Longsworth, Lewis G. (1904-1981) was a researcher in physical chemistry at The Rockefeller University from 1928 until his retirement in 1970 with researches and publications on the electrochemistry of salt and protein solutions with applications in biology and medicine. His major interest has been in the determination of mobilities, first of small ions, then of macromolecules such as protein and finally of uncharged particles that do not respond to an electric field.

Lewis G. Clark photograph
Photograph of Lewis G. Clark (b. 1815), an Underground Railroad worker who was inspired the character of George Harris in Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Attached to the picture is some string made from flax that Mr. Clark raised and spun himself. The image was collected by Ohio State University professor Wilbur H. Siebert (1866-1961). Siebert began researching the Underground Railroad in the 1890s as a way to interest his students in history
