    A Study on the Garden Path Phenomenon from the Perspective of Generative Grammar

    Studies in the past mainly focus on the garden path phenomenon from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics. The adequacies of their explanations are different, but these theories are imperfect. This paper discusses the garden path phenomenon from the perspective of generative grammar. The author holds that the θ-attachment principle can analyze the reason of partial ambiguity of the garden path phenomenon effectively and the garden path phenomenon provides evidence for derivation by phase under the framework of MP in generative grammar. People can clarify the structure of the garden path phenomenon succinctly and enhance the understanding of language mechanism through the analysis of them from the perspective of generative grammar. The faculty of language, which is the biological object, must abide by organism operation law as well. The memories of human beings are limited and cannot load too many syntactic structures at one time. As a result, the faculty of language can simply deal with a limited structure at a time. Only the limited amount of structural information can be accommodated in the active memory and phased spelling can reduce the memory load.</jats:p

    A sequence-based method for dynamic reliability assessment of MPD systems

    Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) system is widely used in the deepwater drilling operation. Reliability assessment plays a critical role in the MPD system in the management of drilling operation risk and the prevention of blowouts. However, the reliability assessment of the MPD system is challenged due to its sequential operations and multiple processes. Consequently, the present work proposes a sequence-based dynamic reliability assessment method, which focuses on the dynamic modeling of sequential operations for the MPD system by integrating GO-FLOW and dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN). GO-FLOW models are firstly used to define the time interaction between multiple phases for complex systems. A sequence-based mapping method is also proposed for the DBN to construct the reliability model of the MPD system throughout the entire drilling cycle. In the end, the case study analyzed by the proposed framework indicates that the reliability of the MPD system decreases with increasing drilling depth, and the reliability of “tripping in” is highest among four different phases, while the “drilling process” is the lowest.     Transformative Model of Joint Education Program between Polish and Chinese Universities: Chance and Challenge

    Abstract This paper attempts to address current and emergent issues on the internationalization of higher education which arise from major transformation in both Poland and China. Reflecting on the increased university student population and growing demand for overseas study, joint education programs approved for Chinese universities in partnership with foreign universities need to face global pressures and local realities, with a focus on the internationalization of curriculum for program affordability and mutual mobility. Transformative model of joint education program is identified for consideration of chances and challenges, based on the current practice of Hubei University in collaboration with an Australian university.</jats:p
