Annual Data: This includes three sets of annual data covering the period 2001-2020: Simple model output averaging (SMA), Bayesian model averaging (BMA), and machine learning (ML).2. Global Land Area: It provides land area (km2) for each grid cell spanning from +90 degrees to -60 degrees, corresponding to areas with available water availability (WA) data.3. Aridity Index (AI): The AI represents the ratio of mean annual precipitation to potential evapotranspiration, with a higher value indicating a wetter climate.4. Trend Data: This section presents trends in WA derived from SMA, BMA, ML, and their ensemble mean. Additionally, trends in leaf area index obtained from MOD15A2 are included.5. WA-SOI Correlation: The correlation between water availability (WA) and the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI).6. Precipitation Contribution Ratio: This file offers the contribution ratio of precipitation as determined by SMA.7. Spreadsheets: Includes data for Figure 1A and Figures 2D and 2E.The MATLAB (R2021a) code files consist of:Fig1A.m: Code for Figure 1A.Fig1C.m: Code for Figure 1C.Fig2B_2C.m: Code for Figures 2B and 2C.Fig2D_2E.m: Code for Figures 2D and 2E.Fig3B.m: Code for Figure 3B.Fig3C.m: Code for Figure 3C.Should you have any further questions, please feel free to inquire Professor Yongqiang Zhang ([email protected]) and Ms Congcong Li ([email protected]).</p

High Wear Resistance of Magnetron Sputtered Cr80Si20N Nanocomposite Coatings: Almost Independent of Hardness
Hardness has been popularly considered as an essential factor defining the wear resistance of hard coatings. Here, we report magnetron sputtered Cr80Si20N nanocomposite coatings, of widely varied packing densities, that exhibited identical specific wear rates, while the hardness changed over a wide range (from similar to 12 to similar to 36 GPa). All the Cr80Si20N coatings were free of extended and uninterrupted columnar boundaries, and retained low specific wear rates in the ball-on-plate sliding tests against Al2O3 counterpart with a normal load of 5 N (less than 3.0 x 10(-16) m(3)/N m under ambient condition and less than 2.0 x 10(-15) m(3)/N m under 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, respectively). Post examination reveals extensive interruption or termination of cracks in the wear tracks of the under-dense coatings, indicative of extrinsic toughening mechanisms by effective relief of local contact stress. Our results suggest that a critical role of toughening rather than hardening, played in enhancing the wear resistance of hard coatings, and thus would pave a way to develop highly wear-resistant coatings with a low hardness
Synthesis and Mechanical Property Improvement of Ni-Doped TiB_2 Coatings
The Ni-doped TiB_2 coatings were synthesized by non-reactive dual-target magnetron sputtering on substrates of CORNING glass,Si(100) and M2 high speed steel. The influence of the deposition conditions, including but not limited to the bias voltage,argon-pressure and thickness,on the microstructures and mechanical properties of the coating was investigated with X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and conventional mechanical probes. The results show that the bias voltage has a major impact on the mechanical properties of the smooth, dense and compact hexagonal TiB_2-Ni coatings with no columnar grains. For instance, as the bias increased from - 30 to - 110 V,both the fracture-toughness and interfacial adhesion of the coatings increased. The favorable mechanical properties of the TiB_2-Ni coatings include a roughness below 1 nm,a hardness over 40 GPa,an increase of wear-resistance and a reduction of friction coefficient down to 0.5 ~ 0.6 range
Exploring the Self-Healing Capability and Fatigue Performance of Modified Bitumen Incorporating Waste Cooking Oil and Polyphosphoric Acid
Bitumen’s self-healing capability is critical to the bitumen industry’s sustainable development. This work attempts to examine the self-healing property and fatigue behavior of bitumen using waste cooking oil (WCO) and polyphosphoric acid (PPA) in bitumen modification. Different components of WCO were mixed with PPA and bitumen for the initial modification. The linear amplitude sweep (LAS) test was used to evaluate the fatigue behavior of the modified bitumen. To assess the extent of bitumen healing after a fatigue-healing test, evaluation indicators, including fatigue life recovery (FLR), modulus recovery (MR), and dissipated energy recovery (DER), were selected. Meanwhile, a radar chart was used to analyze the integrated performance of WCO/PPA (WP)-modified bitumen. Lastly, the SARA fractions were separated from the bitumen to evaluate the modification mechanism. It was observed that the inclusion of PPA and WCO enhanced fatigue behavior. For 2% PPA and an intermediate component (IC) of WCO, the fatigue life of the LAS prediction model showed extreme values, with an increase of 669% over virgin bitumen. Regardless of the PPA concentration, a considerable increase in FLR, MR, and DER was seen in the bitumen processed with IC compared to virgin bitumen. Additionally, as the healing time was extended, the increment in the virgin bitumen’s healing indicators was higher than that of the modified bitumen. SARA results indicated that adding PPA changes the bitumen from a soluble state to a gel state. An innovative approach has been proposed to promote sustainable development within the bitumen industry
