    The Lieberman Windner Family Collection holds papers and correspondence of Marianne Lieberman and her ancestors as well as photographs. Prominent topics are the art of Marianne Lieberman and the probable murder of Hedwig Lieberman under the Nazi euthanasia program. The collection comprises official documents and personal and official correspondence.The Lieberman Windner Family Collection is arranged in three series and includes copies of the body of work by the artist Marianne Lieberman (née Windner) and some personal and official documents of Marianne Lieberman’s family. Particularly prominent in this collection are official documents of the Nazi institutions in Vienna and papers relating to the murder of Marianne Lieberman’s aunt Hedwig Lieberman under the Nazi euthanasia program.Marianne Lieberman, March 2002Marianne Lieberman née Windner was born in Vienna on January 22, 1927, the daughter of Leopold and Adelheid (née Zabota) Windner. Her father, who was Jewish according to the Nuremberg Laws, fled from Vienna – first to Switzerland, then via Italy and France to the United States. Marianne Lieberman and her mother lived in Maribor, then Yugoslavia, from summer 1939 to 1941.Marianne Lieberman attended the Michelbeuern School of Design and Dressmaking in Vienna from 1945 to 1947. In 1947 she and her mother immigrated to New York, which they reached on August 20, 1947. Until the early 1950s she worked as a dressmaker in New York. In 1950 she married Gerald Lieberman with whom she moved to Charlotte, NC, in 1952. Since the 1960s she is an artist and has predominantly worked in the field of lithography.Bernhard Windner (* 1838 in Pressburg) and Julie Windner née Goldstein (* 1845 in Neutra) had five sons and one daughter, who were all born between 1870 and 1885 in Vienna. The daughter, Hedwig Windner (1879 – 1941) was killed by the Nazis under their euthanasia program.
