the philosophical system of objectism she created. Rand's works have sold over thirty million copies worldwide and her philosophical system is still vibrant despite its controversial nature. Nonetheless, Rand is, particularly outside of the United States, one of the thinkers of whom many have an opinion on, but whose works have scarcely been troughly read.
From this standpoint, I opted for a central research question of how Ayn Rand's philosophical thinking is formed and what it deals with? I seek answers in three parts, the first of which first exhibits Rand's course of life. Second part continues to examine her career as well as her works as a writer of fiction and as a philosopher. The third part of the study focuses on Rand's philosophical system, objectivism, presenting the foundations and influences of objectivist theory and what elements it can be considered to consist of. At the end of the study, conclusions and observations have been presented regarding the research question.
The research material used in this study consist mainly of three distinct types of source material. The first is Rand's own work, second her posthumously published works and the third two new biographies. Additional sources include academic articles and literature offering insights to subject matter.
Typically, the results and conclusions of the research in the field of philosophy are not unambiguous or exhaustive. However, there is reasonable evidence to conclude that Rand's objectivism or its theoretical base do not meet the generally accepted requirements for scientific knowledge. On the other hand, the ethical, moral and social views expressed and formulated by Rand, especially in her fiction books, are still interesting and thought-provoking despite his polemic and dramatic nature.unknown accessibilityei tietoa saavutettavuudest
