Variation and ontogenetic changes of opercular paleae in a population of Sabellaria spinulosa (Polychaeta: Sabellaridae) from the South Adriatic Sea, with remarks on larval development

Sabellaria alcocki Gravier, 1906, described for the Indian Ocean, should not be present in the Mediterranean area. Though S. spinulosa alcocki, a Mediterranean variety, can be well-distinguished from S. alcocki, it has recently been referred to as S. alcocki. Thus, S. alcocki appears in the Italian coast checklist. The recent finding of S. spinulosa reefs along the southern Adriatic coast, the first report of these biogenic constructions in the Mediterranean area, allowed us to compare its morphological variability with that of S. alcocki. A morphometric analysis of the opercular paleae showed a great deal of intrapopulation, size-independent variation, which cannot justify the existence of varieties within S. spinulosa. Moreover, the analysis of post-settlement development showed that opercular features change during individual growth. Recently settled individuals resemble S. alcocki, while the more advanced life stages become closer to S. spinulosa. Accordingly, we hypothesize that part of the erroneous Mediterranean records of S. alcocki could correspond to specimens of S. spinulosa at different stages of development

Investigating Cyber Risks in a Surgical Process for Healthcare Cyber Resilience

    No full text
The critical role of cyber resilience in safeguarding critical infrastructure, particularly healthcare systems, necessitates the integration of cybersecurity risks into traditional risk assessments. This study revisits a previously published risk assessment for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) procedures, incorporating cyber risks as an emerging threat. The prioritization, classification, and evaluation processes are redone, considering cyber risks alongside traditional ones. The results are then compared to identify the relative importance of cyber risks and their impact on stakeholder risk perception within the healthcare system. Our findings reveal that cyber risks have become the primary threat to critical healthcare infrastructure. This necessitates an update to traditional risk evaluations, established standards, and response strategies

Ontologies for Competence-Based Management: A Bibliometric Analysis in the Industrial Sector

    No full text
Competence management plays a pivotal role in enhancing the competitiveness of organizations in today's fast-changing business environment. In particular, the use of ontologies for the structured management of competence data has proven to be strategic in various industries (such as, manufacturing, aviation and construction) and for different industrial processes (from supply chain management to product lifecycle management). However, despite their demonstrated utility, there remains a significant gap in the literature regarding the specific implications of employing ontologies for competence management in industrial contexts. Hence, the primary objective of this study is to investigate the implications of employing ontologies for competence management in industrial settings. By conducting a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis about this topic, we aim to shed light on the intricacies of utilizing ontologies in managing competence and identify key areas for future research. The conducted keyword co-occurrence analysis identifies six thematic clusters: "Knowledge Representation of Manufacturing Processes"; "Education for Software Engineering"; "Semantic Technologies for Decision Making"; "AI for Knowledge Management", "Ontologies for Human Resource Management (HRM)" and "Competence Management for Industrial Innovation". From an academic perspective, this paper provides an overview of the implication of ontologies in industrial competence management underscoring the importance of ontologies in structuring competence- related information, facilitating decision-making processes and promoting innovation within organizations. Moreover, the study reveals a growing trend of research in this area, with emerging trends reflecting the integration of ontologies with advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, which would enable organizations to rapidly adapt to changes in today's industrial environment. From a managerial perspective, instead, the study offers insights into best practices and challenges associated with the adoption of ontologies, guiding strategic decisions toward future trends and innovations in competence management

Presence of Celleporaria brunnea (Bryozoa: Lepraliellidae) in the Central Mediterranean: First occurrence in the Gulf of Taranto

We report the presence of the non-indigenous species (NIS) Celleporaria brunnea (Bryozoa, Ascophora) in the Central Mediterranean. It was found in the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea, southern Italy), which represents one of the most important hotspots for NIS in the Mediterranean. Using PVC plates as species collectors, immersed in different times of the year, we observed a recruitment of C. brunnea during the warmer period of the year from July to October. This work highlights a range expansion of C. brunnea and provides information about its autoecology traits in the host environmen

Fostering knowledge sharing in the innovation process: Information and communication technology-based versus face-to-face relationships

    No full text
The paper investigates information and communication technology (ICT)-based and face-to-face interactions for knowledge sharing during the activities characterizing the innovation process rather than strategic or operative ones. It also discussed the benefits of working remotely in companies or in a network of companies, also due to the pandemic situation such as the one we are experiencing today. The research design is based on the exploitation of a case study in the aerospace sector. Qualitative data are collected with interviews, and a content analysis is applied for extracting data useful for exploring different kind of relationships. Three significant results are described about the role of face-to-face interactions in knowledge sharing; the interaction through ICT tools for communication; and the different types of support provided by ICT tools. The paper extends the state of the art with new evidence in the field of knowledge sharing and conversion for sustaining the innovation process. The findings are original since new insights for the analysis of relationships are provided. Furthermore, the research methodology is described in detail and can introduce managers and scientists in content analysis applications also for industrial exploitation
